TransNEW: A new project will open Europe's transport to its Eastern borders
The TransNEW Project, which is part of the Coordination and Support Actions for the EU Framework 7 Programme for Research, aims at supporting transport research activities in the new Member States and beyond. It will also stimulate the participation of small and medium enterprises in actions at national, regional and European level through the creation of a Europe-wide database to be unveiled in 2011.
Born in 2010, the TransNEW project is aimed at the new Member States of the European Union and at its candidate and associate countries. It covers all transport modes, aeronautics included. Its aim is to put together all those bodies - be they small and medium enterprises, universities and research centres and national transport authorities - who can make an active contribution to solve the many challenges of sustainable transport systems. The project began on 01 January 2010, has 16 Partners and will last for 24 months. Its aim is to establish new patterns of collaboration by mapping the transport research potential in new member and associate states. It will also try to offer support to research activities by stimulating, encouraging and facilitating the participation of new member states in national, regional and European research projects. The envisaged creation of a publicly accessible international database specifying the research capacities of each participating member will hopefully facilitate exchanges and integration between universities, authorities, large research institutions and companies - particularly SMEs. The database will be continuously enlarged since it will be up to the interested parties to enter the relevant information directly through the TransNEW website: www.transnew.eu. The website is also providing newsletters in the "News" section www.transnew.eu/#/news/4541953615 and the calendar of the workshops in the "Events" page www.transnew.eu/#/events/4538341693 SMEs can register to be on the database at www.transnew.eu/#/sme-focus/4541440991 and at Euromobilita, the Czech Republic partner for SMEs.
