VEDIC GURUKULAM
Gurukul spaces are unique. Their irregular lines and unexpected shapes have become a stellar feature of the project. This particular architectural style has a profound meaning behind it, which is revealed in every one of its new buildings. “I use irregular shapes and asymmetric lines to create harmony in unconventional ways,I am influenced by the energy of the elements, i respect the natural shape of the terrain, and also inspired by local construction techniques. Most importantly, i try to create something new using different materials that can be easily recovered by the jungle, like Palm branches, grasses, bamboo.” The vedic gurukul is completely immersed in the jungle and required finding creative ways to work with concrete and manual labor to avoid destructive heavy machinery

GURUKULAM THE
Gurukulam is an Indian system for passing on significant information, lessons, and exriences to the next generation through man-to-man personal connections. Gurus presented themselves to the disciples in this manner, not as professional teachers, but as guardians. “Guru” is a master of a subject, a spiritual teacher, a guardian, or a leader to the road of Glory. “Kul” signifies dynasty. Gurukul, then, refers to a family or dynasty of gurus and pupils.

CONCEPT The structure harmoniously bends in with the environment, respects and honors the natural habitat that hosts it. With no straight lines or sharp angles, respectful of the organic shapes of the ground over which it was built, there is real purpose in its design: to force us to be present, paying attention and observing our every step. The use of concrete was specifically chosen to avoid the introduction of heavy machinery into the jungle, thus preventing the felling of thousands of trees. Moreover, the material gives the space a cozy feeling. The finish, carefully crafted with local materials, makes this a unique space of purely organic forms. Inside the building, there are living trees, some of which are inside the structure. Meticulously conceived with extraordinary and whimsical design, thorough attention to detail, this property redefines life in the jungle, promoting a non-invasive dialogue between architecture and its natural surroundings. Spacious and in touch with pristine nature The respect for nature is the principal ideal of the design proposal, nature has been here before mankind and will be after. The premise of preserving all the trees within the space gave us the opportunity to build around nature, respecting it and learning from it. The warmth and texture of the material bring the jungle as a physical part of the project, in different scale approaches, details, cover layer and structure that involves the inner space. Our purpose is to generate spaces of possibility that confirm the link between human creation and nature, taking up ancestral techniques and knowledge.

ROOF FUNNEL
Live trees emerge from holes in the polished concrete floor and shoot straight through tunnels that hang down from the ceiling. And when it rains, the holes in the roof funnel water directly to their roots.
ORGANIC SHAPE
The concrete follows the natural shape of the ground below and flows throughout the space becoming furniture which is not straight and loses weight as it moves between the void of the trees

THE YAGYASHALA
Vedic gurukula contains a divine Yagyashala consisting of nine sacrificial altars (nav kundi) in which Yagyas, a fire sacrifice ceremony, are conducted regularly. Performing a Yagya is one of the oldest rites in the Hindu culture. A Yagya is carried out to purify our mind and actions and seek blessings from God. This is done by chanting mantras and making offerings to God through the holy fire.
