December 2013 Dear Friends of Princeton Day School Hockey, With the faculty, families, students, and trustees of Princeton Day School, I want to share our excitement at hosting once again the annual Harry Rulon-Miller ’51 Invitational Ice Hockey Tournament at Princeton Day School, the surest sign of the start of a very busy winter athletic season on our campus. During the long, successful run of both tournaments (44 years for boys; 24 years for girls), Princeton Day School has welcomed to its campus the finest independent boarding and day school ice hockey programs, as its Lisa McGraw ’44 Rink has witnessed one stirring, memorable contest after another. I am confident this year’s contests will add to its lore and luster. Named last year in honor of tournament director Harry-Rulon Miller ’51, to recognize Harry’s lifetime of service to Princeton Day School, this year’s edition promises something for every hockey fan, and we look forward to welcoming new and old friends for a weekend of outstanding hockey action. As for Harry, he has prepared us as well and fully as ever, and we are proud of his long, distinguished service as our school’s official hockey ambassador. Thank you for being part of an outstanding winter tradition that has captured the spirit of our great school, and showcases players whose skill and commitment are in evidence from the first whistle to the crowning of this year’s champions. I look forward to sharing this event with you; and I hope and trust this tournament will become for you – as it has for me – the most anticipated event of the winter season. Sincerely,
Paul J. Stellato Head of School

INVITATIONAL at PRINCETON DAY SCHOOL
PROCEDURES
• All games will be played at the Lisa McGraw ’44 Rink at Princeton Day School. • The tournament will follow National Federation rules. Fifteen-minute periods will be played. The tie-breaker procedure for First round games will be as follows: One 5 minute “sudden death” period will be played with four skaters and a goal tender on each team. If the game is still tied, there will be one, 5-man shoot out (with no player shooting more than once). If no winner has been determined, single shootouts will continue until a winner has been decided. The team to shoot first is to be decided by a coin toss prior to the beginning of the shoot out. The consolation will have no tiebreaker. If the championship game is tied, a 10-minute “sudden death” overtime period will be played. If still tied, four on four will be played until a winner is determined. • Following each final round game, a sportsmanship award, named in memory of Christopher Reeve ’70, will be awarded to one member of each team. Immediately following each championship final, Championship and Runner-up trophies will be awarded. • Skate sharpening will be available at the rink. • Food is available at the rink for players, managers and coaches.
