he table setting styling at a wedding is just as important as other visual statements such as the dress, the floral arrangement and the wedding cake. The table is an ideal area to unleash your imagination and creative
juices and allows you to transport your guests into another world. Layering textures like soft feathers, sculpted glassware and silk ribbons draped from golden branches exude luxury and an exciting, vibrant color palette of Aqua and Gold, with matching fresh cut flowers, simple but elegant candles and hanging glass baubles can transform a simple table into an opulent feast for the eyes.

his beautiful dessert table was inspired by bridesmaids dresses which were all different tones of corals. The linen was all sequin silver which made it festive and elegant all at the same time. We incorporated macarons (the brides favorite!)
which were painted in a light and deep coral garnished with a touch of gold. The cake pops are always super popular and one of our favorites as it is a rich and dense cake coated in chocolate and then decorated. We alternated white and corals with the little gold coarse sprinkles. On the left hand lower picture those are chocolate covered Oreos! We absolutely love these gems as they are a surprise to all of the guests. Last but not least the little martini cups were filled with our tropical fruit mousse. It is a combination of a sweet mousse with pineapples, cherries, blueberries and oranges. The table was decorated with brides and bridesmaids bouquet which made it even prettier. It was a breathtaking display!

If you recently got engaged, congratulations! Before you know it, you’ll be in the throes of wedding planning and you’ll want to start shopping for a dress. Here are some top tips to help with your bridal gown search!
01
D O N ’ T D E L AY. One of your first steps in planning your wedding should be finding a bridal gown!
Ideally, you should start your dress search a year before the wedding. Gowns are cut to order - this is not your usual off the rack shopping. Alterations also take time, and you'll want some time to finalize your accessories.
02
M A K E A N A P P O I N T M E N T. Most
bridal
salons
and
boutiques
are
appointment-only so be sure to plan your
trip a week or two in advance. Most are happy to take walk-ins, but we recommend making an appointment so that a dedicated Stylist can help.
03
WHO TO BRING. Think small entourage and only bring those people closest to your heart, for an
intimate experience. It can be fun to shop with a big group of friends, but with a large group sometimes comes mixed signals. When you're ready to make a decision a small group can be less confusing.

21

STYLE FILE / THE DRESS
04
N O W Y O U R B U D G E T. Discuss a budget with whoever is paying for the gown before you walk in the door,
so that you don’t fall in love with something you can’t afford. Gowns are available in a wide range of prices from a few hundred dollars to well over $10,000, so it’s important to know where you’d like to be budget-wise.
05
GET INSPIRED. Feel free to bring inspirational photos you’ve found in bridal magazines to share with
your Stylist, or if you are a bit more tech-savvy set up a Pinterest page with gown styles, colors, fabrics and accessories you like the look of.
06
COME WITH AN OPEN MIND. You may bring some ideas with you, but at the same time it’s important to consider
your Stylist’s suggestions. Try things on they pick out even if you don’t love it on the hanger, you might be surprised! And don’t get stuck on checklists - brides often end up with something they never imagined themselves wearing.
07
CONSIDER TRUNK SHOWS. If you didn’t find your dress on the first round? Consider re-visiting for a Trunk
show - these are special events where salons and boutiques have extra dresses they don’t normally have in stock - sometimes straight from the runway or new dresses that aren’t in stores yet. Also, most salons and boutiques will make special orders, so even if it’s not in store, they can also track down a sample and ship it to the store for you to try on!
I S S U E 0 1 – J U LY / A U G U S T 2 0 1 5
22
W W W. P R I D E A N D G R O O M .C O
08
WEAR NUDE UNDERGARMENTS. A simple nude, strapless bra and nude underwear are recommended when
you try on the dress so you get the full picture without straps and patches of color showing through. Also, bring shoes with a similar height as what you plan on wearing at your wedding, so you can see how the dress falls with heels.
09
C O N S I D E R T H E W E D D I N G D E TA I L S. You don’t need to have your entire wedding planned out, but having an
overall idea of how formal your ceremony is, or the time of year or city where your wedding will take place, can make a huge difference in what kind of dress you pick. Or do what some brides do - pick the dress first, and have that set the tone for the rest of the wedding!
10
D O N ’ T E X P E C T A “ M O M E N T ”. This happens for some brides, but you may not feel the clouds part and angels
sing when you find your dress. Instead of an emotional response, look for the dress that makes you visualize your wedding day. STYLE FILE / WHAT TO WEAR?
When it comes to the dress code for weddings, they can be split into three categories; traditional, casual or unconventional. Even though equal marriage rights maybe new to the Florida scene, the rules are still the same. You should try to never be that one person who appears to be completely out of place. And the only thing that is on everyone’s mind is how odd you look.
L
ets break this down, the guidelines for menswear at a wedding, whether you are the one getting married, participating in the ceremony, or just simply a guest. On the invitation it should state the type of attire that is required or you can tell by the venue of the ceremony.
TRADITIONAL WEDDINGS: Classic and timeless should be the only direction to go for. This is where you should keep things simple and let the small details be the focus of the outfit. Black, gray, and navy solid suits are perfect for this type of wedding. Midnight navy and dark charcoal are great alternatives to the true and tried black tux. Steer away from bold shades and intense patterns. Remember the fit is essential! Regardless if you spent money to buy a bespoke suit or one from a department store, fit is the most important factor to this look. A good tailor will be your best friend. The suit should just skim around your torso and the shoulders should stop at your shoulder bone. Vests should just barely be snug on you and you should leave the last button unbuttoned.

The shirt is where you can choose a color but nothing too loud. Standing out from the crowd because you dressed impeccably well is different than dressing just to stand out. Pick a complementing color in a soft hue rather than a bold bright color. Once again, I must reiterate, keep it simple. This applies to accessories and shoes. You can inject some flare into the look with your tie, jewelry, pocket square, boutonnière, and shoes selection. Classic patterns and prints, like stripes and checks, are best. Do not overload and pile on the accessories. Pops of colors are perfectly fine but keep to a maximum of two. Traditional weddings may limit your choices of what to wear, but it is clearly defined that this is the time to break out your inner Cary Grant. Think along the lines of smooth, suave, and sharp.
CASUAL WEDDINGS: Casual weddings are more relaxed in atmosphere. However do not show up in your casual Friday work outfit because you do not have complete reign of what you can wear. There are a few limitations to this kind of wedding. You are open to more fabric choices like cotton and linens. No tie? Leave the collar unbuttoned or do the air tie. You have the choice to really show your personality here and have more fun. Wear the fun accessories like canvas strap watches. Colors and prints are more accepted. Separates are also another outfit idea because you can wear a blazer and vest with suit trousers. Navy, grey, and beige are safe bets to mix separates with. Accent colors are another way you can liven up your wedding look.

STYLE FILE / THE BOW TIE
There is no doubt the bow tie has been en vogue for the best part of this decade. But one has to question, where did this stylish little neckpiece get its start? Brent Kraus from Ella Bing delves into the bow tie background.
S
ince its introduction and mass acceptance, the bow tie has been on a roller coaster ride and has transcended from stereotypical, purely formal accessory to appearing in ready-
to-wear fashion collections, on the street and even in celebrity wardrobes. It has upstaged time itself and become a classic men’s accessory. Because of its recent resurgence the bow tie has benefited from different looks, breaking the mould it once held as part of traditional formal attire.
WORDS BY BRENT KRAUS
IN THE BEGINNING… The bow tie, not as we know it today,
@ ELLA BING BOW TIES
dates back to the 17th century. The first documented evidence was
WWW.ELLABING.COM
the cravat worn by Croatian soldiers of the Thirty Year War, as they used scarves to bind the collars of their shirts together. After the war, history tells us French soldiers brought the look back home with them, which caught the attention of King George IV. Over a short amount of time and in a strange bizarre and curious twist of fate the cravat evolved into the bow ties and neckties we know today and was widely adopted by the upper class by the 1700s.

STYLE FILE / THE BOW TIE
Men’s neck-wear further evolved in 1886 when Pierre Lorillard created a new approach to men’s formal wear, and wore it to a formal ball held at the Tuxedo club. Named after his family’s estate in Tuxedo Park, just outside of New York City. Lorillard’s new men’s attire, which he properly named, the tuxedo became an instant hit among other wealthy fashion enthusiasts. The term ‘Black Tie’ event can be credited to Lorillard, as the tuxedo and black bow tie quickly replaced the outdated tailcoat and white cravat as the premier formal wear for men’s fashion. By the turn of the century, bow ties were the go-to accessory for “full-dress” attire, due largely to Lorillard’s tuxedo.
THE EVOLUTION… By the 1900s, the bow tie was a fixture in men’s fashion. The bow tie as we know it has gone through a bit of a transformation over the past few decades. As high-profile bow tie connoisseurs have pioneered a movement to redefine the bow tie as we know it. No longer reserved for formal wear, the bow tie has now been worn in ways never intended before. Finding itself as the perfect compliment to tying together a man’s attire. Style icons such as Karl Lagerfeld and Manolo Blahnik, to the quirky deliveries of comedians Charlie Chaplin and Pee-Wee Herman, to the iconic gentlemen of Fred Astaire and Frank Sinatra, to the intellectual charm of Bill Nye and Orville Redenbacher. Through the years the bow tie has found itself as the perfect compliment to a great many influential men.
CROSSING GENDER LINES… The bow tie has long since been embedded in history as strictly a male accessory only. In the 1920s and 30s the bow tie officially crossed gender lines into women’s wear. The look caught the attention of silver screen stars Marlene Dietrich and Katharine Hepburn. This simple accessory paved the way to acceptance for women of the era to not only don the bow tie, but also venture into more men’s attire such as tailored suits, top hats, and button down shirts.

LET’S TIE THE KNOT… The bow tie has seen a bit of a resurgence with weddings, especially with the LGBT crowd. As of late the bow tie in an LGBT wedding has truly proven to allow grooms and brides to show their creative and artistic talents, while still looking dapper and sophisticated and well put together. There was a trend last decade, which saw the bow tie completely disappear from weddings all together, being replaced by it’s brethren the necktie. Thankfully that trend has come and gone, and the bow tie can take it’s rightful place at the head of the table.
INTO THE FUTURE… As the high fashion elite and celebrities such as Johnny Depp, Justin Timberlake, Rihanna, and Janele Monae fuel the resurgence of the bow tie. We take note the bow tie is no longer bounded by the upper class rules of yesteryear. It has been reborn, redefined and redesigned as a stylistically unique piece that is both elegant and adds a bit of flare to both men and women wardrobes. Today the bow tie can be worn in many rousing ways. It is now very ordinary for a man or woman to wear a bow tie in very relaxed and informal settings, tied or untied, with short sleeves or long. Bow ties now come in unique colors, compelling designs, evolving to serve both formal and casual wear. The textiles have advanced far past the once common silk, black bow tie. Today we have a vast array of substances in use, such as exotic woods, leather, turkey feathers and more. Giving people a far greater way to express themselves. As you can see, the bow tie has survived the test of time. From its dominance in the 1800s through the early 20th Century. To its lull and outcast in the mid 20th century. Now to its resurgence and dominance in popular culture and formal wear. In doing so, the bow tie has solidified itself as the most timeless accessory a man or woman can adorn. And has proven it will survive long after we are gone. An accessory that exudes great class and sophistication. When wearing a bow tie a man (or woman) will be amazed by the power it provides him. Men will want to be you, while women will adore you. The bow tie has the ability to take a seemingly boring and non-interesting outfit, and transform it to something that allows a man to elevate his confidence and prowess.

evin and Dusty’s story begins four and a half years ago when they met through mutual friends on Facebook and after going out on their first date they knew that there was an instant connection between them. They got engaged on their four-year anniversary in
Malory Square, Key West, while watching the sunset. Dusty had planned a 3-day camping trip to the Keys, as that is what they did on their first date, and with nerves almost taking over at any moment, he knew he had to wait for just that right moment to propose to Kevin.

Many brides choose to evoke the vintage style of weddings-gone-by with burlap runners, peony-packed mason jars, and mercury glass. Vintage also inspired our shoot, but in a different way. The goal was to bring the timeless silver screen elegance of Old Hollywood into present-day couture, honoring the classic beauty of the 40s while giving it a sophisticated and sensual edge.

SENSUAL & SMOKY-EYED: By recreating the sensual elegance of Old Hollywood combined with a contemporary vision we were able to reinvent two very different vintage looks for the brides of today. One model follows the soft lines of the 40s and is doe-eyed and vulnerable, yet feisty and alluring, while the other is a siren who speaks volumes with every bold, smoky-eyed glance, allowing for all those old fashioned influences of Hollywood to blend seamlessly into modern day chic.
ELEGANT & EVOCATIVE: In keeping with the theme, dresses were selected not only to honor the likes of Grace Kelly, Elizabeth Taylor and Audrey Hepburn, all of whom remain iconic beauties and shining symbols of Old Hollywood glamour, but to also capture and flatter the feminine figure. Enhanced with lace, dĂŠcolletage, and sweeping trains, these stunning gowns are typical of the silhouettes of that era yet are evocative of classic romance.

ACCENTUATE & ACCESSORIZE: We completed the brides looks with a fantastic array of exquisite jewelry and a collection of couture accessories which accentuated the 40s look. ou can almost taste the air of old-world Miami-glam as you take the steps through the grand art deco entrance of Tides South Beach – it’s the kind of boutique hotel you’d expect to find Marilyn Monroe resting her perfectly
coiffed tresses while the Rat Pack slug martinis in the lobby bar. From the rooms through to the restaurant, interiors are tactile, golden and glamorous, with shaggy rugs, travertine floors, smooth terrazzo features, whitewashed driftwood, and, everywhere evokes the feeling that you’re being very spoilt indeed.
