DINING OUT WITH FRIENDS OR CLIENTS-TIPS By Jesca Kimambo Handle the bills differently with clients vs. friends. If you invite someone to a business lunch or dinner, you pay. That’s protocol. If they invite you, they pay. With friends, the bills should be split, or you can alternate pay each time you meet. Everything should be in moderation. Drinking and eating in moderation is the polite thing to do. Whether you’re with friends or clients, be mindful of how much you consume. Follow the ‘rule of six’ when you want to start eating. If you’re joining a large party (12 or more), you don’t have to wait for everyone to be served before you begin dining. The rule of six dictates that once six people have been served, you can begin eating. In smaller groups, you should wait for everyone to be served before you begin. Your dining companions shouldn’t start eating until you say, “Please go ahead without me.” If your food is undercooked you can send it back while others are enjoying theirs. If dining with people you don’t know, introduce yourself and join in. At weddings, banquets and other celebrations, there are often large tables and lots of empty chairs to choose from. Rather than isolating yourself, have the confidence to sit by someone you don’t know. Simply introduce yourself and ask if you can join them. Stash the electronics. Most people know this, yet they don’t do it. All electronics should be put away during a meal, and only food and utensils belong on the table. Of course, there are exceptions. If your phone rings, say excuse me and then leave the table to take the call in a location that’s more private.

Theatrical makeup Stage makeup is used as a method in conjunction with stage lighting to highlight the actors' faces in order make expressions visible to the audience from moderate distances. This often includes defining the eyes and lips as well as the highlights and lowlights of the facial bones. Special make-up effects (FX makeup)-Prosthetic makeup The use of special effects techniques for enhancing physical features to exhibit metaphysical characteristics as well as fantasy makeup. The use of prosthetics and plaster casting are also required for projects that entail non-human appearances. Accents such as theatrical blood and ooze are also techniques applicable to this type of makeup. Airbrushing The use of an airbrush which is a small air-operated device, that sprays various media including alcohol and water-based makeup by a process of nebulization. The earliest record of this type of cosmetic application dates back to the 1925 film version of Ben-Hur, it has recently been re-popularized by the advent of HDTV and digital photography, where the camera focuses on higher depths of detail. Liquid foundations that are high in coverage but thin in texture are applied with the airbrush for full coverage without a heavy build-up of product. Bridal makeup Bridal makeup is a new segment in a makeup artist's repertoire. From ethnic, to glamorous, to contemporary, makeup artists are now an important part of wedding planning in Asia, Europe, Africa and North America. High definition This is an art which involves the use of light reflectors and ingredients such as minerals to give the skin a flawless finish. This was developed due to the further development of high definition mediums and the cost implications of airbrush makeup.

MASSAGE THERAPY
by Jesca Kimambo
M
assage therapy has a long history in cultures around the world. Today, people use many different types of massage therapy for a variety of health-related purposes. Scientific evidence on massage therapy is limited. Scientists are not yet certain what changes occur in the body during massage, whether they influence health, and, if so, how. According to Kyla massage therapist Dar es Salaam, people use massage for a variety of health-related purposes, including relieve pain, rehabilitate sports injuries, reduce stress, increase relaxation, address anxiety and depression, and aid general wellness. Massage therapists work in a variety of settings, including private offices, hospitals, nursing homes, studios, and sport and fitness facilities. Some also travel to patients' homes or workplaces. They usually try to provide a calm and soothing environment.
DANCING - EFFECTIVE BODY EXERCISES by Jesca Kimambo Are you the type of person that hates to go to the gym? Does the mere thought of having to make you shudder with distaste? Let’s be honest, running isn’t the most exciting exercise. If you are sick of the same boring exercise routines, you should consider taking up dance. It’s a sport that both men and women can enjoy and benefit from. Like other moderate, low-impact, weight bearing activities, such as brisk walking, cycling or aerobics, dancing can help to: • Strengthen bones and muscles without hurting your joints • Tone your entire body • Improve your posture and balance, which can prevent falls • Increase your stamina and flexibility • Reduce stress and tension • Build confidence • Provide opportunities to meet people • Ward off illnesses like diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, osteoporosis, and depression
Therapists usually ask new patients about symptoms, medical history, and desired results. They may also perform an evaluation through touch, to locate painful or tense areas and determine how much pressure to apply. Typically, the patient lies on a table, either in loose-fitting clothing or undressed (covered with a sheet, except for the area being massaged). The therapist may use oil or lotion to reduce friction on the skin. Sometimes, people receive massage therapy while sitting in a chair. A massage session may be fairly brief, but may also last an hour or even longer. kaylamassagesandfacials@gmail.com

UNIQUENESS
OF OLDUVAI GORGE
{
Setting your foot where perhaps the first known mankind once roamed is intriguing enough
}
I
by Jesca Kimambo t is located in the heart of the Great Rift Valley, the Olduvai Gorge is a steep-sided ravine that stretches approximately 48 km and is widely considered to be the most important prehistoric site in the world. In fact, it’s been nicknamed “the Cradle of Mankind” due to the incredible and abundant prehistoric archeological finds discovered there. But you don’t have to be an archeologist or genealogist to enjoy a visit to this fascinating site. Just the idea of setting foot where perhaps the first known humans once roamed is intriguing enough. About 50 years ago, German entomologist Wilhelm Kattwinkel was hot in pursuit of a butterfly in the area of Tanganyika when he tripped and fell over a rocky ledge into what’s now known as the Olduvai Gorge, discovering an eroded landscape littered with bones, fossils and ancient artifacts which is now the most important evidence of mankind’s earliest existence. Bed I is the earliest deposit, and has revealed evidence of prehistoric life, from campsites to stone tools. What’s most interesting about the
bones found in this layer are that they are of primitive hominids. In bed II, more sophisticated tools such as handaxes were uncovered with an estimated age of around 1.75 to 1.2 million years old. Beds III and IV held fossil bones and Acheulean tools from nearly 600,000 years ago and the higher beds, known as Masek, Ndutu and Naisiusiu Beds, respectively, showed the progress of evolution in humans, the tools they made and their way of life. One of the best features of the Olduvai Gorge is the museum which is located right along the rim. It presents fascinating samples of both the history of the Gorge and all of the incredible discoveries that have been made there.

BOOK REVIEW
PARADISE OF THE PACIFIC The visitors who transformed Hawaii
O
ne of the most rewarding aspects of travel can happen before we leave home: reading about our destination. While a good guidebook is indispensible, a history can do much to enrich our understanding of the place and people we are about to meet. Such is the case with Susanna Moore’s vibrant new book, Paradise of the Pacific: Approaching Hawaii. A novelist (The Life of Objects) who has also written a memoir about growing up in the 50th state (I Myself Have Seen It), Moore brings considerable storytelling skills to her subject. She sees the history of the Hawaiian Islands as “a story of arrivals,” one that encompasses not only flora and fauna blown by the winds but early Polynesian travelers, explorers, missionaries and whalers. Moore focuses most intensively on the often heartbreaking clashes that arose when native Hawaiians came in contact with Europeans, beginning with Captain Cook’s
16 www.primeadvertising.com |
landing in 1778. For the native people of Hawaii, foreigners became “the source of the darkness that made darkness.” It took a little more than a century for this isolated, structured society to undergo profound cultural and social transformations that had a devastating impact. As Moore notes, “the Hawaiian people, thanks to the introduction of diseases to which they had no immunity, and an encompassing melancholia that overtook them with the loss of their culture, came close to disappearing as a race.” While Moore’s book does not extend to present day, it will likely make readers curious to find out more, which is just as it should be. “The task of understanding the past is never-ending,” she writes. Paradise of the Pacific reminds us that beyond Hawaii’s beautiful beaches lies a complex, multi-layered history we can only begin to appreciate.

It's the end of the world. A flood is coming. Luckily for Dave and his son Finny, a couple of clumsy Nestrians, an Ark has been built to save all animals. But as it turns out, Nestrians aren't allowed. Sneaking on board with the involuntary help of Hazel and her daughter Leah, two Grymps, they think they're safe. Until the curious kids fall off the Ark. Now Finny and Leah struggle to survive the flood and hungry predators and attempt to reach the top of a mountain, while Dave and Hazel must put aside their differences, turn the Ark around and save their kids. It's definitely not going to be smooth sailing.
