SPECIAL 2010 EVENT September 1 - October 20
To kick off Carthage’s commemoration of the Civil War Sesquicentennial, the Powers Museum will host the national traveling exhibit “Lee & Grant” Sept. 1 through Oct. 20. Lee and Grant provides a major reassessment of the lives and historical impact of Robert E. Lee and Ulysses S. Grant and encourages audiences to move beyond the traditional mythology of both men and rediscover them within the context of their own time. Lee and Grant presents photographs, prints, biographical and historical records to reveal each man in his historical and cultural context, allowing audiences to compare the ways each has been remembered for 150 years. A wide range of special activities are scheduled including
evenings with Lee and Grant themselves! Consult www.powersmuseum.com or call for a schedule brochure.
The Powers Museum was opened in 1988 through the generosity of lifelong Carthaginian Marian Powers Winchester (1905-1981). The museum features annual displays devoted to topics of Carthage history as well as other subjects such as the Civil War during 2010-2011. • Museum Shop with nostalgic gifts & books • Educational Programs • School Trunks on local/Missouri history • Reference Library & Archival Collection by appointment • Tourist Information for region & Route 66
