ZYDUS SCHOOL FOR EXCELLENCE

Description: Institutional Project at Godhavi. Role: Project Architect Institution: Snehal Shah Architect, Ahmedabad. Year: 2018 A 100 Crore INR project for a pharmaceutical and oriented research institute was designed in Ahmedabad with a built-up area16,000sqmt accommodating 200 occupants. This concrete structure stood as a landmark with a best in class combined passive and mechanical HVAC system to optimise energy usage. The bastion shaped walls inspired by the historical Nalanda university was adopted to maximise physical interaction. The structure was completely dry claded with vernacular stone to achieve passive cooling. The internal connectivity and the spaces were developed over multiple iterations to enhance the functionality and productivity within the spaces. The project was successfully approved and is under its first phase of construction.

BRYOPOLIS-

A Post Natural City.

Description: Bryotructura the urban breadther. Mentor: Prof. Dr Claudia Pasquero and Filippo Nassetti. Location: East London Institution: Bartlett School of Architecture, RC16 Year: 2019-2020 Bryopolis is a speculative ‘Post-Natural’ project of RC16, that projects a novel urban model of the current-day city of London, which gets created through a combined intelligence of humans and non-humans’ species. The project profoundly researches on a non-human species “moss” and through technological intervention, eventually establishes a distributed cognition between human and non-humans. The bridge in the intelligence is applied in a participatory space making process, i.e. a post-natural urban space created with the combined intelligence of moss, human and AI. The project Bryopolis researches on the causes and impact of global climate change in the city of London and the government initiative to mitigate it. Although with these measures, with the current trends in development, the project forecasts dystopian urbanism in the next 50 years characterised by extensive draught. The project proposes a speculative urban design, that surpasses the conventional planning and policies, to create an urban space via transdisciplinary research in biology, technology, architecture, and urban design. The project uses computational tools and machine learning algorithms to analyse abundant data and advance technologies in the use of sensors to create a sensible space that is novel yet tangible in various scales of working.

Urban Data Visualisation and Data Analysis.

Description: Urban Mapping Mentor: Prof. Dr Claudia Pasquero and Filippo Nassetti. Location: East London Institution: Bartlett School of Architecture, RC16 Year: 2019-2020 London Energy and Greenhouse Gas Inventory’s (LEGGI) data on the carbon emission, oxides of nitrogen, PM 2.5 and PM 10 are digitally visualised. The following illustrations are maps of Carbon emission, Oxides of Nitrogen emission, PM 2.5 particulate matters in atmosphere, trees in 7 boroughs of East London, phase wise analysis of bryostructura distribution and optimal distribution pattern of the new urban breather modules.

MACHINE LEARNING URBANISM

Description: CycleGAN Exploration. Mentor: Michael Brewster. Institution: Bartlett School of Architecture. Year: 2019-2020 CycleGAN the tool used in creating fake images of cities through an association between images of actual satellite map and images from eroded morphologies. The machine is trained through permutation and combination to compare the pixel values between these set of inputs. After training, when tested with new sets of inputs, a xeno-city retaining a few prominent characteristics of the initial image yet a completely unseen world of images gets produced.

SLUM REHABILITATION AT CHENNAI, GANDHI NAGAR.

Description: Undergraduate Thesis Mentor: Architect Srinivasan, Architect Dimple Mittal. Institution: Adhiyamaan College of Engineering. Year: 2017 A design focusing on the people of the densely populated informal settlement in Chennai’s typical slum that which lacks many basic amenities such as sanitation, drinking water, electricity, law enforcement. In-situ slum rehabilitation was proposed with PPP to achieve an incremental and economic dwelling. Concepts from Charles Correa’s Bellapur, Doshi’s Aranya project and Prasanna Desai’s Yerwada slum projects were revised and adapted to meet the site context. GIS and MIS data from the TNSCB become the base for analysis and design. Case study on Karnataka government’s successful slum clearance project helped in devising an abstract DPR matching the market rates of building materials. The design proposal not only provides infrastructural development but also provides solution to boost a passive economy in the entire slum.

RAILWAY STATION AT KRISHNAGIRI

Description: Urban design studio Mentor: Architect Srinivasan. Institution: Adhiyamaan College of Engineering. Year: 2017 An urban insert in an developing district Krishnagiri, that would uplift the economy of the state government and at the same time provide numerous employment opportunity. This new link of railway line was proposed such that it connects Jolarpet junction with Hosur and Rayakoota station enhancing the export and import in these industrial belts. Also to the advantage of the city it neglects the need of 8 way roads that is being proposed with regards to the increased truck traffics and many accidents on these roads.

FIBEROUS MORPHOLOGY

Description: Shortest walk algorithm exploration. Mentor: Filippo Nassetti. Institution: Bartlett School of Architecture. Year: 2019-2020 The complex coir like fibre that delineates many naturally occurring forms are generated using Grass-hopper and Rhino. The computational grid dictates and controls the path of form formation. Voronoi grid and Octa grids were the computational grids on to which the Shortest walk algorithm was analysed. A catalogue of outputs with successive value change in the parameters are showcased.

ERODED MORPHOLOGY

Description: Heightfields exploration. Mentor: Filippo Nassetti. Institution: Bartlett School of Architecture. Year: 2019-2020 A Post-Natural manifestation of naturally formed terrains using Houdini heightfield simulations controlled with parameters such as precipitation, thermal erosion, hydro erosion, derby level etc. Experimentations showcased in the catalogues are visualisation of man-made urban interventions (such as buildings, roads network etc), natural landforms (green cover, waterbodies etc.) and Carbon emission data in the form of heightfields.
