KIWI AND GINGER COCKTAIL

DRINK RECIPE OF THE WEEK
his cocktail is refreshing and perfect for long, hot summer evenings. With spicy ginger beer and a sweet kick of kiwi this cocktail is a perfect summer drink option Ingredients 4 tbsp. icing sugar, Juice of 2 limes, 1 tbsp. freshly grated ginger, 2-3 kiwi fruit (peeled and chopped), Ice cubes, Ginger ale (to taste), Lime wedges and kiwi slices (to serve).
Method Dissolve the icing sugar in 4 tbsps. water in a jug. Add the lime juice and ginger and divide between the glasses. Add the chopped kiwi and ice cubes, then top up with ginger ale, to taste. Decorate the rim of each glass with wedges of lime to squeeze into the drink, and slices of kiwi.

Write the kids a thank-you card not for the gifts, but just for being. After all, you wouldn't be a father without them. Let them meet the secret you. Tell them something about yourself that they've never heard before could be favorite place or a secret dream you had as a kid. Best of all: Do absolutely nothing. Spend a completely unstructured day with the kids doing exactly what they want to do. Ignore the distractions of the phone, email, bills, work, and errands, and focus completely on them. Top off the day with an ice-cream sundae.

fter the first attempt of making the bread tartlets, I made it over and over. I liked it so much that it has already become a regular snack in my home. This dish is one dish that does not limit your creativity. The stuffing can be your own choice of veggies and you can also spice it according to your taste buds. Be creative and have fun. Also this recipe can be easily doubled or tripled.
Ingredients:
(measuring cup used, 1 cup = 250 ml), 6 slices white bread or brown bread - I used small slices of bread, 1 cheese cube (grated or chopped), 1 medium size potato (boiled), 1 small onion (chopped), 1 medium size tomato (chopped), 6 green or black pitted olives, half tsp. mexican chili powder or red chili powder, half tsp. dry basil, half dry oregano, salt as required and some olive oil or sunflower oil or melted butter.
How to make the recipe:
Trim the edges of the bread. Flatten each piece with a rolling pin. Place the bread in a muffin tin. Brush with some oil or melted butter. Secure a piece of crumpled foil on each bread. Bake in a preheated oven at 190 degrees C for 10-12 mins till the breads are crisp and browned. Chop the potato, onion and tomatoes. Remove the muffin tin from the oven and throw away the foil. Arrange the potatoes, tomatoes and onions on the bread. Sprinkle the dry herbs and the chili powder along with some salt. Top up with the grated cheese. Bake again in the oven at 190 degrees C for 3-5 mins till the cheese gets browned. Garnish with fresh sprigs of cilantro or parsley and serve quick bread tartlets.

Pineapple Honey Almond Exfoliating Facial Scrub
he almond oil in this facial scrub is moisturizing, nourishing, and softening. Honey is good for eczema, is anti-inflammatory, treatsacne, is antibacterial, and eliminates wrinkles. Pineapple contains the enzyme bromelain, which is the exfoliating ingredient in the scrub. Fruit acids from pineapple improve circulation and remove dead skin cells as well. You will be getting a lot of benefits from this exfoliating scrub, and your skin will be left smooth. Ingredients: 1 small pineapple, 2 tsp sweet almond oil, 1 tsp honey Directions: Prepare pineapple, Start by cutting of the top and bottom of the fruit. Cut off the skin and eyes leav-
ing only the yellow fruit. Chop it up and pop in the blender on low until you have the consistency of liquid paste. Add in the almond oil followed by honey and blend for 10 seconds. Check consistency - it should not be too runny or too thick. Adjust quantities to get the right consistency. To apply, wet hands under the tap and lightly go over face to slightly dampen the skin. Take 1-2 teaspoons of scrub into your palms, and starting at the base of the neck, begin massaging it in using small circular movements. Apply to the entire face taking care to avoid the delicate eye area. Do this for 5 minutes before rinsing off in tepid water. Finish with a cold water rinse and pat the skin dry. Apply your regular moisturizer or

Guide to Healthy Fasting During Ramadan

on't break your fast with a feast or you may put on weight instead of losing it. If you are not careful, food eaten during the pre-dawn and dusk meals can cause some weight gain. Feasting during the non-fasting hours can be unhealthy. The fast with discipline is an opportunity to lose weight and be healthier could be wasted. The underlying message behind Ramadan is self-discipline and self-control. This shouldn’t fall apart at the end of the day.

Those observing the fast should have at least two meals a day the pre-dawn meal (Suhoor) and a meal at dusk (Iftar). Your food intake should be simple and not differ too much from your normal diet. It should contain foods from all the major food groups: fruit and vegetables bread, cereals and potatoes, meat, fish or alternatives, milk and dairy foods containing fat and sugar
Complex carbohydrates are foods that help release energy slowly during the long hours of fasting. Fibre-rich foods are also digested slowly and include bran, cereals, whole wheat, grains and seeds, potatoes with the skin on, vegetables such as green beans, and almost all fruit, including apricots, prunes and figs.

Foods to avoid are the fast-burning, heavily processed foods that contain refined carbohydrates (sugar and white flour), as well as fatty food (such as cakes, biscuits, chocolates and sweets such as Indian mithai). It's also worth avoiding caffeine-based drinks such as tea, coffee and cola. Caffeine is a diuretic and stimulates faster water loss through urination.
