Summer Programs
at PRINCETON DAY SCHOOL
Welcome to another exciting summer at Princeton Day School Summer Programs! Our camps run from June 8th and finish with Wrap Up Camp on August 7th. During those weeks our campus will be teeming with scientists conducting experiments, sculptors working with clay, actors rehearsing their lines, tennis players perfecting their serves and writers polishing their essays. These and numerous other activities are designed to engage our campers in a fun-filled summer! Everyone is welcome to attend PDS Summer Programs, campers do not have to be Princeton Day School students. Check our website, www.pds.org/summer-programs for the most up-to-date camp information. Please choose programs according to the grade your child will enter in fall 2020. Sign up today to experience the uniqueness of our camps. Pre-Camp and Extended Day Care Program We offer a Pre-Camp option beginning at 7:30am, and an extended day recreational program until 5:30pm. Campers will have use of our gym and playground, board games and other fun activities. Lunch and Snacks Snacks and lunch are available in our Campus Center. Morning only campers may stay for lunch and will be dismissed at 12:05pm for pick up. Lunch is available to afternoon campers at 11:30am (before their program begins). All camps break for snack at 10:00am and 1:30pm. Campers may bring their lunch and snacks from home or purchase from the menu at PDS.

Summer Programs at Princeton Day School is an American Camp Association (ACA) accredited program held accountable for up to 300 standards that include and go beyond state licensing.

2020 New Programs In the Mix – DJ Camp
Puppetry & Storytelling
Are you into music? Do you want to experience and learn what DJ’s do to rock parties all over the word? Come join in the fun at In the Mix – DJ Camp, where you will learn the skills of one of the coolest career/hobbies. In just a week, campers will learn the skills that are essential to a beginning DJ, including the history of song structure, beat mixing, equipment set-up, basic scratching and DJ technology. At the end of the session the camper will have the knowledge and tools to perform an awesome DJ set in front of the class that will have you tapping your feet and dancing! This is led by PDS’ own Darius Young, aka DJ Darius the 1st! A local legend who DJs many local clubs, parties and can be heard rocking out Princeton University football and basketball games. All levels are welcome, don’t miss this amazing opportunity! Grades 5–8, maximum 10
Campers will listen to stories and then make several types of puppets related to the stories. Puppets will be made from popsicle sticks, socks, recycled materials and more! Stories may include themes like Reluctant Dragon, Beauty and the Beast or Dinosaurs after Dark. Puppetry and storytelling are wonderful ways to reengage campers’ imagination through self-expression.
Summertime Yoga Come spend the morning practicing authentic yoga techniques to energize you then practice relaxation during your summer break. The first part of our session will be focused around physical poses which increase strength, flexibility and mind-body coordination. The last half of our daily session will be focused around relaxation, reflection and yoga-inspired projects revolving around mindfulness and boosting a positive self-image. Sessions will be led by Ann Robideaux, founder of Asana Alphabet Yoga and PDS’ home dance and yoga teacher. Please wear comfortable clothing that is easy to move in. We have yoga mats on site or feel free to bring your own. Grades 2–5 Journal Writing Creativity, self-expression, written word, art, imagination are the palette you will use to author your own journal-but there’s a twist! Each student will receive suggested themes & an identical blank sketchbook/journal to create. We will start the creative process here with pens, markers, paints, sparkles, etc. then you will take it with you & finish by a specific deadline. When you feel your sketchbook/journal is all that it can be, you will mail it away to be catalogued. Then it will take a journey on a book tour where curious people can read it before it settles into a little library where it will stay waiting to be checked out and read! Grades 5–8

Architecture Would you like to see your ideas turn into threedimensional buildings? Do you have a vision for a future city or community that you want to build? Is there a structure in our world that you would like to recreate? In this class, you will learn about fundamental design and building strategies to make your ideas come to life. In this non-digital, all analog and hands on project based learning class, you can build homes, offices, buildings, schools, hospitals, sports arenas, shopping malls and so much more! We will use LEGOs, blocks, sticks, cardboard and more tangible items to design and build our very own creations. Grades 4–6 Bridges & Towers This program will allow campers to express their creativity and satisfy their desire to build and experiment. Students will learn the basics of architecture as they experience the joy of building and testing their very own bridges and towers! We will use a variety of materials such as paper, bass and balsa wood. No prior experience is necessary, as we will guide them from start to finish. Campers will learn the building and designing process, and apply it to create bridges/towers. Every day they will challenge themselves and compete with their group in a fun, friendly and supportive environment. Grades 2–5 Theater Acting In this introduction class, you will learn theater techniques such as vocal projection, physical presence and embodying characters on stage. Through acting, you will develop selfconfidence, creative insight and the ability to engage with the audience. Short plays will be rehearsed and performed. Grades 5–8
Is your child a future lawmaker? Mock Congress will give them a glimpse of their future. This class will simulate the United States Congress. Campers will take on the role of individual lawmakers. They will research contemporary issues and challenges, craft legislation, discuss and debate resolutions, and ultimately vote on bills. This program will focus on politics, debate, and public policy. Grades 5–8 Model UN Campers will have the opportunity to interact with real world issues in the Model UN program. They will take on the role of UN representatives and research global events and trends. They will explore and craft different solutions to these issues, then learn leadership skills while they negotiate with representatives who may have a different perspective. Campers will gain an understanding of modern world events and how nations work together in this engaging simulation. Grades 5–8
Clay Oven Cooking Cook outside in the PDS clay oven using fresh food and eggs from the garden and chickens, as well as baking breads, pies and desserts. The emphasis will be the use of the clay oven and we’ll even try our hand cooking over an open fire. Students will learn to use appropriate cooking tools and materials. Lots of good food and fun. Grades 3–5 PDS Escape Room Campers decipher puzzles and take on challenges while working in groups to develop problem-solving skills. By collaborating with one another, they will build trust and confidence through working together to “win” their challenge. Each escape room challenge will feature a historical period with a new one presented each day. At the end of the class, they will reflect on the experience and talk about the pros and cons of their group’s decisions as well as their individual efforts. This program enhances analytical thinking, resilience and teamwork. Grades 5–8 It’s Back!! Out of Your Element High Ropes Our newly built state-of-the-art High Ropes course is finished and ready for climbers of all ability levels! We will have a beginner and intermediate course in the afternoon of weeks June 15 – June 19, June 22 - June 26 and July 6 – July 10. Have experience on a ropes courses? Then morning classes of the same weeks are available to you! A student facilitator course is open to rising 9th – 12 graders. Join us for a fun-filled week on our new ropes course! Grades 3–12
