Location: 2405 Robert Dedman Dr, Austin, TX 78712

Instructor: Dr. Rachel Lute

The Joe C. Thompson Conference Center in Texas was the first conference center to emphasize continuing education centers in the state, and its dedication in October 1970 marked its significance in providing a venue for education and discussion. This building is designed in modernism by architects from Dallas firm named Fischer and Spillman designed this complex and Mc Ghee Construction company from Austin began construction of the center in the late 1960s, and its establishment marked a significant step forward in providing accessible education and discussion opportunities to the community.

REBUILDING FROM RUBBLE KASTHAMANDAP

Type: Professional Work

Date: Dec’19-22

Location: Maru, Kathmandu

Team: Kasthamandap Rebuild Committee

Responsiility:Documentation of wooden elements under supervision of Ar. Anie Joshi

Status: Built

Kasthamandap is the valley’s oldest wooden pavilion, and it was destroyed in the 2015 earthquake. The project to rebuild Kasthamandap introduced the concept of taking a comprehensive approach to preserving the edifice’s tangible and intangible components. My work is primarily concerned with documenting and actually understanding the wooden elements of the entire wooden pavilion’s nail-less construction systems.  Briefly, three techniques were primarily used in the reconstruction of Kasthamandap, namely reusing salvaged materials, reproducing new identical to old, and reviving all

Kasthamandap’s speculative concept, as well as all cultural aspects

Kasthamandap is the keeper of a century-long history and tradition. It has served as a venue for various socio-temporal rituals and exists to serve as a time capsule hauling us back many centuries. Despite major disasters and pandemics, many Kasthamandap-related cultural rituals persisted. Various pujas were also incorporated as part of the construction rituals during the construction process.

RETHINKING RURAL OKHARBOT RESIDENCE

Type: Professional Work

Date: Dec’20

Location: Okharbot, Kavre

Team: Baha Spatial Agency

Responsiility:Prepare drawings and details of the residence

Status:Built

Okharbot residence is a house design in Okharbot, Kavre. The design concept was inspired by the local architecture of the surrounding area. In addition, the concept of sustainable design reinforces the overall design approach. The primary building materials used for the construction are rammed earth, terracotta tiles, and timber. The use of materials that echo vernacular architecture and prioritize renewable energy production has aided in the maintenance of a proper relationship between the economy, society, and the environment.

RETHINKING DESIGN CODESIGN MILAN

Type: Competition Work

Date: Dec’19

Location: CityLife,Milan

Team: Baha Spatial Agency

Responsiility:Research on cyclic design ideas inorder to solve the design issue

Codesign Milan is a project based on a competition that aims to create a common working environment for designers. A circular approach to sustainability was used in the building’s design to select materials that could either be reused or decay during their end life.

The idea of reversibility has been used in the design sense, and the existing historic idea of the overall Citylife has been highlighted The building has a small footprint on the ground to reduce the building’s afterlife impact on the natural environment.

REVITALIZING CHIMANG THESIS

Type: Thesis work

Date: Aug-’19

Location: Chimang,Mustang

Supervisor: Ar.Arjun Basnet

REVITALIZING CHIMANG

The concept of globalisation poses a greater threat to our country’s vernacular architecture. To achieve a balance between regionalism and modernism, a new critical thinking perspective that addresses current needs is required. Revitalizing Chimang is a similar project that envisions transforming a desolate village into a vibrant one. To accomplish this, the major idea is to identify the major threat or root problem and then work on it to resolve overall issues. A design approach in which old and new architectural components are properly discussed.

LAB PROJECTS CONSERVATION

Type: Architecture conservation: Lab Methods

Date: Fall 2022

Location: UT Conservation Lab

Supervisor: Izabella Nuckles

Architecctue conservation, Lab methods class focuses on the lab methods experimentation to determine thematerial properties used in the historic buildings using the different lab methods. The whole project is the compilation of the images of the end result and process of the lab methods .It also include an independent research work of

MORTAR ANALYSIS

This lab helped to analyze the historic mortar through lab procedures and determine the composition of the mortar through one of the wet processes named acid digestion.

TADELAKT

This is an experimental research on the waterproof rendering technique named Tadelakt. A different color work sample was created on site during the whole process.

HISTORIC FINISH ANALYSIS

HISTORIC FINISH ANALYSIS

Historic finish analysis helps to learn how to carefully collect the samples, prepare them for cross section and casting it to identify the earliest paint finish layer of the interior of the building for the restoration of the interior rooms by matching Munsell and commercial paint system.

WOOD IDENTIFICATION

This lab was done to identify the soft wood and hardwood by looking at the cross section of the wood using hand loupe.

Softwood white pine has a row of rays that are parallel to the rings. Between the configuration of rings and rays, there are a few tiny pores called as resin canals.

SOFT WOOD IDENTIFICATION AMONG THE FOUR SAMPLES SPRUCE

Hackberry is a hardwood with a diffused porous arrangement. Tylosis, which were silvery purplish in color, were found inside some of its pores.

TREATMENT OF A MASONRY WALL

The treatment process of the masonry wall at Frijole Ranch in Guadalupe National Park involved the use of a less abrasive paint removal technique. The surface was then prepared and the masonry was coated with 4-5 layers of limewash to protect it
