The Church Gathers Pre-Service Music Canción y Danza #8 Mompou Words of Welcome The Peace The peace of the Lord be with you. And also with you. Call to Worship Creator of all that is and all that will be, we your children come before you now. We are tired. We are worn. Our hearts are heavy. Let us see redemption win. Let us know the struggle ends. That in the midst of what seems unsalvageable, you can mend a heart that’s frail and torn. We want to know a song can rise from the ashes of a broken life. And all that’s dead inside can be reborn. We are worn. We know we need to lift our eyes up, but we are tired. Life just won’t let up. We know that you can give us rest, so we call out with all that is left. Let us see redemption win. Let us know the struggle ends. That you can mend a heart that’s frail and torn. Heaven, come and flood our eyes. Lord, come and flood our eyes. Amen. {adapted from “Worn” by Tenth Avenue North} Hymn Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing UMH #400 Come, thou Fount of every blessing, tune my heart to sing thy grace; streams of mercy, never ceasing, call for songs of loudest praise. Teach me some melodious sonnet, sung by flaming tongues above. Praise the mount! I'm fixed upon it, mount of thy redeeming love. Here I raise mine Ebenezer; hither by thy help I'm come; and I hope, by thy good pleasure, safely to arrive at home. Jesus sought me when a stranger, wandering from the fold of God; he, to rescue me from danger, interposed his precious blood. O to grace how great a debtor daily I'm constrained to be! Let thy goodness, like a fetter, bind my wandering heart to thee. Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it, prone to leave the God I love; here's my heart, O take and seal it, seal it for thy courts above. Prayer of Confession O God of shalom, We confess that our hearts are uneasy. We have built up walls to protect ourselves, to keep ourselves from falling apart. But in building these walls, we have blocked our hearts off – from others, from ourselves, and from You. {pause and take a breath} O Christ our Savior, In our pain and in our despair, help us not forget your words that are etched on our hearts – “My God! My God! What, have you forgotten me?” As we remember what we have lost, give us the physical, mental, and emotional space to grieve. Help us remember that You have never left our sides. {pause and take a breath}

O Spirit who intercedes for us when groans cannot express our thoughts, Restore to us the words of life to articulate our thoughts and feelings to You once again. Lead us and guide us as we take a step into this river of forgiveness and begin this journey, knowing that we are not alone. {pause and take a breath}

Whether we need to forgive ourselves, forgive others, or even forgive You, Intercede. Grant us clarity. Grant us peace. {pause and take a breath} Words of Assurance Hear the good news – when we feel like we are in the deepest pit, God promises, “I will never forget you. I have inscribed you on the palm of my hand” (Isaiah 49:15-16). On mountaintops and in valleys, in our hopes and in our hearts, God knows us better than we know ourselves. God forgives us when we cannot forgive ourselves. In the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! In the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! Thanks be to God! Amen. {modified from prayers of Nolan Palsma and Terry Stokes}

Sung Response Fill My Cup Lord Fill my cup, Lord, I lift it up, Lord. Come and quench this thirsting of my soul. Bread of heaven, feed me till I want no more; fill my cup, fill it up, and make me whole.

To Respond in Faith Reception of New Members People of Princeton UMC will you please rise (in body or spirit, if it's difficult for you to stand physically). Will you nurture one another in the Christian faith and life and include this person now before you in your care, supporting and encouraging him in his Christian life? With God's help we will proclaim the good news and live according to the example of Christ. We will surround this person with a community of love and forgiveness, that he may grow in their trust of God, and be found faithful in his service to others. We will pray for him, that he may be a true disciple who walks in the way that leads to life. Let us join together in professing the Christian faith as contained in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments. Do you believe in God the Father? I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. Do you believe in Jesus Christ? I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, is seated at the right hand of the Father, and will come again to judge the living and the dead. Do you believe in the Holy Spirit? I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. Brothers and sisters, I commend to your love and care Samaila, whom we this day receive into the membership of Princeton United Methodist Church. Do all in your power to increase his faith, confirm his hope, and perfect him in love.

We give thanks for all that God has already given you and we welcome you in Christian love. As members together with you in the body of Christ and in Princeton United Methodist Church, we renew our covenant faithfully to participate in the ministries of the church by our prayers, our presence, our gifts, our service, and our witness, that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. Prayers of the People The Lord’s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Your kingdom come; your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever. Amen. Sign-in and Connect! And Scatter To Be in the World Hymn This is My Father’s World This is my Father's world, and to my listening ears all nature sings, and round me rings the music of the spheres. This is my Father's world: I rest me in the thought of rocks and trees, of skies and seas; his hand the wonders wrought.

UMH #144

This is my Father's world, the birds their carols raise, the morning light, the lily white, declare their maker's praise. This is my Father's world: he shines in all that's fair; in the rustling grass, I hear him pass; he speaks to me everywhere.

This is my Father's world. O let me never forget that though the wrong seems oft so strong, God is the ruler yet. This is my Father's world: why should my heart be sad? The Lord is King; let the heavens ring! God reigns; let the earth be glad! Benediction Postlude A l'écol

Sundays in Lent | 9:15 am

Join us, this season of Lent, as we read and discuss Forgiveness, the Passionate Journey by Flora Slosson Wuellner. Led by KUMC congregant and Princeton Theological Seminary professor Fred Simmons, the group will run from 9:15 am-10 am on Sunday mornings from 3/6/22-4/10/22. Here is the Zoom link to join. All are welcome.

Supporting the People of Ukraine The United Methodist community in Ukraine, though quite small, is actively engaged in assisting neighbors in need. Global Ministries is in touch with the church’s leadership as well as with church leaders in countries welcoming those who are fleeing from violence in Ukraine. The best route to support these crisis relief ministries is through UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief). You can write a check and put it in the offering plate or mail your contribution to the church office. You can also give at princetonumc.org/givepumc. Please designate UMCOR Advance #982450-Ukraine in the online comment field or check memo line.

Ordering Palms for Palm Sunday We will be decorating the church with potted palms to enhance the beauty of our altar for Palm Sunday. Orders are due on April 3rd. Order online or contact tyler@princetonumc.org for more information.

Terracycle Program As more of us are coming to in-person worship, we want to invite you to contribute to our Terracycle donation bins, now located downstairs, just outside of the Fellowship Hall.
