Rationalising Traffic: Solutions for urban logistics at Paris workshop
"Urban Logistics Solutions Case studies" is the 3rd Workshop organized by TURBLOG_WW project to be held in Paris on the 28th April 2011. The workshop will gather a representative group of experts to discuss and present Urban Logistics Solutions from a Worldwide Perspective.
In a world where everything seems to be interconnected, the importance of linking urban logistics to environmental, economic, and social needs is of the utmost importance. Imagine it is rush hour and you're stuck behind the wheel of your car with one truck collecting garbage and another delivering refrigerators. You and your fellow commuters stand there, honking your horns wondering why they have to deal with such a lack of urban logistics at this hour! This is why the TURBLOG_WW project (Transferability of urban logistics concepts and practices from a worldwide perspective), funded under the 7th Framework Programme, has a vital role. Its main aim is to disseminate existing knowledge on urban logistics to several countries, thus contributing to the transfer of knowledge among Europe and Latin America. Urban freight is indispensable for a city's economy but at the same time significantly affects the attractiveness and the quality of urban life. It acts as a coordination platform and knowledge centre for urban logistics practices and solutions worldwide. With a particular focus on Brazil and Peru, its aim is to improve awareness, enhance cooperation and exchange experiences in city logistics best practices between European countries and countries worldwide. The project puts together past urban logistics experiences and good practices, analyses them, extracts lessons learned and disseminates the information at national, European and intercontinental levels, which will support ongoing and future related urban logistics plans. The main goal is to extend, expand and transfer the existent knowledge to other countries and thus effectively contribute to the overall objective of extending the research and knowledge dissemination between EU and Latin America, as expressed in the EC Communication "A stronger partnership between the European Union and Latin America" and recently reinforced by the EC dialogue with Brazil to improve social cohesion (April 2008) where it is said that "dialogue will consist of regular exchanges of information, experience and best practice as well as exchange of views on topics of common interest". In addition, with the transfer of knowledge TURBLOG_WW expands also the influence of PRESS4TRANSPORT is funded by the European Commission's Directorate-General for Research under the Seventh Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development (FP7)
Europe in other parts of the world. A better knowledge on urban logistics concepts and practices and its overall integration into the urban mobility planning is one of those common interest issues, which overall success will positively impact on social inclusion and regional integration as desired by all participants. The TURBLOG_WW project team is currently organizing the Workshop "Urban Logistics Solutions Case studies", to be held in Paris on the 28th April 2011. This 3rd project workshop will gather a representative group of experts to discuss and present Urban Logistics Solutions from a Worldwide Perspective. Business models and logistic profiles characterisation identified in selected case studies as well as a step-wise methodological framework for the transferability of interventions will constitute the core of this event.
