Due to the town home problem, there is no garden to comfort the living space. The concept is to creating green space which can be shared with every floor. By learning the variety of the void and connecting floor, to find the best solution which resulted in best shared garden. The chosen type are ‘Type B‘ and ‘Type G’. ‘Type B‘ made the stair which use to be dark and solid, breathable. ‘Type G‘ created the front to be more useful and friendly. With this 2 type, we can create much better connecting space.

The site is located on charansanitwong 60 alley. Next to the site is a single house and townhome. This created condition that the project can not has any void opento the side.

8

The 1st floor is for public use as presented in the plan. Workshop and office are usually use by outsiders. The inner court and kitchen can be served for both workshop and office users when they are taking a break. The 2nd floor is a family area. With the open void, the air can flow easily through this zone. On the 3rd floor, there are rooms for children. Also the small living space for them to hanging around.

CO-WORKING

Condominium 11

Condominium for new generation artist. Co-working space is included to support user. Site is located in the center of the city so co-working space is not only use by resident but also the outsider.

12

Site is on the sukhumvit 54 alley, surrounded by 3 stories town home. Due to the project’s co-working space, it also has non-resident user. This make a resident feel less private. So the intention is to increase more privacy to the resident. Concept is illusion, to emphasize the intention of increasing privacy. the facade of the residential area are using reflective glass to redirected the line of sight to the sky. Also the co-working space use the same but reflected the tree around them.

“The art is not only presents in the studio, but lingering in the air“

18

Site is on Kamphaeng-Phet road, surrounded by art market. MRT station next to the site is supporting the transportation but still, heavy traffic polluted this area. Due to the pollution, shield them out for a better atmosphere. Art space should be peaceful to the users. So the mass of the building act like a wall to protect the inner area.

19

All the function are blocking off the pollution around the site. Both exhibition and residential area have been push up to the 2nd floor to keep the privacy. The approching for this project are retail and art market to attracting people from JJ Market. Supporting function such as registration and archive are easy to service because there are service way from the adjacent road.

“Slice and slide is selected tool for the design. The splited mass of the architecture creating a small section of space To give the sense of connection to the users. Also, emphasize on the concept of protective space.

Architectural Thesis 29

Nowaday, urban city are becominig denser everyday due to a increasing population. Road were built to serve more use of car creating disconnected parts of city. The above ground territory are used to connect the city. Comes to the fact, Bangkok is one of the city with most pedestrain bridge in the world. There are also skytrain that occupy this territory. But Above ground territory is not controlled by the official law of Thailand. This had make architecture on this territory are not properly design. This thesis is focused on the architecture in the above ground territory. To built on this area, what is to be considered with the design of the architecture and how will it have effect the context that surrounding the architecture of this type.

30

Existing

With the focused on making architecture on this territory more friendly for the city, first is to review on the existing architecture. Found out that on this area, architecture mostly used for connection and circulation. the function other than that are just kiosk and supportive function. For more intense considering on the impact of the architecture on context, the

Testing

testing programs are chose by contrasting with the existing one. Comes to the programme of 3 groups. First the “Volume and Size”, second the “Complex Circulation” and lastly the “Privacy“. Comes to the conclusion, the programs which have been chosen to test the architecture are meditation center, cinema, art museum, co-working space and library.

Sense

Contextual Impact Structural supports have a huge impact on footpath and road. They should be at the minimum numbers and size. Sunlight determined by the openspace. Pedestrain way should has enough light during daytime. Human sense needs to be considered since volume, visual and privacy are disturbed by the layer.

Location The location needs to be fit with all the variation of testing program. Ha yaek Ladphrao which has a diverse landuse, school, shopping mall, park and residential, is considered to be fit the testing group. Also it has it’s own problems that support the existance of the thesis. The road is uncrossable and the park is disconnected from the community.

Ha yaek Ladphrao can be considered into 4 type of area which has it’s own personality.

32

33

Negotiation process has played a significant part in daily urban life. In order to co-exist only with the public space but above, architecture need to negotiate with them. This is the key idea for designing the architectures.

34

Meditation Center Contextual

The noise from the skytrain is the main problem of the resident area. For them are lifted to create privacy and peaceful living space. The shape is subtracted by the rail and the wall are noise insulated to decrease the pollution. The park area view blocked by the layer. In return, the layer reconnecting and extended the park to the community The layer is elevated above the park’s side road to ensure the building and walkway get enough sunlight.

35

Layer 1 Negotiation

Layer 2

Layer 3

Urban’s role is to reconnect and extend the park to the community. Giving the relaxing green space to the residential area on the opposite side and by the size of it, creating the feeling of walking in the park. Circulations on the layers are designed to flow with ease and varieties. Meditation center’s library and plaza used as a semi-public area. Incase of privateuse for holding an event, the pedestrain can still flow through and observe the event as they’re passing through

36

37

Cinema’s main problem is enclosure. Normally, it’s solid. But when comes to negotiation, it need to be adapted. Cinema can be fully open when not in use. Amphitheater has its own role, to be a plaza connected to the extended park. It can be use by varied users, Mediitation center, Cinema, Museum, for holding an event. Cinema and amphitheater can be fully open to be a public space and circulated through. When it’s occupied, the altered walkway are provided.

38

Art Museum Contextual The exhibition room is sitting on the skytrain. Within 4m from the rail are disturbed by the noise. The form of it is subtracted by the noise of the railway. The museum itself need a huge space for exhibiting art. Void is provided to make sure light can go down.

Negotiation

The main idea of negotiation is shifting plane. When the art museum let the third party rent exhibition room, it can be shifted to change the circulation. This mechanic allow the museum to control the privacy of the event that’s holding. The loading dock is separated from the museum because of the freight car’s reason

Contextual

Since the connection between skytrain and Central Ladphrao has been made, the plaza in the front left unuse. The leftover space between Central Ladphrao and skytrain is narrow The solution is the co-working is narrowed along the surrounding, to let sunlight go down to the ground. Ground level designed to be a garden. Encouraging people to stroll along and also be a relaxingn zone for cafe and co-working aobve.

Negotiation

Co-working is a private function because of the paid area use. So the cafe and garden become a shared facility for co-working and public space. With the narrowed space, the structures are decrease touching point with the ground by cantilever truss.

Library Contextual

Like the museum, the form of the floating library is subtracted. Surrounding context is opened wide because of the school and condominium. Sunlight is more than enough on the surface. In the other hand, privacy of the context need to be considered. The school garden is visible to the layer. But the privacy is still there. The proximity is avoided by the layer. The social bubble is not touching to made the privacy sense more vivid.

Urban’s Role

Negotiation The negotiation Idea is to use the commons ground with the public. In this case are the reading area, shifted out to the public making this part of the layer become a recreational space. Encourage reading and interacting between people
