MEDIATHEQUE graduation thesis
TERM:
7.2014 - 8.2014
LOCATION:
Noida
AREA:
20000 sqm
SITE:
Located near Iskcon temple in Noida sector 35. The site of cultural centre is a hub for expositions throughout a calendar year.
DESIGN:
Heavy visitor traffic throughout the year due to expositions and Iskcon shaped the concept of the design. The building is placed in such a way that it acts as a gateway for a large audience who are coming to the expositions. The central corridor serves as a nave to the open site of exposition having a indoor art gallery at the left and the public library on the right. Central tower serves as a direct entrance to the public library at first floor whereas cafeteria and casual sitting is the part of ground floor

Jaipur is known for it’s iconic heritage. The two most important heritage structures being Amber palace on a hill top, and overlooking amber palace is Jaigargh fort on the hill of eagles. The prime purpose of Jaigargh has always been protection of the palace, connected to the same via multiple public and secret passageways. Making Jaigargh fort a complex structure to study and document.

Though a basic layout of plan and sections was available, but the challange here was much wider. The client wanted a physical model to be displayed in an event for industrial investors, which was to be held in Amer palace. We started off by collecting dimensions and photographs in order to prepare documentation drawings. A detailed 3D model was generated using BIM, which was finally printed in a SLS 3D printer. All this was done within 15 days. This project helped me improve skills in documentation via incorporating new technologies. The detailed 3D model in ArchiCAD took many efforts. Multiple small scale models were tried for physical model as well with laser cutting, CLIP and FDM 3D printers. Finally SLS provided the best balance between cost and level of detail.

pre print procedure
The fort was printed at a scale of 1:500, resulting in a 800mm x 350mm model size. due to limitation in printer size, the model was divided into 6 parts which were later joined to form the complete model.

2
This traditional timber house in kerala was nearly 200 years old which was dismantled and restored by the firm at a nearby site. As it got submerged into the earth because of loose foundation soil, it was uplifted using brick walls in order to get clear height. The idea was to retain as much as timber and traditional elements possible and convert it into a vacation retreat for the client.
