Oil Container Design Shortlisted as Best Design by Bharat Petroleum in March 2013 Packaging is of vital importance for any product, as it is the first point of contact between a consumer and the product, and customers evaluate a product on the basis of its packaging before making a purchase. This is no less true in the case of lubricants as with any other industry, like food or FMCG Project was aimed to design attractive and eye catching packaging to revitalize brand image of MAK Lubricants. concept was shortlisted as best design among 19 entries from all over India.

Inspiration Bharat Petroleum recognizes that one of the basic needs of the customers is pure quality and correct quantity of fuels. Bharat Petroleum is passionately committed to making this need a reality at its Retail Outlets. The ‘Pure for sure’ campaign would be developed as a brand to identify the selected outlets and prominent displays would be used to get cars to turn in. Form of container is inspired by logo of ‘Pure for Sure’ campaign which we can also relate with universal convention to represent Good things and Dyan Mudra (Symbol of knowledge) in Indian Yoga.

4 Litre

Reference Value

Brimful Volume : 4010 ml Filling Volume : 4000 ml HDPE Required : 159 gm

Current 1 litre container requires 60 gm HDPE in blow molding process. By considering this value as reference, all the designs are optimized to meet required parameters like HDPE Required and for Standardization of caps.

1 Litre Brimful Volume : 1010 ml Filling Volume : 1000 ml HDPE Required : 61 gm

Big Family

Small Family

Big Family of containers includes 3,4 and 5 Litre containers which are provided with handle to carry them

Small Family of containers includes 100 ml to 1 litre containers which do not have handle to carry them.

Packaging As containers are triangular shaped in top view, they can be arranged and packed in cartons by using side wedges made up of corrugated sheets so that it will never affect packaging cost of containers.

According to requirements of Bharat Petroleum, 9 Containers of capacity ranging from 100 ml to 5 litre were designed by considering functionality and cost effectiveness with consideration of manufacturing feasibility , packing , transportations and storage conditions. Duration of project was 4 months and it was carried out in Department of Design, IIT Guwahati .

Product to Hang Curtain on Window

Curtain hanger is a product designed as a class assignment in product detailing class. Objective of this assignment was designing, detailing, and manufacturing of a product to adjust tension on wire which is used to hang curtain on window.

1 Insert wire through slot and lock by screw provided Slot to insert Screwdriver

2 Basic mechanism is inspired from working of bottle cap. The displacement of cap is used to increase tension on wire.

Ride on Sweeper for Public places

2014 Runner Up

SweepeRide is a product for sweeping street and public places without use of fuel or electricity. It works completely on human power. SweepeRide has two units one is sweeper module and other is riding unit. In case of street sweeping and large areas like institute campus, railway stations, airports etc. we can attach sweeping module along with riding unit for riding over long distance while in case of short distances and the areas where cycle could not access , we can detach sweeping module from riding unit and use it separately.

Tiffin Box to Heat and Cook Food Tiffin box is the product which is used by most of the people in their daily life to carry food to workplace, on tour and for trekking. As they carry food from one place to another, it gets cold. Some of the products in the market have heating facility by the use of electricity but as we can’t get electricity everywhere, such products will become ineffective especially on tour and trekking use. So Trek Tiffin is a Tiffin box with detachable LPG operated micro burner which will heat inside food and we can detach it to use as a burner to cook food whenever required. Also Tiffin can be used as an open utensil, closed utensil and pan for cooking.

The Line Follower Bus Concept

ANT is a futuristic concept of public transport bus which uses non conventional energy sources like fuel cell to provide driving force and solar panel to fulfill electricity requirement for lighting. ANT is a concept of a bus which runs by using line following technology and smart sensors without any driver. Concept of ANT is inspired from line following behavior of ants.

Roof of ANT is at lower level so one can get feeling of car while sitting into it. Windows are divided in front, middle and back portions to increase outside view area for passengers. On top of roof there is one solar panel which will charge battery to fulfill electricity requirement of bus lighting.

Project was carried out to explore 3D modelling software and rendering with different materials.
