Design Statement
Revit is a powerful tool, the fact that everything changes if you make an adjustment is very useful and I found myself using a lot of the tools to help myself navigate through Revit, at first it was very intimidating, however, watching many videos and following lectures really helped. To start with, there are not very many options for walls, and floors, however, there are many furniture options which allowed me to furnish my space but when I went to render in Lumion I had to place new furniture down since it would not let me render the original furniture that was already placed. Downloading the furniture was very difficult at first and there had seemed to be many hidden things but eventually, we figured it out. The video tutorials helped me a lot in understanding the basic features and for more advanced features I searched them up to achieve the complex design I have created. All the elements in the main architecture tab were easy to use however, I did sometimes bump into some issues, when walls would overlap or if I had a slanted wall, sometimes things did not align properly, however, I could edit boundary/profile and easily fix it. A lot of the issues were simple to fix, however; I did not realise it at the time, but I got used to it very quickly. The visibility and graphics button in the project browser was utilised a lot to hide things I was no longer using. I did not use grids as much in my design as I felt as though they kept coming in the way and they did not fit properly with my design. The levels were straightforward to navigate, however, at times. They rotated in a weird angle and did not align with the other levels. Drawing up the detailed section was very easy, and I used the annotate then region tool to highlight and hatch the important materials, however, I found a lot of my detailed sections were very similar to each other, but I provided different detailed sections to both of my main sections. Importing and exporting models was very easy, however, I went back and forth a lot as there were minor problems that I noticed so I went to amend them. The exploded axonometric was very easy to do as well, however, I found it difficult to decide the placement of the exploded pieces as my building had so many layers to it. I hid the furniture as it would not look right for the exploded drawing. Using annotation labels for a lot of my work made the work clearer and easier to understand and navigate. I did have a bit of trouble with the phasing techniques as I was unsure of how to navigate it, but I managed to gather a lot of past work to use as development which clearly showed the process of how my elevations, 3D model and floorplan has developed in Revit to the final piece.
