REACT Conference: better air, better future, with climate friendly transport

Conference in Belgrade during May to highlight future directions of research in the field of climate friendly transport. Select individuals will receive free accommodation by applying early.

"Shaping Climate Friendly Transport in Europe: Key Findings & Future Directions" is the theme for the next REACT Conference in Belgrade, Serbia on May 16-17 2011. To mark the continued progress in climate friendly transport theory and practice leading to application in science and our lives, the conference will focus on three sub-themes: 1.Future research priorities 2.Policy interventions 3.Evaluating policies and measures The European REACT Programme aspires to act as a driving force for coordinating, supporting and strengthening the Research & Technology Development (RTD) area of climate-friendly transport and mobility, so as to attain a European level of funding opportunities for the mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions from transport. The REACT vision is to raise awareness and, in parallel, to contribute to the shaping of a consensus among European funding agencies (EU Member States and Associated States). The project addresses the social and economic imperative to improve the quality of the air, thus opening the way to an improved quality of life for European citizens and future generations. This is to be achieved by avoiding resource waste and fragmenting research on sustainable transport. Relevant questions to be addressed during the conference include (but are not restricted to) the following: - What should be the focus of future research on low-carbon transport? - What research on technologies and policy instruments should be prioritized? - Should the EU and its Member States fund and coordinate research for climate friendly transport? - How can the EU further contribute to the development of instruments throughout the MS? - How can the impact of climate-friendly policy interventions and measures be assessed? PRESS4TRANSPORT is funded by the European Commission's Directorate-General for Research under the Seventh Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development (FP7)

The conference is free to attend. For a select number of participants, two nights of accommodation will be covered. Priority will be given to those who submit a full paper to the conference proceedings (500 words maximum). Call for abstracts on unpublished original work and registration for the conference is open until the 15th of March. Please visit www.react-transport.eu for more information.
