A warm welcome to The Salterns. We hope that your time with us is just perfect. The Salterns apartments are situated in Premier’s award-winning Chichester Marina which is located in Chichester Harbour ‘a designated area of outstanding natural beauty’. Set on the sunny southern side of this private marina and with panoramic views across the pontoons, the apartments are flanked by a locked section of the historic Chichester Ship Canal. This picturesque 19th Century canal is home to a myriad of wildfowl and you can walk the towpath from the harbour back through 4 miles of open farmland to the City of Chichester. Styled in the tradition of a Sussex barn, the apartments are uniquely designed to make the most of guests’ privacy and the stunning views afforded by the backdrop of the marina. The apartment interiors have also been individually laid out to provide contemporary living spaces that in combination with opulent touches, deliver comfort, style and luxury. Private parking, the facility to berth your boat close to your apartment, plus the opportunity to explore miles of glorious coastline on foot or afloat, add to the experience.

UNIQUE Once inside the apartments have been exquisitely designed and uniquely fitted out to delight even the most discerning guest.

Time to refresh, to reconnect, to try something new - time for you and yours. Whether you’re looking for some relaxing ‘me time’, a romantic escape from a tough week, or the chance to share activities and laughter with friends and family, The Salterns offers all you need to de-stress and reconnect with the ones you love. Set at the heart of an exceptional private marina, our apartments are perfect for those who simply enjoy coastal walks or relaxing by the sea. But if you prefer to be on the water, there’s the option to explore the harbour and the famous cruising grounds of the Solent in a yacht or RIB, or to launch a dinghy from the marina slipway. Once inside, the apartments have been exquisitely designed and thoughtfully fitted out to delight even the most discerning guest. Most apartments offer a private balcony or decked patio to draw the ambiance of the marina in and provide an ideal place to catch up and relax as the activities in the marina change the scenery. A private garden for guests flanks the apartments and runs down to the water’s edge where pontoon berths and decking stretch out into the marina.

Contemporary, luxurious, but ultimately built for comfort, each apartment has a unique style. The Salterns offers a delightful mix of 1 and 2 bedroomed apartments – each with its own unique decor. Generous living spaces with ‘cooks’ kitchen equipment, dishwashers and washer dryers to hand, flow into sophisticated dining areas and stylish seating. Kick back and relax on a comfy sofa with a Sonos system and flat screen TV to entertain; cook up a feast whilst the family thrashes the WiFi, or step outside and let the wind through the masts and the ambience of the marina provide the mood music for romance. Sumptuous, elegantly styled, and with superb attention to detail, best sums up the care that’s built into every Salterns’ master bedroom. Sink back into the comfort of a king-sized bed and watch TV; luxuriate in crisp linen, or step away into the private sanctum of your ensuite bathroom for a revitalising long hot shower or lazy bath. Our second bedrooms reflect all the comfort and style of our master bedrooms and with the young ones in mind, children’s rooms are bright, practical and fun. Family bathrooms are also beautifully laid out with full suites that include a quality shower. A generous supply of luxury towels, shaving points and a good hairdryer complete the ablution inventory.

SEE & DO On foot or afloat, Chichester Harbour and its environs offers an interesting and eclectic mix of things to see and do.

The Salterns, beside the sea, but with so much more to see and do The Salterns apartments were named to celebrate a history of salt-making in Chichester Harbour which began in Roman times and concluded in the 19th century. Today, whilst salt-making is in the past, much of this natural harbour remains untouched with wide expanses of tidal flats, saltings and intricate creeks that are easy to explore on foot or afloat, and are home to an abundance of wildlife. Take a stroll around the marina punctuated by a coffee at the Boat House Café; follow the historic Chichester Ship Canal starting from the picturesque tow path ‘on your doorstep’ through scenic farmland to the Cathedral City of Chichester; hire a bike and head west from the marina following the Salterns Way, taking in the pretty fishing village of Itchenor and the glorious sand dunes of the Witterings and East Head. Alternatively, venture north skirting Appledram and the Roman Palace of Fishbourne to arrive at Chichester’s medieval Market Cross that dates from 1501 and heralds the city’s shopping mecca. If exploring by water holds greater appeal, you can hire small craft and RIBs locally. Paddle boards are also available, but if you want to turn up the heat on adventure you can hire a windsurf or kitesurf board. For those who prefer to play passenger, there are harbour water tours, fishing charters and cruises along the historic Chichester Ship Canal which opened in 1822.

The Novium Museum Chichester

From historians to thespians, music buffs to foodies, Chichester has something for everyone. Built as a ‘new marketplace’ for a local Celtic tribe; used as an administrative centre by the Romans; named by Saxons; converted by Alfred the Great into a burgh to fight off the Danes and the site of a siege in the English Civil War, Chichester has certainly contributed to the history of West Sussex. Inside the City’s Roman walls, Chichester is divided into quadrants by its principal streets, which meet at the medieval market cross. The Cathedral Quadrant is the most impressive with its dominating Norman Cathedral, the Bishop’s Palace Gardens, and a Roman bastion. The Promenade Quadrant houses the Novium Museum which was built to display the remains of the Roman baths and holds a superb collection that encapsulates local history; The Parks Quadrant includes Priory Park, renowned for cricket, jazz festivals and a pretty 13th Century Franciscan Friary that’s now The Guildhall. The last quadrant, The Georgian Quadrant, is home to the City’s finest buildings including The Pallant House Gallery – a modern art gallery of international repute that combines an historic Queen Anne townhouse with an architect-designed contemporary extension. History aside, and close to the walls, Chichester boasts one of the UK’s flagship theatres, the Chichester Festival Theatre; here you can enjoy everything from grand musicals to distinguished dramas. And if you are looking to eat before a show you’ll find that Chichester offers an eclectic range of restaurants, bistros and pubs.

Goodwood. Home to Dukes for over 300 years and a stunning setting for a host of world-famous sporting events. Goodwood House, the home of the Earl and Countess of March, combines all the glamour of a great English country house with refined cream teas and a dramatic Regency setting for one of the country’s most significant private art collections. But that’s not all. Beyond the house, and known affectionately as ‘England’s Playground’, the Goodwood Estate offers up 12,000 spectacular acres that host a dazzling array of sporting activities - from action-packed horseracing to flying, motor racing, golf and shooting. From April to October the excitement on the Estate soars; with a remarkable line up of world-famous events that attract over half a million visitors each year. In June the Goodwood Festival of Speed takes centre stage with a unique motoring garden party that boasts a heady, high-octane, cocktail of fast cars, celebrities and motor sport ‘royalty’. Balmy July brings The Qatar Goodwood Festival or ‘Glorious Goodwood’ and this event unites the world’s rich and famous with the finest horses and jockeys to deliver the sporting and social highlight of the flat-racing season. The August Bank Holiday is a family affair with live music, traditional 1950’s fairground entertainment and a spectacular Friday night firework display. In September we step back in time with the Goodwood Revival which celebrates the halcyon days of motor racing in the naughty 40’s, the fabulous 50’s and the swinging 60’s - a long weekend on which to join in, dress up and chill out.
