Welcome to the digital issue,

Spring 2020 of I Do Y’all Magazine. What an unusual time we are finding ourselves in this season! Most of us are living in states that are moving into Phase 1 or 2 of the re-opening which hopefully means that we will all be able to get back to hosting those amazing weddings and events with all of our family and friends. Even if you’re moving ahead with your wedding this summer or fall with a reduced guest list, we know that you will still want to incorporate all those special details to make your day uniquely yours. We’ve seen some really creative couples during this time with those choosing to host micro or virtual weddings making sure to do so thoughtfully with as many personal details as possible. For all the couples who have had to postpone their weddings, we know you are disappointed, and we feel for you. So many of you have shown such grace, using this extra time to add special details to your events. We know that our newly engaged couples are so eager to get started meeting vendors face-to-face

and locking down those plans. Brides want their bridal gown moment, and you all certainly deserve to have it! This special, digital issue of I Do Y’all Magazine is brimming with ideas to help you with your planning. From amazing styled shoots and real wedidngs, our wedding pros have created some incredible designs and steal-worthy ideas. If you see something you like, make sure to click on the vendor link. Our southern wedding pros are some of the best in the business. They have spent this time away being creative, getting new ideas, and are ready to get back to taking care of their special couples. Make sure to share your weddings with us as soon as you get your photos. Look for submission details near the back of the issue. We may choose your event to feature in one of our upcoming issues of I Do Y’all Magazine. We can’t wait to see what you create for your big day! Happy planning!

We hope you find some inspiration in our pages, and that you enjoy every minute of your engagement and wedding day! COMING JULY 2020 The Summer edition of I Do Y’all Magazine

( L) IMMEDIATELY

Save-the-dates give your guests a friendly heads-up. They are not always necessary, but are never a bad idea. Your guests may decide to turn your destination wedding into a getaway trip, so those savethe-dates can be sent up to a year in advance.

There is such a thing as too early! Send invitations so that your guests’ maximum anticipation lines up with your big day. Invitations for destination weddings should be sent far enough in advance for your guests to make their travel plans.

Your RSVP Deadline will depend on how much lead time your wedding professionals need. The first one to consider is your caterer’s meal count. Check with each vendor to determine when they need a final number, and set the RSVP return date for a week before that.

Believe it or not, you’ll start receiving gifts even before you walk down the aisle. Send their thank you cards immediately to minimize your workload after the wedding. Once you’re back from your honeymoon, kick it into high gear to get them out no later than six weeks after the wedding.

Destination weddings timeline is on the top (D), and local weddings are on the bottom (L)

Sharing the Cost Willingness and ability should always be taken into account when negotiating who pays for each expense. Use these traditional guidelines for some basic guidance, but don’t be afraid to break the “rules!” Everyone should be comfortable with their share and nothing is ever set in stone.

#WhatsThePoint

ALL THINGS

#hashtags

Photographers can’t capture everything! Your guests will be taking photos throughout your big day and hashtags are a way for you to see them all in one place. Encourage your guests to share hashtagged photos across social media platforms and turn your wedding guests into your personal paparazzi.

#WorthIt Hashtags are for more than just your big day! Use your hashtag for all engagement and wedding related memories. Relive every special moment in one place with your wedding hashtag. Go through snapshots the second your heels come off, or when you are sunning with your sweetie on your honeymoon. Guests can relive their favorite moments after your big day or see what they missed out on if they weren’t able to attend.

#SpreadTheWord (or hashtag) How do you let everyone know what hashtag to use? Announce your hashtag on social media or wedding website and ask your guests to use it. Letterboards or signs are trendy ways to convey information and can be placed in key spots around your festivities to share the world like near the guestbook, your program, and your welcome sign. Don’t forget your #selfiestation or photobooth!

#Wingman Need help making your hashtag? Use an online generator or sit down for a hash it out with your honey for #datenight. Not feeling a hashtag with your last names? Use your venue or location to create your hashtag.

This real wedding couple’s last names were Polk & Nodhturft. Have fun with your hashtag and don’t be scared to show your personality as a couple!

DATE NIGHTS

(that won’t break the wedding budget)

Volunteer Together Visit a local shelter or charity and serve someone. Not only are you having fun with your fiancé, it’s a great way to give back to your community.

Explore a Local Park Sometimes the best adventures are right outside your door!

Have a Game Night Ask your friends over and play some good, old fashioned board games. You don’t realize how competitive your friends are until Monopoly comes into the picture!

DIY Day You know all those pins you’ve saved on Pinterest and never tried? Now is the time to get crafty! You can probably find most of the items around your house. P.S. Check out our blog, idoyall.com, for a fun paper marbling DIY! It’s ohso-satisfying.

Check out Open Houses Near You Who doesn’t want to be Joanna Gaines? Why yes, we’ll take the $1,000 house without walls. We can shiplap that. ( JK, please don’t do that-just get an idea of what each of you would like one day.)

Watch the Worst Movies on Netflix Ask your friends for ideas. Sometimes all you need is a good laugh with the person you love to have a great night. Don’t forget the popcorn.

Grab a Disposable Camera Walk around your city and take pictures of each other with this oldie but goodie. After you’ve used all 28 of your pics, get them devoloped at a local drugstore. The cloud may fail you, but prints last (almost) forever.

Exercise Encouraging each other to be healthy can be a fun way to stay in shape. 40

5 THINGS TO NOT SAY DURING WEDDING PLANNING

“WHATEVER YOU DECIDE IS GOOD FOR ME!” “IT COST WHAT?!” “CAN WE PLAN THIS ANOTHER DAY? I WANT TO RELAX.” “I MUST HAVE FORGOTTEN TO MENTION THIS UNTIL NOW...” “I DON’T WANT TO HELP WITH THIS. IT ISN’T REALLY IMPORTANT TO ME.”

TIPS FOR CREATING YOUR OWN

wedding website 1 . F R E E I S TH E B E ST You can create a personalized site online for free. Search for sites that offer free website services.

2 . M A K E IT N E E D -TO K N OW + A LIT TLE E X TR A There are two reasons to make a wedding website. One is to give guests need-to-know info that may not be included on the invite. The second reason is to add more information that guests will want to know, like suggested attire.

3 . DON’T HOLD BACK WHEN DISPLAYING REGISTRY DETAILS You can add links directly to your registries.

4 . ADD PERSONAL DETAILS Let visitors to your site get to know you better by giving them a little bit of background on yourself and your soon-to-be spouse. Tell the story of how you met and include pictures of the proposal.

5 . FAR AWAY FRIENDS & FAM WILL THANK YOU Post logistical details for guests making travel plans.

6 . DO N ’ T FO R G E T TO P R OO F R E A D Double-check that all the addresses and other facts are correct. You don’t want your guests to get lost or confused.

foods like potato bars with a variety of toppings are popular as are junk food bars laden with sliders, mini hot dogs and tacos. Even the sweet and dessert bars have transitioned from traditional cakes, cookies and tarts to tables laden with several varieties of gourmet popcorn with add ins, s’mores stations, make your own cotton candy and milkshake bars. There is no limit to the kind of food bars that can be

take your wedding spirits to the next level You’ve hired professional photographers, caterers, musicians, and videographers to make your wedding day an unforgettable one. Don’t overlook everyone’s favorite pro: the bartender! Not only can you count on knowledgeable, speedy drink service for your guests, but a professional bartender will handle the nitty gritty, like the bar’s inventory and shopping list. You won’t have to trouble yourself with glassware, ice, mixers, or garnishes — just sit back, relax, and enjoy your professionally-poured cocktail. But it’s more than meticulous drink mixing: Like other wedding pros, bartenders are artists. Drinks are garnished just-so, and they’re able to craft cocktails based on individual guest’s preferences. You can also work with your bartender to create one or more signature drinks for your wedding. Before hiring a professional bartender for your wedding, do your research. First, inquire with your venue and caterer. Some have restrictions on who’s allowed to serve alcohol on site. Others require that the venue or caterer provide the alcohol, as opposed to purchasing it off site. How many bartenders do you need? Check your guest count. A general rule is 75 people per bartender. When budgeting, figure two to three drinks per person during cocktail hour and one drink per person, per hour, for the rest of the night. To determine whether or not a professional bartender is the right fit for your wedding, meet with a professional near you!

THE

Wedding Reception Planning and Preparation

BEFORE YOU BOOK

As you’re searching for wedding locations, ask vendors about catering policies, alcohol policies, bad weather contingency plans, staffing availability, parking, decorating, deposits, refunds and insurance. Book your wedding and reception site as soon as you set a date. To find your perfect site, call around. Ask for a description and a list of services: caterers, waiters, bartenders, and parking valets. Make an appointment to tour promising prospects. Hotels, restaurants, private clubs and halls normally offer catering services and may not allow you to use your own caterer. Make sure there is enough room for your guests and electric voltage for your entertainment, lighting and any decorative needs. Churches and temples may have policies regarding alcohol and other restrictions. For a garden wedding be sure you have enough room indoors in case of bad weather. If you’re going to decorate, ask for a list of restrictions.

AT THE PARTY You may want to ask several relatives or close friends to act as hosts, greeting your guests, assisting with seating and maximizing the mingling. Designate a table for the wedding party and another table for both of the families. The bridal couple may have their own Sweetheart Table or may choose to sit in the center of the table, maid of honor to the groom’s left, and best man to the bride’s right. Alternate men and women as space allows. Just before the meal is served to the wedding party, it is traditional for the best man to propose a toast. All rise, except the bride and groom. After the toast, the groom may reply. Any other toasts are then appropriate. Serve the meal or send people to the buffet in this order: bride, groom, maid of honor, best man, attendants, parents and then guests. Your first dance as husband and wife should feature your special song, usually something romantic. The floor should be empty of other guests. Then come the dances for the bride and her father, the groom and his mother, the bride and the groom’s father, the groom and the bride’s mother. Lastly, the wedding party joins in, then the guests. Traditionally, the bouquet and garter toss take place near the end. To keep your original bouquet, have the florist create a special arrangement to be thrown. If possible, invite all your guests to both the ceremony and the reception.

RECEPTION

games Wedding reception games are a great

way to keep your guests entertained while you are being photographed before the reception or as they wait for food!

couple mad libs Create a Mad Libs-style template for your guests to fill out at their tables for marriage and love advice. This is a wedding game guests can do alone, or the whole table can get in on the fun, sharing their tips on how to keep the romance alive, fun ideas for “married dates,” and other words of wisdom.

bride and groom trivia Create a list of trivia questions for each guest to fill out at the table. Have a member of the wedding party collect and read the cards to determine the winner. The guest with the most correct answers wins!

i spy Another fun way to get everyone involved is to place a disposable camera on each guest table with a list of special moments to capture. Each group of family and friends will have a different shot from their perspective. Some examples could be the first dance, “cheers,” table selfie, or just let them choose! You won’t know what you’ll end up with until you take the cameras to be developed!

Unplugged Weddings The what and why of going unplugged

BE FULLY PRESENT In the midst of all this online connectedness, we’re viewing the world through our phone screens and camera lenses and missing out on true human connections. But people are beginning to wake up and realize just how immersed we all are in our phones and tablets, and there’s a movement to change that. This movement has reached the wedding industry. Brides and grooms want to have face-to-face connections with their guests — especially during the ceremony — instead of staring out into a sea of electronics. If guests are experiencing your big day from behind a screen, are they truly experiencing it? Your wedding is comprised of some of the most important moments of your life; making it unplugged encourages guests to live in the moment with you. Simply put: It encourages your loved ones to be here now. SOCIAL MEDIA SPOILERS Imagine: You haven’t seen the groom all day. You can’t wait for that “first look.” While you’re getting ready, the Maid of Honor snaps a photo of you in your dress and veil. She has a few minutes of down time, so she posts the photo on Instagram. The groom, also with a few minutes to spare and out of habit, checks for Instagram updates and the first look is spoiled. A first

look via social media isn’t exactly the stuff of dreams! Brides and grooms are avoiding such spoilers altogether by declaring their wedding “unplugged.” LEAVE IT TO THE PROFESSIONALS There are few things that annoy a professional photographer more than an amateur trying to do their job. Overly zealous uncles who jump in the aisle and cousins who stand on church pews can, at best, be an eyesore in your professional photos and can, at worst, completely ruin once-in-a-lifetime moments. Imagine your “kiss the bride” moment blocked by an uncle who stepped into the aisle to snap a photo. The professional photographer didn’t see it coming and his or her hands are tied. Nothing can bring that moment back — it’s lost to a grainy photo on Uncle Al’s smart phone. Another issue is wandering eyes. When your professional photographer stages a group shot of your newly combined families and Uncle Al decides to take the photo too, eyes will wander, not knowing which camera to look at first. This makes the final professional photo just look silly! One way to avoid all of these problems is to have an unplugged wedding, or at least an unplugged ceremony.

In our technology-crazed world, it’s become a habit to check our phones every few minutes, to post a constant stream of status updates to Twitter and Facebook, and to document any and everything on Instagram. At an unplugged wedding, the couple kindly asks that everyone in attendance turn off cell phones, cameras, and other digital distractions during the ceremony and/or reception. IDOYALL.COM | 101

Love is in the Hair HIRE A PROFESSIONAL HAIRSTYLIST The benefits of hiring a professional hairstylist bypass the possibility of a hair disaster. A professional hairstylist can also take on the task of creating a hairstyle that is picture worthy and worry-free. HAIR ACCESSORIES VS. TRADITIONAL VEIL Hair accessories can be a nice accent for either the most traditional or modern-day bride. Bigger accessories look best when the hair is in an updo. Smaller accessories look best in half-up hairstyles. Headband pieces look great with any hairstyle. If you are going to wear a traditional veil, stick with a simpler hair accessory in the back of the hair. CONSIDER THE VENUE Planning a hairstyle that will hold nicely against any weather conditions is important for an outdoor wedding. For southern brides, wearing your hair in an updo is recommended because there is a big chance your hair will not hold up if your wedding is outdoors due to the southern humidity. Indoor weddings allow a bride to be more creative and comfortable with her hairstyle. A bride should choose a look that complements her dress and can stay in place for her fun-filled day.

THE Best HONEYMOON S P O T S I N T H E U N I T E D S TAT E S

for the beach bums

for the adventurers

LITTLE PALM ISLAND, FLORIDA

ORLANDO, FLORIDA

For the couple who truly wants to get away from it all, this exclusive island in the Florida Keys is perfectly secluded boasting only one choice for lodging, the super-luxurious Little Palm Island Resort and Spa, where couples relax in a private bungalow. Spa services like couples’ massages can be ordered to your room or private deck on the water, and couples can choose to dine in one of the resort’s restaurants or at one of the romantic, private tables nestled among the palms on the island’s beautiful beaches.

Not just for families, Orlando’s attractions go well beyond the mouse these days. The theme park capital of the world, the Orlando area is home to a number of parks from Universal Studios, Sea World, LEGO Land and nearby Busch Gardens. There are plenty of entertainment and outdoor activities in central Florida as well, and a day trip to the beach is just a short drive away. Luxury resorts and spas can be found both on and off park properties and flights into the city are readily available at reasonable rates.

HAWAII

Some of the most beautiful scenery in the country can be found in this western national park where couples can opt to lodge in beautiful resorts, partake in highend camping or “glamping,” or rough it in one of the area’s rustic camping areas. Hiking, climbing, kayaking, fishing, and wildlife photography are just a few activities adventurous and outdoorsy couples can enjoy in the nation’s premier park.

YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK

A perennial favorite, Hawaii has served as a romantic honeymoon spot for couples for generations. With its gorgeous beaches, mountains, dense forests, and breathtaking cliffs, Hawaii offers diverse geography and activities for any interests. From lounging poolside, taking long walks on pristine beaches, hiking volcanoes and kayaking private lagoons, to island hopping and helicopter tours, there are enough activities and beautiful landscapes to fill a lifetime of honeymoons. ST. JOHN, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS

The most intimate of the U.S. Virgin Islands, St. John sports white sand and crystal clear waters. Nestled in the Caribbean, this island oasis offers all the fun and relaxation of its neighboring islands without the need for a passport. St. John offers luxurious resorts and spas including a number of all-inclusive resorts and some designed only for couples. Spring is the best time to travel to the islands before the extreme heat and hurricane season begin.

for the romantics NAPA VALLEY CALIFORNIA

Rolling hills and world class wineries offer honeymooners a romantic locale in which to indulge in the finest French cuisines, fine California wines and luxurious European style spas without having to leave the country.
