The successful story of PRO.MOTION.

PRO.MOTION is a project within the framework of the Intelligent Energy Europe programme of DG TREN. The aim is to facilitate energy efficient transport forms in the joint field of housing and mobility and to reduce the need for transport by providing services and facilities, which replace transport services. The main tasks of PRO.MOTION are implementing new applications, educating key players and disseminating the project’s results.

The PRO.MOTION project has successfully finished now and it is time to take a look to the achieved results. The project, within the framework of the Intelligent Energy Europe programme of DG TREN, aimed at facilitating energy efficient transport forms in the joint fields of housing and mobility and at reducing the need for transport by providing services and facilities: practically speaking, it make it easier for citizens to choose sustainable modes for their every day transport and to enlarge the group of key actors integrating sustainable mobility and housing. 17 partner organisations from 12 European countries worked on energy efficient mobility in their own local context focusing on implementing new applications, educating key players and disseminating the project’s results: the main objective was to reduce the favourable position of the private car and to strengthen the attractiveness of sustainable transport. The success of PRO.MOTION is essentially due to some key factors, especially the involvement of inhabitants, stakeholders and politicians in improving conditions and in raising awareness of sustainable modes or in the fact that the project meets the needs of people in terms of sustainable modes not only where their trips end but also where they live. As a matter of fact, the best way to increase the use of sustainable modes is when both infrastructural issues and awareness raising are integrated within the planning process from the beginning. This way it is possible to make it easy for inhabitants to choose sustainable modes. All PRO.MOTION publications and its excellent final outcomes, can be found at www.iee-promotion.eu. In particular, ARENE Île-de-France and ARPE Midi-Pyrénées produced 2 Guidebooks to help decision makers and planners to integrate sustainable mobility either in their Local Agenda 21, either in the conception of new neighborhoods, especially regarding the PRO.MOTION levels.
