Chapter 14: The Three Gunas "SANSAR BANDAN SE CHUTNE KE LIYE SATVA, RAJ, TAMM INN TEEN GUNO SE ATITH HONA JAROORI HAIN. ANANYA BHAKTI SE MANUSH INN TEEN GUNO SE ATITH HO JATA HAIN."

Acharya Satguru Swami Teoonramji Maharaj Let us know the word “Teoon Ram” ‘Te’ in Sindhi language means ‘Three’ and Aum contains ‘A’ Kar ‘U’ Kar ‘M’ Kar with Ardha Chandra Matra. ‘A’ Kar, ‘U’ Kar and ‘M’ Kar have Brahma, Vishnu & Mahesh as their respective deites ‘Mahesh’ is the deity of Tamogun (Attribute of Darkness) Brahma is the deity of Rajogun (Attribute of Passion) and Vishnu is the deity of Satogun (Attribute of Divinity). Thus the meaning of Teoonram is one who is above the three gunas and acquired divine knowledge

TEOON GUN HI TAEYE, HIN MANJH JEEV BADHA SWAAL MUNJHO SUN SAEEN, NIRGUN NAAM DE SADA SHANT SACHI MAAN PAYA, TUHINJO DHYAAN DHARE SIKH TUHINJHI MEIN SATGURU, DILRI DAHU KARE UBRIYO ACHAN THA UDHMA RATIYA DIHA RARRE The Lord says… I shall further explain the supreme wisdom, knowing which all the sages attained the highest perfection. By fastening oneself on this knowledge one can attain a transcendental nature similar to mine.

Souls are not born during the time of creation; neither do they get distressed at the time of dissolution. The Brahman, the total material substance is the source of birth, making possible the birth of all other creatures. Understand that all species arise from this material nature, of which I am the seed-giving father. The three modes of material nature, sattva, rajas, and tamas, condition the living entity, when he comes in contact with nature. Of these sattva, the mode of goodness, is pure as it is enlightening and without sorrow. Those following this mode get conditioned by happiness and knowledge. Rajas, the mode of passion leads to unlimited yearnings and attachment and because of this, one gets attached to material actions. Tamas is the mode of ignorance that deludes all embodied beings. It leads to misapprehensions and results in madness and laziness. The mode of goodness binds one to happiness, the mode of passion to fruitive action and the mode of ignorance binds one to insanity. There is always a fight for supremacy among the three modes of nature; sometimes goodness is prominent, defeating passion and ignorance, sometimes passion subdues goodness and ignorance and defeats goodness and passion. Sattva, the quality of goodness will be prominent when the whole being is enlightened with knowledge. When there is an increase in rajas, the mode of passion, attachment, deep yearning, fruitive activity will develop. When there is an increase in tamas, the mode of ignorance, darkness, insanity and delusions get manifested. When one dies under the mode of sattva, he attains the pure higher worlds of great sages. When one dies under the influence of rajas, he is born among those engaged in fruitive activity and when one dies under the influence of tamas, he is born into mode of delusion. The result of pious action is pure and is in the mode of goodness. Action under the influence of passion results in misery, while the result of work in tamas is foolishness. From sattva understanding is born, from rajas materialism is born and from tamas foolishness, delusion and ignorance are born. Those established in sattva ascend to higher planets; those in rajas remains on earthly planets and those in, the lowest quality of tamas, descend to hellish worlds. When one correctly understands that all actions are a result of the three modes of nature and he realizes the Supreme Lord, he attains spiritual transcendence. When an embodied being transcends these three modes of nature and liberates him from this material existence he is freed from birth, death, old age and illness and is able to enjoy life. Arjuna says‌O Lord, how can we realize who is transcended the three modes, how he has transcended them and how does he conduct himself? The Lord says‌ One who does not hate illumination, who is undisturbed by the mode of nature, who remains unwavering, who treats sorrow and success equally, who dwells in the self, to whom a lump of earth, a stone and gold are the same, who regards equally the desirable and undesirable, who is steadfast, who is not bothered by blame or praise, to whom honor and dishonor are the same, who treats friend and enemy alike, and who has renounced all material undertakings-such a person is said to have transcended the three modes of nature. One who is constantly engaged in devotional service, irrelevant of circumstances immediately transcends the three gunas and attains Brahman. I am the basis of Brahman which is immortal, the imperishable, eternal and am absolute bliss. O Satguru Swami Teoonram, you are our Lord Krishna!!! We pray to you Sai that we become a disciple like Arjuna so that we comprehend and imbibe the treasure of knowledge in our lives that you have bestowed on us. Reverence in your Holy feet!
