MESSAGE from the PUBLISHER I love a new beginning. A new project, a fresh start, a new year with an empty calendar just full of endless possibilities are some of my favorite things. We are so thrilled to bring you the “new” Premier Wedding Mississippi. Those of you familiar with our publication will notice a lot of changes in our magazine. Our creative team has been working hard over the last few months redesigning our pages and updating many of our features. While we have included some of our favorites developed over the years, we’ve added lots of new ideas in an effort to bring you a more contemporary publication with even more style and design inspiration for your own wedding.
We have been blessed with so many new
As we wrap production on this issue, we are headed into the Thanksgiving holiday season, and I would be remiss if I didn’t tell you just how grateful our entire Premier Wedding team is to be able to share in celebrating you and your most special day. We love to hear from couples who have used our publication to find the perfect wedding vendors, pulled ideas from our pages, or sent us photos from their own weddings to publish either in our pages or on our blog, www.idoyall.com.

beginnings for our team members this year. We have celebrated staff birthdays, college graduations, and the birth of a new grandchild. We have joyfully celebrated two new marriages among our tribe as well! Our talented Digital Marketing Manager, Kristen Jolivette Lewis, meticulously planned every detail of her beautiful spring Louisiana wedding which can be found on page 29. Kristen has since moved on to launch Leman Floral, a full service wedding planning and floral design firm, and we are so very proud of her. At the end of the summer, our Creative Director, with her fiance’ Chris for a small ceremony that was big on love and family. SAVE-THE-DATES (D) 8-12 Months (L) 6-8 Months Save-the-dates give your guests a friendly headsup. They are not always necessary, but are never a bad idea. Your guests may decide to turn your destination wedding into a getaway trip, so those savethe-dates can be sent up to a year in advance.
12
INVITATIONS (D) 3-4 Months (L) 4-8 Weeks There is such a thing as too early! Send invitations so that your guests’ maximum anticipation lines up with your big day. Invitations for destination weddings should be sent far enough in advance for your guests to make their travel plans.
| PREMIER WEDDING MISSISSIPPI WINTER / SPRING 2018
RSVP DEADLINE (D) 3-5 Weeks (L) 2-3 Weeks Your RSVP Deadline will depend on how much lead time your wedding professionals need. The first one to consider is your caterer’s meal count. Check with each vendor to determine when they need a final number and set the RSVP return date for a week before that.
THANK YOUS (D) Immediately (L) Immediately Believe it or not, you’ll start receiving gifts even before you walk down the aisle. Send their thank you cards immediately to minimize your workload after the wedding. Once you’re back from your honeymoon, kick it into high gear to get them out no later than six weeks after the wedding.

there are a few terms you need to understand before your sign your room block contract .
•
allowable shrinkage
–
•
This refers to the number or percentage of blocked rooms that are not booked. This is important if you have a guaranteed room block as there will be a penalty for unbooked rooms. The target percentage is the amount of unbooked rooms for which you will not be penalized.
•
attrition rate or minimum commitment
–
This is the percentage of rooms that have to be booked to avoid paying a fee. The target percentage is usually 80%-90% of the blocked rooms. If you do not book the minimum, you will be charged for up to the minimum percentage.
mitigation or resell clause
–
Ask if your hotel offers a resell clause. This requires the hotel to try to book unreserved rooms from your block so that you are no longer held responsible for those rooms. If they can resell those rooms, you will not be billed for them.
things to keep in mind when blocking hotel rooms:
Your hotel should be close to your reception venue---1-2 miles is best if possible. Many hotels will provide shuttle service to local airports and even to your wedding venue.
location :
amenities : Your wedding is only going to last a few hours. Guests will want to take advantage of their stay and enjoy their time in your town. Select a hotel that is easily accessible to restaurants and entertainment options. Many hotels offer amenities such as restaurants, spas, heath centers, pools, and breakfast. Some offer an incentive such as a complimentary honeymoon suite if your wedding books a lot of rooms.
20
While you want our guests to enjoy their stay, do not reserve rooms at a hotel that is too expensive for most of your guests just because they are offering you a complimentary honeymoon suite. Make sure your hotel choice is in line with most of your guests’ finances.
price point :
Make sure your invited guests know well in advance which hotels have blocked rooms and the deadline for special rate reservations.
share your hotel information with guests :

DATE
NIGHTS (that won’t break the wedding budget)
VOLUNTEER TOGETHER Visit a local shelter or charity and serve someone! Not only are you having fun with your fiancé, it’s a great way to give back to your community.
EXPLORE A LOCAL PARK Sometimes the best adventures are right outside your door!
HAVE A GAME NIGHT Ask your friends over and play some good ole fashioned board games. You don’t realize how competitive your friends are until Monopoly comes into the picture!
DIY DAY You know all those pins you’ve saved on pinterest and never tried? Now is the time to get crafty! You can probably find most of the items around your house. P.S. Check out our blog, idoyall.com for a fun paper marbling DIY! It’s oh-so-satisfying.
CHECK OUT OPEN HOUSES NEAR YOU Who doesn’t want to be Joanna Gaines? Why yes, we’ll take the $1,000 house without walls. We can shiplap that. (JK, pls don’t do that, just get an idea of what each of you would like one day.)
WATCH THE WORST MOVIES ON NETFLIX Ask your friends for ideas! Sometimes all you need is a good laugh with the person you love to have a great night. Don’t forget the popcorn.
GRAB A DISPOSABLE CAMERA Walk around your city and take pictures of each other with this oldie but goodie. After you’ve used all 28 of your pics, get them devoloped at a local drugstore. The cloud may fail you, but prints last (almost) forever.
EXERCISE Encouraging each other to be healthy can be a fun way to stay in shape.

THE FIRST
impression THE PERFECT INVITATION When your guests receive their wedding invitation, they will immediately form an impression of the ceremony to come. That is why selecting the invitation - the paper, the style, the wording - is an important first step in your wedding plans. Experienced stationers are your best guide, and their advice is available at no charge when you purchase your invitations in their store. Not only do stationers offer assistance on the invitations, but they can also provide helpful hints on when to order and mail them while also determining proper postage budgeting and a myriad of other details. Take time to select your invitations and put thought into the decision. Feel the paper samples. What impression do they give? Understated elegance? Fun? Whimsical? Romantic? Your stationer will know the etiquette for proper wording, including unusual situations such as divorced parents, second marriages, professional titles, religious customs, and so on. Envelopes should be hand addressed in black or charcoal gray ink. You may also choose professional hand calligraphy or an automated calligraphy machine for the envelopes. To determine how many invitations to order, count each couple and single guest, each attendant, parents, family and clergy. Order extra invitations to handle surprises and extra envelopes for addressing mistakes. Be certain to pre-stamp reply cards, weigh the complete invitation to ensure correct postage and remember to select attractive stamps.

Brides begin their wedding day full of excitement and anticipation of events to come. The morning of her wedding is a special time for a bride and her entourage as well, a time for them to celebrate their friendship and share in the bride’s happiness. Our bride and her girls spent their morning at The Westin Jackson where they enjoyed a sumptuous brunch courtesy of Estelle Wine Bar & Bistro, where Chef Matthew Kajdan prepared them a feast fit for a queen and her court. Once fueled for their day, the ladies hit the hotel’s fabulous Soul Spa for some well-deserved pampering before heading back to their luxurious suite to begin hair and makeup with Tracy Branch to prepare for the wedding.

Shopping
FOR THE GOWN Brides have many different ideas of how they should shop for a wedding gown. Some appointments are just like brides imagine. They come in with their mother and all their friends. Tips for Choosing
Bridesmaid Dresses
COLOR
FABRIC CHOICE
BRIDAL ENTOURAGE
Do you want everyone in the same color? Are you open to different colors? Would you like to do something new like creating an ombré look?
Decide if you want everyone in the same fabric, or are you open to mixing fabrics to create texture? Mixing textures and using the same color is a great way to create a different look for your bridesmaids. It will give your wedding more of a unique look and feel.
When going bridesmaid dress shopping, bring one or two bridesmaids with you so you don’t have to do the trying on; they can do this and you will have a better idea of how the dresses will look. More than four makes it hard for you to get what you really have in mind for your big day. Pick different sizes and shapes of dresses for your girls to try on so you’ll have a clear idea of what you would like to see on your wedding day.
If you are thinking about mixing colors, the best way to choose the right color for each girl is to think about your bridesmaids’ hair color and skin tones.
STYLE Decide how you want your bridesmaids to complement you and your wedding gown. Do you want all of your bridesmaids in the same style and/or color? Let’s be honest: choosing one dress for all of your bridesmaids to wear will not always look the best on everyone. You have to consider each attendant’s height, weight, body shape. Is anyone expecting in your wedding party? All this effects how the bridesmaids’ gown will look on that bridesmaid.
BE CONSIDERATE Your friends are excited for you and want to be part of your special day. Be conscious of what you are asking of them financially, but also personally.
AFTER THE WEDDING Think about what your bridesmaids can do with the dresses after the wedding. Reusable hues, classic styles and tasteful sequins like dark-colored dresses (black, navy, and neutrals) make it easier to wear again.
MAID/MATRON OF HONOR A great way to do this is to put her in a print, beaded sash, or a totally different dress than the rest of your bridal party. After all that she has done for you, you want her to feel special and look fabulous.
BE THOUGHTFUL Don’t try to make yourself look better by dressing your bridesmaids in something ugly. You want to choose options that complement you, your wedding, and your gown. You don’t want your bridesmaids to take away from you. PREMIERWEDDINGMS.COM

Choosing
DRESS STYLES Just started looking at wedding dresses and not sure where to begin? Torn between a ball gown and a sheath style dress? Here are some descriptions of dress silhouettes to help you while shopping for the most important dress of your life!
Sheath
A dress that creates a close silhouette to the body. Typically, a sheath style uses charmeuse or very soft and flowing material that fits close to the body, with some beading on an overlay. The sheath style gown is a perfect fit for casual weddings.
Mermaid
Also known as a fit and flare gown, the mermaid gown looks great on girls with tiny waists and for those who want to show off their curves. Accentuate the waist with a belt for more definition.
A-line
This dress resembles an “A” that creates a long line for your body. This classically elegant gown is universally flattering and will look great!

THE SOUTH’S PREMIER BRIDAL BOUTIQUE
Ballgown
This gown has a fitted bodice and full skirt. It’s the perfect proportion for any bride with a bustier bosom. If you’ve always dreamed of being a princess, this is the gown for you!
Empire
This gown is flattering because it created a long line and disguises the hips. Extending from the bust line, this shape is youthful and elegant.
Believe it or not, there are different types of length when it comes to a wedding gown. You can choose a cocktail length, which is just simply above the knee. Knee length is at the knee, while tea length is just below the knee. High-low length is just below the knee in front with a train in the back of your gown. A ballerina length dress is a dress that is cut just above the ankle, perfect for ballerinas!

BRIDE AND GROOM TRIVIA Wedding reception games are a great way to keep your guest entertained while you are being photographed before the reception or as they wait for food!
Create a list of trivia questions for each guest to fill out at the table. Have a member of the wedding party collect and read the cards to determine the winner. The guest with the most correct answers wins!
COUPLE MAD LIBS
I SPY
Create a Mad Libs-style template for your guests to fill out at their tables for marriage and love advice. This is a wedding games guests can do alone, or the whole table can get in on the fun, sharing their tips on how to keep the romance alive, fun ideas for “married dates,” and other words of wisdom.
Another fun way to get everyone involved is to place a disposable camera on each guest table with a list of special moments to capture. Each group of family and friends will have a different shot from their perspective. Some examples could be the first dance, “cheers,” table selfie, or just let them choose! You won’t know what you end up with until you take the cameras to be developed!

One of the most important milestones of one’s life is a wedding, but an event such as this is more than an esteemed occasion. In the South, it is an affair to remember. In the South, wedding season is an entire social season; and depending on what part of Mississippi you’re in, even that varies. Months of planning and decisions on caterers, florists, photographers and the like easily keep the bride’s calendar booked. Furthermore, relatives, long time friends, and college roommates come together for an opportunity to get reacquainted with one another and to honor the couple. Visions of white gowns, flickering candles, and the scent of flowers in the air become a reality. Perhaps a ceremony in a grand church or cathedral followed by a reception in a high-rise appeals to the bride and groom’s sense of style. An elegantly appointed Southern wedding is easily incorporated into a more modern setting. Taking their vows in an historic bed and breakfast enables a couple to present their wedding in a classically Southern manner while hosting a sophisticated reception on a tented lawn. 128 | PREMIER WEDDING MISSISSIPPI WINTER | SPRING 2018
Mississippi couples pull personal details from both families to create a unique style that they can call their very own.
However, the wedding is not dictated by style alone. It is genuinely Southern because of the ambiance it conveys. The atmosphere engages the bridal party and guests and allows them to remember the meaning of the special event - friends and family gathered together in an intimate setting to celebrate a union and to make treasured memories. That is what truly defines a Mississippi wedding. Join us as we visit Mississippi and the professionals that will make your dream wedding come true.

From mossdraped trees to big city attractions, the Capital River Region is one of Mississippi’s grandest regions featuring stately mansions, cannonlined battlefields, and rich southern history.
home-style meals to high end cuisine from award winning chefs and restaurants. Everything a bride could possibly want for her wedding can be found within the confines of the greater metro area which stretches from Brookhaven to the south, north through Madison and Canton, and east to Brandon to Clinton and Raymond west of the city.
The metro area offers brides a variety of venue choices from historic homes and buildings, locations with rustic charm like the Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Museum, industrial and trendy clubs in and near the hip and artsy Fondren district, elegant ballrooms of Country Clubs, hotels and historic homes and buildings, to the stylish and urbane Mississippi Museum of Art and gardens. Beautiful churches abound in the region as do lovely college campuses, chapels, converted stables, and recreational parks and outdoor offerings.
The Capital River Region also features Vicksburg, one of Mississippi’s most historic and beautiful cities. Located along the banks of the Mississippi River, a visit to Vicksburg offers a glimpse of Old South grandeur, while Civil War re-enactments recall the heartache of a nation torn apart. The bluffs of Vicksburg overlook the majestic Mississippi River for the most scenic outdoor weddings in Mississippi while charming antebellum homes make for unforgettable indoor events. Boasting luxurious historic homes as well as the excitement of casino gaming, Vicksburg brides have both a wealth of history at their fingertips and modern amenities to keep guests entertained all weekend long.

mississippi’s own taste of paradise
T
he Mississippi Gulf Coast is the perfect place for a destination wedding or a romantic honeymoon. It’s a little piece of paradise. Just ask anyone living on the Coast. Located an hour’s drive from New Orleans and Mobile is Mississippi’s very own treasure, the beautiful Gulf Coast. With 28 miles of shoreline, white sand and the Gulf of Mexico, brides love a beach wedding and entertaining their guests on the Mississippi sands. All you have to decide is where to begin. Resorts, luxury hotels, casinos, and quaint bed and breakfasts dot the shoreline. Adventurous excursions, live entertainment, and historic sites are just a few of the possibilities that will pique you and your guests’ interests. For the Jacques Cousteau in everyone, chartering a boat for a deep sea fishing expedition to catch dinner or taking an excursion to Ship Island is always invigorating. If your golf swing could use some improvement, championship courses offer the perfect cure-all. Mississippi proudly
lays claim to the world-renowned Walter Anderson museum and numerous historic sites, such as Beauvoir, Jefferson Davis’ final home. And with Las Vegas style casinos on the coast, you can enjoy top-notch entertainment and all the amenities of these grand hotels. Stunning beaches provide the perfect picturesque backdrop for a ceremony overlooking the sparkling Gulf of Mexico. For those who appreciate the simple pleasures in life, there is dinner on a sunset cruise, the ever-relaxing stroll along the beach, sand between one’s toes, and of course, the beautiful view. The Mississippi Gulf Coast combines everything in one romantic destination: food, art, history, atmosphere, entertainment, and Southern charm.

wedding website TIPS FOR CREATING YOUR
1. FREE IS THE BEST You can create a personalized site online for free. Search for sites that offer free website services..
2. MAKE IT NEED-TO-KNOW + A LITTLE EXTRA There are two reasons to make a wedding website. One is to give guests need-toknow info that may not be included on the invite. The second reason is to add more information that guests will want to know, like suggested attire.
3. DON’T HOLD BACK WHEN DISPLAYING REGISTRY DETAILS You can add links directly to your registries.
4. ADD PERSONAL DETAILS Let visitors to your site get to know you better by giving them a little bit of background on yourself and your soon-tobe spouse. Tell the story of how you met and include pictures of the proposal.
5. FAR AWAY FRIENDS & FAM WILL THANK YOU Post logistical details for guests making travel plans.
6. DON’T FORGET TO PROOFREAD Double-check that all the addresses and other facts are correct. You don’t want your guests to get lost or confused.

estled on a bluff overlooking the Mississippi River, Natchez is exactly what you picture when you imagine a Southern wedding. Ceremonies held in elegantly furnished, palatial mansions are commonplace here. Outdoor receptions on the grounds of stately plantations near the river’s edge and buffets under pergolas draped in azaleas and wisteria are also customary. Moreover, the city has more than 30 mansions from which to choose. These venues are only part of the nostalgic charm that lures brides and grooms to Natchez. It is quite possibly one of the most romantic and sought after sites for destination weddings in the country. In addition to its beautiful setting, Natchez also easily accommodates the bridal party and guests with its extensive selection of professionals to assist the bride with everything from the announcement party and rehearsal dinner to the ceremony, reception, and honeymoon.
Although Natchez is popular among brides, its charm appeals to everyone. Attendants and wedding guests can step back in time for the weekend and tour antebellum homes, take a “Pour Tour of the local winery, distillery and brewery, peruse the downtown shops, or enjoy the local fare of everything from biscuits and bacon to haute cuisine while reconnecting with family and friends. Whether you are planning a fairy tale wedding, a family reunion, or simply looking for a weekend getaway, rest and relaxation await you in Natchez. And when it is time for the bride and groom to commemorate their anniversary, they can reconnect with their families and attendants where they celebrated their nuptials. A wedding in Natchez will not only be unique, it will be an experience to remember and revisit again and again.
