photography, film, video, painting, sculpture and mixed media, artists weave fantasy from the tangible and routine. The artworks included reveal pictured and spoken domestic circumstances as locations for escape.
CATALOGUING PATTERN — Guest curator: Kristen Letts Kovak. Participating artists: Salinda Deery, Aaron Henderson, Kristen Kest, Todd Keyser, Kristen Letts Kovak, Maria Mangano, Brooke Sturtevant-Sealover, Rebecca Zilinski. While patterns adorn our homes, our belongings and ourselves, they are more than ornamentation. Patterns appeal to our fundamental desire for predictability. They are not the antithesis of plainness, but rather an ordered response to the unknown. The exhibit explores visual, biological, cognitive and physical patterning. July 11–August 31

LUCKY AFTER DARK: Gay and Lesbian Nightlife in Pittsburgh, 1960–1990, by Harrison Apple — Pittsburgh Queer History Project’s first exhibition utilizes unpublished archival material and oral interviews to celebrate the social institutions created in a period of overt discrimination, challenging existing interpretations of and assumptions about the local LGBT culture.
