New player teams with trusted name

Despite being a new name in the market, Pipeline Equipment Rentals continues to cement its status as a major player in the industry having become the sole official distributor of special purpose equipment supplier SCAIP.

Pipeline Equipment Rentals (PER) is a newly formed specialist provider of pipeline construction equipment. Founded in 2020, the company offers an extensive product range from some of the world’s most respected suppliers, backed by expert personnel who carry a strong passion for the machinery they work with.

To expand its portfolio, PER has recently become the official Australian distributor of the SCAIP range of pipeline construction and agricultural equipment. Operating out of Italy and having built custom machinery for the pipeline industry since 1959, SCAIP is a familyowned original equipment manufacturer that has made its mark on the Australian industrial landscape over many years.

Originally founded as a mechanical workshop for agricultural machinery, SCAIP began to specialise in the design and manufacture of pipeline construction machinery in the 1980s. Over time, SCAIP’s line-up of equipment has been perfected through modifications based on consumer feedback.

A new opportunity

“In 2020, we found out the relationship between the Italian factory and the American distributor had come to an end, leaving Australia without a local importer as well as without a local supplier of spare parts and technical support provider,” says PER Business Development Manager Fabio Resimini.

“We decided it was the perfect time to see if the Italian factory was interested in keeping their presence in Australia through an official distributorship, and the rest is history.”

Mr Remini is a mechanical engineer with more than a decade of experience in the pipeline industry and an inaugural member of the PER team.

Before the company became sole distributor, Mr Resimini was well acquainted with SCAIP products when the brand was managed by an American company and marketed under the Superior Manufacturing name in Australia.

“We researched the products, ran some investigations and found that the Italian factory was producing some of the best pipeline specific equipment in the world,” he explains.

The Superior Manufacturing brand was replaced in favour of SCAIP in 2016.

“We ended up purchasing some pipe layers, bending machines, vacuum lifts and padding machines over the years, growing our know-how of the brand and of the equipment while developing our relationship with the factory in regards to Australia’s specific needs.”

Eventually the company began putting together what is now the biggest fleet of SCAIP equipment in Australia.

“We had been using, servicing and maintaining SCAIP’s products for many years: we knew them intimately.”

Within the PER team, operators have up to 10 years of experience with the Italian manufacturer from previous companies, making PER a natural choice for sole distributor.

Mr Resimini explains that the SCAIP name is superior to other suppliers both in range and in its specific tailoring to the Australian market.

“There are some competitors out there on the market, but none of them offers such a wide range of efficient, purpose-built machines.”

With 60 years of experience, SCAIP machines are recognised for having the most advanced technology in the industry.

Australia, which is why they are so widely used by most, if not all, pipeline construction companies in our country. These are special purpose machines built to do their job in the most efficient and safe way possible while providing an ergonomic station for the operator.”

PER began distributing SCAIP in the early months of 2021 after penning an agreement that recognised the company as the sole official distributor of SCAIP products in the country.

“It was a big step for PER to take on the distributorship agreement: we are a young company and relatively small, but now our range of offerings in the pipeline construction industry is comprehensive,” says Mr Resimini.

PER now provides equipment hire and sales, technical and mechanical support, and the provision of spare parts for all SCAIP products. SCAIP equipment is not only suitable for pipeline construction but also for mining, drilling and renewable energy industry applications.

“We wanted to ensure a steady supply of spare parts for all the machines in the country: no distributor meant the owners of Superior equipment had to ask the factory directly for support and parts. Now they can come to us knowing we will do our best to offer a timely and efficient service, which is why we are building a good stock of spare parts for all the models currently known to be in Australia.”

“Partnership and innovation are central to everything we do: we listen to our clients’ needs and expectations and we work with them to achieve their targets,” says Mr Resimini.
