Chapter 3: Yoga of Action "NISHKAM BHAV PURVAK KEVAL DUSRO KE HITH KE LIYE APNE KARTAVYA KA TATPARTA SE PALAN KARNE MATRA SE KALYAN HO JAATA HAIN"

YA NIJ ATAM GYAAN JO YA HO PARUPKAR, TEOON JISME YE NAHI MANUSH SO BEKAR Re Man Mera Karam Karo Shubh, Karmo Ka Yeh Jahana Hain 1. Sukh Dukh Phal Hain Karmo Kera, Banta Aur Bahana Hain 2. Janam Maran Puni Laabh Haani Ka, Karam Ati Pradhan Hain 3. Kiya Karam Kab Mitaya Nahi, Kehte Sant Sujjan Hain 4. Bhoge Bin Yeh Bhaagat Nahi, Terath Ved Purana Hain 5. Kaheta Teoon Nischay Kariye, Karam Bahut Balwana Hain Arjuna tells the Lord that he is confused that on one hand knowledge of self is superior to action and on the other hand He is persuading him to engage in action. The Lord thus explains to him... Devotion can be on the basis of the two: one on the basis of knowledge (those involved in contemplation) and the other on the basis of action (yogis). No one is ever free from action. Every moment of their lives, people are forced to act whether they like it or not. This is because of the influence of gunas. Action is important because we cannot even maintain our own body without it. Great is the man who can use his mind to control his senses and do his karma without any attachment! Except a sacrifice, every kind of action done in this world is binding. Hence, perform all action as if it were a sacrifice that you are doing in the name of God. Do it without any attachment. One who is content with self and derives happiness from self alone is said to be freed of duties. He attaches nothing to the results of his action. Thus, the gain and loss resulting from his actions means the same to him. Therefore, do your duty without any attachment to the fruits of your work, for only by acting without attachment, will you be able to realize God. Janaka and other kings attained perfection by proper action alone. Whatever a great man does, the world follows. Whatever standards he sets, the world pursues. God says to Arjuna although there is no work that I need to complete in all the three worlds I still do my duties. For, if I fail to engage myself in proper action people would follow my footsteps and act like me.

The wise should be responsible for making the ignorant act in accordance with the prescribed duties. However, the wise should not confuse or frighten the ignorant. Rather, they should make them take delight in what they are doing. It is the gunas which perform all the actions. The one who sees the body in the false ego imagines “I am the doer”. The one who knows that it is the gunas, which act with one another, knows the truth concerning the two spheres: ‘actions’ and ‘gunas’. Such a person remains unattached. The solution for the fever of senses is to offer all of oneself to the Lord in the knowledge of the soul within; free from any kind of desire or grief or any kind of sense-impelled emotion. Such a person will be freed from all karmic bindings. It is the sense, which drives us to feel attached or detached towards sense objects. So it is important not to come under the influence of the senses. They are our real enemies. Arjuna questions the Lord “What is the influence that makes one act improperly forcing him against his will?” The Lord replies: It is the influence of Rajo-guna, which finally transforms into great anger. Excessive desire envelope’s one’s mind and masks the understanding and clarity. It even influences the wise, thus regulate your senses right from the beginning of this war and kill this devil that kills your knowledge and self-realisation. The senses are superior to sense objects, the mind is superior to the senses, superior to the mind is the intellect. Superior even to the intellect is the self. Thus, knowing one’s self is superior to everything else, control your mind with intellect. In this way, destroy the unconquerable enemy in the form of desire. O Satguru Swami Teoonram, you are our Lord Krishna!!! We pray to you Sai that we become a disciple like Arjuna so that we comprehend and imbibe the treasure of knowledge in our lives that you have bestowed on us. Reverence in your Holy feet!
