MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS HOUSTON DEGAS: A NEW VISION Through Jan. 16, 2017 Caroline Wiess Law Bldg 1001 Bissonnet Degas: A New Vision oers the most significant international survey in nearly 30
years of the work of Hilaire-Germain-Edgar Degas (1834–1917). The reputation of this celebrated French artist has often focused on his ballet imagery, and yet Degas’s rich, complex, and abundant oeuvre spans the entire second half of the 19th century and the first years of the 20th. The MFAH is the only U.S. venue for this exhibition, which assembles some 200 works from public and private collections around the
world. Degas: A New Vision showcases the continuity of the artist’s abiding interests across painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, and sculpture from the beginning to the end of his career. Not since the landmark international retrospective Degas in 1988 has the artist’s career been fully assessed. That exhibition led to a revival of interest in Degas, with dozens of shows focusing on individual subjects of
his work—the bathers, the dancers, the jockeys, the portraits—or his influence on other artists. Degas: A New Vision benefits from
that scholarship, puts Degas back together again, and oers an opportunity to see the artist anew.

Jack Doyle, aka “The Gorgeous Gael”, was a young man who left Ireland and became a household name as a heavyweight boxing contender, an actor, and a beautiful tenor on both sides of the Atlantic. In honour of his name, Peter Kingston & David Roche (also from Co Cork in Ireland), came together to bring a new concept of an Irish bar to America – a sharper, edgier, brighter design with a strong emphasis on exceptional food, exquisite cocktails, a strong Whiskey oering and a fantastic array of domestic and crafted beers. The Gorgeous Gael represents everything that is truly great about modern Irish entertainment culture – premium customer service, exceptionally creative, top quality food, adventurous, sophisticated drinks and the best musical entertainment in the world. One thing that has not changed is the Irish spirit of hospitality, and the friendship and camaraderie that is unique to the Irish pub environment.

THE KING’S HEAD PUB
Richmond Arms is a lively, oldfashioned pub, complete with seasonal brews, too many beers on tap to count and a bevy of Celtic accents ringing throughout the establishment. Even during the week, an evening here feels like an Irish beer advertisement, “Lots of British nationals” feel at home in this “authentic” Briargrove area pub that some claim is the closest thing to England “this side of the big pond”; “wood beams and red accents” and a “friendly sta” greet “serious game fans”, who come for the “great beer selection” and pub grub, plus darts and regular trivia nights.
The King’s Head Pub hails back to royal Britannia with a classic wood features, a large stone fireplace, a portrait of King Henry VIII. The pub features a full outdoor patio area, and over 5000 square feet of seating area with plenty of parking space. Serving authentic English food including Scotch eggs, Sausage rolls, and Ploughman’s Platters as well as great pizzas and other pub grub. Beers on draft (pardon, draught) include a mix of locals like Saint Arnolds, Bualo Bayou and Karbach alongside imported faves like Smithwick’s, Boddingtons, Harp and Newcastle. Happy Hour Mon-Fri 4 - 7.
La Bare is an adult-oriented ladies club featuring nearly nude male dancers five nights a week. With the dim lights and loud music of a nightclub and two replicas of Michelangelo’s David looking down coolly as groups of women saunter up to the stage to tip their favorite performers, the place somehow resembles the warm and welcoming atmosphere of Cheers. La Bare’s Happy Hour? Wednesday and Thursday 6-9pm with no cover for women 21+ and $2 U Call Its, even Patron, during that time. The grill serves food from 6pm to 2am.
