Basic Display Settings Choosing a Screen Resolution There is no right or wrong setting for the screen resolution. A high resolution makes you see more details on the display, but when a item is too small, you may not be able to see it clearly. As you move the slider from one resolution to another, you can see the general shape to the aspect ratio of the current selection.
You can check the manual that came with your monitor for it's aspect ratio. Or, just choose a resolution that looks good on your screen. Move the slider to a resolution and then click the Apply button. If you find a setting you like, you can click OK and be done with it. The Colors button allows you to choose a color depth for the monitor. The higher the color depth, the more colors your monitor shows. Click the button and choose the highest available setting. Typically it will be either 32-bit or 16-bit.

Using HDTV Formats Overview TV/HDTV Formats and Desktop Resolutions The number of the active lines displayed for an HDTV format determine the associated native desktop mode or resolution:
! NTSC 525 lines: resolution of 720 x 480 ! PAL 625 lines: resolution of 720 x 576 ! 480i/480p: resolution of 720x 480 ! 576i/p: resolution of 720 x 576 ! 720p: resolution of 1280 x 720 ! 1080i: resolution of 1920 x 1080
If the selected resolution are smaller than the selected native HDTV format, then black borders will be visible. But if the selected resolution are higher than the selected native HDTV format, panning the desktop is required.
As with first-time startup when HDTV is connected, the HDTV screen will have color distortion and may not fill the entire screen display area. This is due to the fact that when you first start your computer with a newly-installed driver, the default TV signal is set to NTSC.
Using HDTV in nView Single Display Mode Based on the connectors in use, all the associated HDTV formats will be available by opening the NVIDIA Control Panel (right-click on desktop), clicking on Display and then selecting Set up multiple displays. You can select the checkbox Only use one display (Single), then click Apply and OK to save the settings. Screen resolutions and HDTV formats can then be selected and set.
Using HDTV as the Primary/Secondary Display in nView Clone Mode Based on the connectors in use, all the associated HDTV formats will be available by opening the NVIDIA Control Panel (right-click on desktop), clicking on Display and then selecting Set up multiple displays. You can select the checkbox The same on both displays (Clone), then select the displays you would like to use and the display you want Windows to use as primary. Click Apply and OK to save the settings. Screen resolutions and HDTV formats can then be selected and set. The secondary resolution (analog or digital display) will start panning if the selected secondary resolution is less than the primary HDTV resolution. If the selected primary HDTV resolution is smaller than the secondary display, the resolution will be scaled up if the secondary display is an analog display or, if it is a digital display, the desktop can have a black border. The HDTV can work as a Primary or Secondary display.
