Mini-Party Planning

The Weekly Drink Recipe

THE MANHATTAN

50ml rye whiskey, 25ml sweet vermouth 1 to 2 drops of Angostura bitters, 1 lemon, some maraschino cherries and some ice Procedure Chill the glass. Put some ice in the cocktail glass to cool it. Pour the rye whiskey into the mixing glass. Add the sweet vermouth. Add 1 or 2 drops of bitters to the mixing glass. You can also add some orange peel into the mix for a little extra zest. Fill the mixing glass with ice. Stir the contents thoroughly, until condensation appears on the side of the mixing glass. Dump the ice out of the martini glass. Strain the mixture into the martini glass. Garnish.

To garnish, run a lemon twist around the lip of the glass and drop it in, then add a couple of maraschino cherrie on a cocktail stick. Serve. The Manhattan is now ready to serve.

2.Bourbon whiskey version, this recipe is for two:

Bourbon - Choose high quality bourbon such as Maker's Mark. Alternatively, Jack Daniels or Jim Beam, Wiser's, Crown Royal or Canadian Club, Sweet dark vermouth, Grenadine or maraschino cherry juice, Maraschino cherries, Angostura bitters and some ice.

Procedure: Chill the glasses by placing them in the freezer or by filling them with ice. Fill the shaker with ice. Add three shots of bourbon. Add 1-1.5 shots of sweet vermouth. Add a splash of grenadine or maraschino cherry juice. Shake well. Prepare the glasses. Place one or two maraschino cherries in each glass, and then add a few dashes of Angostura bitters. Pour the drinks into the glasses. Enjoy! Page

P

arty planning is nothing big. Whenever we hear the word “PARTY”, we go haywire but you can plan a mini-party at minimal cost and enjoy yourself. This is how you can plan such a party. ◊ Find a location to help plan ahead of time. With friends, figure out where you want to go, so that you can plan arrangements and make all the necessary preparations. ◊ Get permission. If you live with somebody else, such as your parents, friends, or significant others, you might want to ask them before planning a party at your place. ◊ Pick specifics in advance; ask the basic questions

Who, What, Where, When and Why are we doing this. ◊ Make invitations. Hand-make these or use a computer. Figure out a theme, if any, for your miniature party, and use the appropriate wording, pictures, font, background, etc ◊ Invite friends. The maximum limit is six. This is a small party. ◊ Buy refreshments. Make sure you have food and beverages everybody can enjoy. Know your guests' dietary needs ahead of time. ◊ Organized the entertainment. For smaller parties, focus on inexpensive entertainment.

GETTING RID OF SUNDAY BLUES You know that tingling feeling you get in your toes on Friday afternoon. You shut down everything to get ready for 48hrs ahead. Then Sunday afternoon sets in and you feel this sinking feeling in your stomach. You can’t stop thinking and dreading the fact that the next day is a working day. This is called Sunday Blues.

SU B ND L U AY E S

1. Rye whiskey version, this recipe serves one:

Here are a few tips to make sure the Sunday blues don’t cut your weekend short. ● Make time for yourself. Try to leave some time for yourself at the end of the weekend. ● Take a break from technology. You may not be able (or willing) to disconnect completely, but putting away your cell phone and laptop and taking a few hours to separate yourself from technology. ● Plan an event to look up to over the weekend. Instead of letting your weekend end abruptly on Sunday night, give yourself something to look forward to early in the week. ● Enjoy the hours you have. You’ll allow yourself some extra hours to attack chores and errands, leaving you with plenty of time to truly enjoy the time you have left. ●Prepare for Monday on Friday. Clean out your inbox, make any urgent calls, and tie up your loose ends before you leave the office on Friday.

LEGGINGS Leggings are warm, soft and forgiving. Don’t you wish you could, live in them? We’ve got some seriously good news: You don’t actually have to relegate this loungewear favorite to Saturday mornings. With a couple of quick updates and a few styling tips, you can wear the world’s most comfortable garment all day, every day

1.On the Weekend You can get leggings that is not a painfully compressing shapewear garment yet has a wide waistband that stays snugly in place while smoothing out any lumps or bumps. Add a lightweight turtleneck as an underpinning, and wrap it all up in a warm eye-catching cape. Flat, over-the-knee boots brings out a classic look.

2.To the Office A high-quality fabric with tailored details (pockets, seams, embellishments) and an unexpectedly sophisticated color (like a deep shade of green) lend structure that helps strike the perfect balance between a legging and a pant. To keep the look office-appropriate, opt for more traditional pieces to complete the outfit, like a collared blouse and refined pumps.

3.Out for the Evening Leggings toe the line between tights and pants, making them the ideal foundation for an elegant look. To further elevate this look, skip cotton and opt for dressier textures, like leather to add a cocktail-appropriate feel.

ive a girl the right shoes, and she can conquer the world. But first, the girl must conquer the shoes. Wearing heels adds an element of class to your outfit, yet, being able to walk in them is a major plus. Here are a couple of tips on how to walk in heels. 1.Make Sure They Fit You see a gorgeous pair of shoes on sales and it is half size bigger or too small. Pick heels that fit snuggly but comfortably. They shouldn’t move around on your feet at all, but they also shouldn’t pinch and have an arch that lines up with your feet for maximum support. 2.Watch Your Walk If you don’t wear a heel above one inch on the regular, the actual mechanics of taking steps can feel a little confusing, but the truth is there’s nothing to it. Resist the urge to walk in a “special” way or to want to put your whole foot down at once. Take steps as normal, landing on your heel first and rocking forward onto the ball of your feet. This eases the amount of shock the front of your foot has to absorb, and it also creates a natural, comfortable-in-heels gait. 3.Keep Your Posture Straight A potential pitfall is turning your footwear into a full-body issue. Heels shift your balance forward, and it’s natural to try to correct by leaning back. But, this looks strange and creates even weirder posture. Until you feel comfortable in them, heels will slow you down, in which case it’s tempting to lean forward to try to speed up. If you feel your balance shifting above your waist, engage your core to straighten to a normal posture. Practice makes perfect. The more you walk, the better you get.

WARM-UP AND STRETCHING

T

here is an important difference between warm-up and stretching. Many people stretch and call it warm-up. This is incorrect. It is important to warm-up before stretching. If one stretches the muscles without prior warm-up, the muscles are cold and are more prone to injury, such as muscle tear or strain. Before exercising, begin with a warm-up period to raise the body temperature. This will get the heart pumping and increase blood flow to the muscles before stretching. Slow running in place, a slow aerobic dance, or a walk-jog (all with ball), and the application of an external exercise rub, is an ideal warmup regimen to help prepare the muscles for stretching.

S

ome people have the mentality that to lose weight you have to starve yourself, but that is not the case. When you are trying to stay healthy, breakfast is the most important meal of the day because it kick-starts your metabolism. Metabolism involves every process that goes on in your body, but it most often refers to the conversion of food into energy for immediate use or fat for storage. Eating breakfast increases your metabolism and can help maintain a healthy weight. The keys to ensuring that your body’s metabolism is running as efficiently as possible are exercise, eating at regular intervals and staying hydrated. Consuming a well-balanced, whole-foods diet with at least 150 minutes of exercise per week and drinking plenty of water will provide you with the nourishment you need to have an effective metabolism and a healthy body. RUAHA NATIONAL PARK

R

Annoying Passengers on Your Flight

uaha National Park is one of the few Tanzania’s famous wilderness area where one can have a rare experience of game viewing spiced up by the fascinating landscape. Located at the heart of Tanzania, Ruaha is the 'other park' on the Southern circuit. Ruaha's relative inaccessibility means it gets far fewer tourists than the Selous and less than any comparable park in the Northern circuit. The rewards of travelling this far are a wild landscape with baobab studded hills and rocky escarpments, with superb wildlife; Ruaha has reliably exciting predator concentrations, huge elephant and buffalo herds and a crossover of game from southern and Eastern Africa. Tanzania's largest National Park, Ruaha is a wilder and more remote park than its southern neighbor Selous Game Reserve, and ultimately has the better wildlife, albeit without boating safaris. We love this park! The park is rich of plants and animals such as Greater Kudu (Tragelaphus strepsiceros) which cannot be found in any other national park. The park boasts of her almost untouched and unexplored ecosystem, making visitors’ safari experience very unique. The Great Ruaha River as other rivers like Mwagusi, Jongomero and Mzombe save as the life line of the park. During dry season, these rivers become mostly the main source of water for wildlife. There are few natural springs saving the same purpose. In the pick of dry season, elephants obtain water from dry sand rivers using their front feet and trunks. The remaining water falls along the Great Ruaha River are also important habitat for hippopotamus, fish and crocodiles.

TRAVEL SCAMS

You are excited and all packed for your trip. But in the midst of your vacation bliss, don't forget that there could be criminals who want to take advantage of unsuspecting, unguarded tourists. Having knowledge about most of the common travel scams thieves can help you avoid any mishaps that could ruin your trip. Here are the most common travel scams. 1.Puncturing tyres 2.False Petitions 3.Fake Entry Fees 4.Impersonating Police officers 5.Counterfeit Money 6.Distraction Scams 7.Extortionate Bills 8.Phony Taxi Drivers It’s easy to get carried away by the romance and enthusiasm of travelling but remember to be cautious; it can prevent you from being taken for a ride.

There are certain behaviors people bring aboard a flight that makes them so annoying sometimes. Eventually, you begin to laugh when you sit back and start to recollect. Here are a couple of behaviors that irritate people in-flight: 1.Rear Seat Kicker 2.Inattentive Parents 3.The Aromatic Passenger 4.The Audio Insensitive (talking or music) 5.The Boozer 6.Chatty Cathy 7.Carry-On Baggage Offenders 8.The Queue Jumper (rushes to deplane) 9.Seat-Back Guy 10.Overhead Bin Inconsiderate (stows bag in first available spot, rather than nearest to his/her seat) 11.Pungent Foodies 12.Back Seat Grabber 13.The Amorous (inappropriate affection levels) 14.Undresser (removes shoes, socks or more) 15.Mad Bladder (window seat passenger who makes repeat bathroom visits) 16.The Single and Ready to Mingle 17.The Seat Switcher Respecting our fellow passengers is a small but important gift we can all give each other.
