1st. Eco-REFITEC WORKSHOP -
ECO-REFITEC is holding a workshop at the University of Constantza in Romania on 5 May 2011.
ECO-REFITEC is a medium-scale focused research project that intends to support the repair of shipyards and encourage ship operators to refit existing fleet through technological developments and new tools. This approach should help the shipping industry benchmark their performance, improving the retrofitting process and products, and assessing environmental as well as life cycle cost impact. The workshop in May intends to gather experts in the field and evaluate the most relevant aspects that need to be investigated: eco-innovative processes, structures, materials and equipment modules appropriate to be used in repair /retrofit and conversion of vessels in Europe. ECO-REFITEC intends to "map" the eco-innovation knowledge supporting both the development of an expert group in the ship repair & recycling field and supporting the establishment of an institutionalised system of consultation and information exchange. Who should attend? - Maritime Industry and Associations - Eco-Innovation European Networks. - SMEs involved in the repair and conversion of ships - Others‌ Having kicked off in January 2011, ECO-REFITEC is a three-year research project. It has been launched with the incentive to improve the competitiveness of the European shipyards and SME's involved in shipbuilding, ship repair & recycling. The project intends to support repair shipyards and ship operators to perform a refitting of existing fleet, through technological development and new tools, helping shipping benchmarking their performance, improving the retrofit processes and products, and assessing environmental and life cycle cost impact.
