LOVE & HEALING ABOUND AT HARTFORD VILLAGE
Your Donation is Helping Charles After Heart Transplant Surgery
Anew heart offered a new start for 65 year old Hartford Village resident Charles Keith. Your donation helped to fill a large financial gap and was key to the construction of Hartford Village in Detroit. Because you cared to donate, Hartford Village is now 1 of 10 City of Detroit PVM Villages. A special thank you to Hartford Memorial Baptist Church, too. Without Hartford Village, Charles’ story would have been quite different and possibly for the worse. Thank you for choosing to donate. You did something wonderful for Charles Enjoy this heartfelt story.

Prior to moving into Hartford Village, Charles, at 59, was living a very active personal and professional life. Careers at GM, IT sales at Motorola, and finally owning his own hardwood flooring business kept him always on the go.
Then he noticed more and more fatigue. “I knew something was not right,” says Charles. Within five years he was at a cross roads facing a new start with a new heart.
“My wife knew things needed to change quickly. I could not live at our current home anymore. Too many stairs and too many chores. She made the decision to move us to Hartford Village.”
Originally Charles was not thrilled with the prospect of moving to a senior living community. “This place is not for me. I am not ready for this kind of a life. My wife insisted we move in, and I am so blessed that she did,” says Charles with a grin ear to ear. During 2020, in the height of COVID, Charles Keith had a heart transplant.
In his mid-sixties, Charles now faced a steep recovery after his heart transplant. “All the ladies and a few men took care of me and willed me back to health with so much love and support. The day I returned from the hospital they had a welcoming parade. So much love.”
“I gained knowledge, strength, and a whole lot of insight from the Hartford Village residents. The majority of them were 20 years older than me with a lot of ailments. Surprisingly, they were still doing great things each day. This inspired me to keep going in spite of my own personal health issues. I guess Hartford Village kind of saved my life!”
One caring resident gave his wife a gas card to pay for the many trips to the doctor. “It is a big caring family here. Each day of my recovery, I had so many fellow residents looking in on me. I could not imagine another place like it.”
Charles is back on his feet. He is recouped enough to run his hardwood flooring business again. However, he always makes time for his Hartford Village family. “Coffee time is every other Saturday. I never miss it, and I don’t even like coffee! A lot of stuff gets solved there.”
Your donation helped build Hartford Village and brought together the extended family Charles needed in order to recover and go on with life. “Not sure if I would be here without my friends at Hartford Village. I’m so grateful.”
Saving a life one donation at a time. Thank you so, so much!
