PROLOGUE ARCHITECTURE & CITY/ The selected works of architecture+city are and will be a work in progress. As a result they are all cross-pollinating across time scales each work influencing the other. The praxis scale ranges from the granular fabric of a furniture to the systemic developments of the urban. In doing so, the work itself is a diaspora of concepts, tools and logics.

Introduction

Forensic Urbanism/ Socio-economic and spatial tactics are built into the zone of former site of abandonment using the logics. An open fabric is maintained that connects with natural environment The aim is to reverse the extractive intentions of capitalist regimes, moving towards collective modes of production and mutual-aid networks.

SOCIO-SPATIAL-TEMPORAL STRATEGY / Spatial Interventions host activities of care and maintenance, production and consumption, privacy and gathering, where the temporary appropriation of both spaces, labor, and goods allow for self-sufficiency within the community. For example, if we follow a day in the life of an auto-shop worker, we see intimate interactions of living systems of dining, learning and care.

Collective Sustenance/ Automotive repair and fast food stops in conjunction with dense green areas become sites for collective caring. Pocket farm and local markets evolve additively. Using hydroponics they interesect with the existing fabric and expand vertically and horizontally. The socio-economic ethos evolves as residents begin to grow modules for self sustenace, create learning experiences with the process and begin to share food collectively through a mobile network of vendors.

FABRIC MODULATION: LOCAL Regional Strategy/ Modular Incremental Growth responds directly to the history of the sites. At a granular scale it begins with a grassroots collaboration with legacy residents, local small business owners and Community driven developers. Zooming out to the larger process of transformation, we begin tracing the actions taken to achieve collective sufficiency. The de-privatization of amenities enables alternative futures and a new imagined domesticity.

i

Rhino+ V-RAY+ Illustrator STRATEGY: Additive Modules

Following this system growth, the mutual aid network grows through the additions or building reprogramming, starting from the three identified moments, towards other neighborhoods; sharing maintenance and responsibility for care and shared spaces. In a world after property; cars and oil, an obsolete gas station and convenience store becomes ground for rethinking domesticity and mobility, together with a daycare and courtyards where ecology weaves in between buildings.

The river flows with the regional bike path that claims the right of way underneath transmission lines. Adjacent to the Waste Facility, that now hosts plastic recycling to provide new materials for cladding, while also using waste to energy systems, providing for the region.

The observation of our close environment and the links between human beings and our current environment suggest an emergent result, one of disconnection. In the mapping of systems we realise that regions are not fixed political boundaries but rather assemblages of ecosystems, interspecies entanglements, infrastructural imperatives, etc.climatic forces.

Introduction

Sponge Urbanism/ A sponge that absorbs large amount of industrial waste and city’s cso discharge; We use the phenomena of circular metabolism of a real sponge: absorb, filter, hold and release to design a continuous and endless circulation in a sustainable sponge, One that activates the land through a dynamic cultural and ecological response, and another that revitalises the an industry’s waste potential into another’s resource.

Creeping threat of urbanisation has caused physicalenvironmental and cultural degradation in the urban village of Worli Koliwada, in Mumbai. Furthermore Sea Level Change is a dominant threat to this coastal hamlet. Using morphological adaptations, street repurposing the proposal plans for a inclusive and sustainable retreat.

Role: Design Development to Execution Drawings Mumbai, India

Under Mumbai Commission for Art, Music and Culture (MCAMC), an initiative of MCGM, finding and creating of urban spaces is one of the key tasks. The Urban inserts are envisioned as a vibrant, dynamic, ‘Free for all people’s spaces’ for holding formal and informal activities for creating and updating local knowledge that is also more widely relevant in the country.

Professional Work: Design& Stakeholder Engagement

Activating Streetscape/ The design is undertaken: to ireinvigorate, encourage and catalyze art; To revitalize the public culture of the city, To Creating functional, livable, culturally dynamic and inclusive public spaces which demonstrate ‘local distinctiveness’. After a elaborate research and survey of over 110 local residents and 23 ward officers, the design was conceived within the span of 2 weeks and shortlisted winner for by the E- Ward and Heritage Committee, MCAMC, Mumbai.

MOBILITY OF STREET VENDORS/ South Asian system of vendors shed light on the democratic trajectory of food through the city. The wheeled structural and soci0o-cultural system allows free mobility of vendors across traditional urban and architectural territories. The permeability of device and user offers an opportunity to shift the food distribution narrative from capitalised resources to common public. It creates temporal food hubs and spaces.
