Auto-gration: an integrated eBusiness solution for SMEs in the automotive sector

An auto-gration Architecture is being proposed to facilitate the integration of data exchanges among SMEs, especially in the automotive sector.

A project aiming at overcoming the inefficiencies present in the automotive sector because of differences and often incompatibilities in e-business processes, systems and protocols is being developed by a European consortium. The auto-gration project’s main aim consists in facilitating the integration of data exchanges among Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), especially in the automotive industry, overcoming particularly in SMEs the fragmentation in technological capacities with a multiplicity of different standards and solutions and with very low interoperability levels, especially across borders. Many of these enterprises are still using manual-based processes, especially small providers in supply chains, with a highly inefficient, time consuming and costly business organisation. They risk being excluded from global supply chains because of their inability to apply interoperable e-business solutions with prospective partners. The auto-gration project in particular aims to improve the efficiency of the automotive supply chain by enabling smarter information and data flows. It should help in leveraging existing ICT tools to create a seamless e-business environment for the automotive value chain, including the smallest enterprises. In 2011 the auto-gration project entered its second year and the results achieved so far appear very satisfactory, particularly with the development of the auto-gration Architecture, which has been tested among all the consortium members. An Early Adopters Programme (EAP) formed by volunteer companies which have agreed to integrate the first versions of auto-gration into their existing software has been launched with the support of stakeholders from all over Europe (small and medium enterprises, large companies, B2B providers etc). The final project event – The auto-gration Final Dissemination Conference – is planned for early 2012 (date and venue to be announced soon) and is expected to bring together more than 250 national and regional automotive sector players from all over Europe.
