ELGIN News CORNERS

140th Street & 32nd Avenue South Surrey, BC www.ElginCorners.com

Going Local means Quality! Elgin Corners was designed by G3 Architecture with the idea that by producing quality architecture one would also attract a distinct type of retailer to the area as well. And here are just a few examples of that. Our first stop is at House Warmings, with a focus on distinctive furniture gifts and home decor. The first thing to notice when visiting is their Cobistyle collection of easy pieces of furniture featuring versatile ottomans, benches, and accent chairs including full-sized sofas and headboards. The store owners have also spent time to find unique gift ideas from local artists that you just wont find from other retailers. Be sure and check out the "Wine Rocks" wine rack as well. Next up is J.Antony & Sons Organic Food Store, based on the European idea that the only way to eat right is to purchase your food fresh everyday. The emphasis is on organic fruits and vegetables, fresh local breads and a spice selection not usually seen in this area. J. Antony & Sons – organic market http://antonyandsons.com/ - see website for details Also be sure and stop in at the Living Wellness Center where their goal is to identify the root cause of a person’s condition and to provide a course of care that is realistic and effective; but with a focus on warmth, compassion and respect in a comfortable and supportive environment. http://www.livingwellness.ca/ - see website for details We will be exploring more unique stores and upcoming events at Elgin Corners in upcoming editions. Until then be sure and stop in and see what local quality really means!

Landscaping Tips by Nathan Stewart

Order in The Fall & Save! Trying to book a landscape company in the summer is like trying to get tickets to a Canucks playoff game; not likely to happen unless you are willing to pay a premium for it. So, why not get some of the smaller jobs done in the fall. Pricing can be up to 25% lower than in the summer season. In addition, the best time to plant shrubs, trees and bulbs is in the fall or early spring.

What about The lawn? Just because you have put away your lawn furniture does not mean you should stop taking care of your grass. This is the time to improve the health of your lawn for next year's usage. Many people who have lawn problems do not realize how detrimental thatch build-up is to their grass. An advantage to raking those leaves is that you de-thatch your lawn at the same time. Removing broadleaf weeds to eliminate the competition for available nutrients and water is also crucial. There is a new service available by Terra Tea Solutions, specializing in improving the health of your lawn and trees naturally. Their pre-winter program of soil conditioning ensures that your lawn and plants are ready to thrive in the spring. -Nathan Stewart *N.Stewart (Owner of Wood Vine and Stone) is retained as our landscaping contributor see their ad in this publication

Your Local Golfer by Duncan Hadley

Some autumns and winters on the Semiahmoo peninsula are better than others. However, you can usually grab a few games even on the coldest months of the year. Following are some suggestions on how to improve your game in the cold: Use more club! The ball just doesn’t go as far Lower your expectations! Understand that the ball isn’t going to go as far or spin as much Play the ground game. When its cold outside, it’s likely the ground will be hard too, so use it to your advantage Keep your hands warm! With these short days, keep your game in tune at the executive par 3's and driving ranges. The par 3's offer fall deals for under $18, and most driving ranges are well heated allowing for year-round practice. Remember the old adage "Drive for show but putt for dough"
