Institute & Healthcare

Shri Ramachandra Institute of Medical Studies and Super Speciality Hospital Concept masterplan + architecture Location: Aurangabad, Maharashtra, India Site Area: 35 acres

A r ch itec t ure Portfo lio

Masterplan based on the journey of Lord Ram influences the built organisation and open spaces created within the campus. Campus houses a super speciality hospital along with a medical institute with housing units for the students and faculty. The hospital and medical institute was planned with the in-house team of medical planners and industry leaders globally. My contribution was involved in understanding the medical planning to integrate with the architecture and masterplan concept, and coordination with various consultants.

K-12 Education

Sancta Maria International School Full scope - Masterplan + Architecture Location: Hyderabad, India Site area: 15 acres CONTEXT

The site is a part of GMR’s EduPort development zone - multiple land parcels leased out for development of educational facilities. The site is in close proximity to the Hyderabad Airport (Rajiv Gandhi International Airport) and proposed development is heavily dictated by the height restrictions provided by AAI- Airport Authority of India. The project was designed under mentorship of New York studio principals (k-12 industry leaders). My contribution in the project included designing, coordination, attending client workshops and consultant workshops. I was part of the team from programming stage to GFC stage.

Site plan strategies Street presence: Buildings on the north face of the site are placed for a strong street presence of the campus. The admin building is a comparatively smaller in height with a ground floor thoroughfare creating a gateway to enter the campus. Heart of the campus: Central plaza becomes the central gathering place for the campus which leads a way to all the academic, commons and admin programs. Pedestrian friendly: The campus is planned to be pedestrian friendly by strategising bus drop offs and vehicular parkings at the periphery of the plot.

Enclosure Full scope Architecture + Interiors Location: Gujrat, India Site area: 23,000 Sq.Ft The project refers to the long discussion of beauty in imperfect forms, textures, and crafting spaces. This structure sits between the industrial and farmland of the village called Ranasan, Himmatnagar in Gujarat. The structure is enveloped by retaining walls with entrances scooped or sliced out. The shape of walls, volumes cantilevered and forms flowing pursuits drama. One approaches the building with the first layer of grass mounds and unwinds spaces with stories as one enters. The structure can be told crafted and not assembled due to the methods it’s created. The building landscape builds a dialogue with the structure with changing seasons.

Residential

Enclosure Full scope Interiors + Product/Furniture design Location: Gujarat, India Site area: 4,000 Sq.ft This project focuses on the sensorial qualities in a space. A gradual building of elements, objects, and functional sculptures of various scales; parts, eventually coming together to create the “whole”. The poetics of the space enables the user to identify the volume, which will eventually be “home”. The shape of the knobs, the mechanism of the curved door, the gentle and imperfect curves of the staircase, the textures on the textiles, are elements that the user can eventually identify as his ownership of the overall space. These visual and tactile stimuli create a bond between the objects, the volume, and the user. It was an experiment to understand how the anatomy of a shape can affect the complete volume in terms of an interior-architectural space.

Mixed use - Co-working

Architecture ascending Academic - Design Dissertation Location: Mumbai, India Site area: 35,000 Sq.ft Abstract Ascending is the constant growing nature of the structure which caters to the needs of users and reacts according to its limits. Cities are always in transition and in the act of reacting to actions of users which are seen on/by buildings, for becoming a better place to live, function, and celebrate. Every structure in the city is constantly negotiating with its users and program to function to its fullest until it gets obsolete. No city has reached an end and has stopped developing, it is the cycle of development and constant transition which can be rapid or slow according to its lifestyle. Every structure is developed, functioned, remodelled and if is planned with an expiry date, then shall get obsolete without leaving traces as ruins. According to the culture and lifestyle, the city performs its routine programs and events. These programs come within a different time frame and are activated at their own time.

Proposal The research concludes with a proposal of experimenting scenario planning categorised by construction and programs of the site as long- and short-term scenarios, where different scenarios according to the occupation, lifestyle, and existing activities can be created. To experiment scenario planning and considering the nature of the place, social infrastructure as a building typology is selected. The structure is a kit of parts that can be assembled whenever programs demand future expansion. The site selected for the proposal is Versova, Mumbai. The site sits on the threshold of Koliwada and the new development of the Versova, where currently it is an open plot used by both kinds of users for different programs. Link for project video: https://youtu.be/X6UuScGiSyU

Designer’s hub Academic - Architecture design Location: Mumbai, India Site area:

This proposal of the designer’s hub integrates programs of production and co-working in one campus. The co-working is divided into 3 categories according to the size of the workspace which can be leased. Along with co-working and production as primary programs, exhibition space, seminar hall and library becomes ancillary programs of the structure. The design was inspired by the forms and space-making elements of Aldo Rossi, Alvaro Siza, and Luis Barragan.
