based on Lamentations 1:12

Go to Dark Gethsemane (vs. 1-2)

UMH #290

Prayer of Confession & Intercession Response: Lord, have mercy. Scripture Sentences God so loved the world that God gave God's only son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. Christ also died for our sins once and for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God. God did not spare God's own son but gave him up for us all. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends. Hymn

What Wondrous Love is This (vs. 1,3)

UMH #292

The First Word The high priest tore his clothes and said, "He has blasphemed! Why do we still need witnesses? You have now heard his blasphemy. What is your verdict?" They answered, “He deserves death.” Then they spat in his face and struck him; and some slapped him, saying, “Prophesy to us, you Messiah! Who is it that struck you?” "Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do." Hymn

Ah, Holy Jesus (vs. 1-2)

UMH #289

The Second Word When it was noon, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon. At three o'clock Jesus cried out with a loud voice, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" When some of the bystanders heard it, they said, "Listen, he is calling for Elijah." Hymn

Jesus, Keep Me Near the Cross (vs. 1-2)

UMH #301

The Third Word When the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they took his clothes and divided them into four parts, one for each soldier. Meanwhile, standing near the cross of Jesus were his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing beside her, he said to his mother, "Woman, behold your son!" Then he said to the disciple, "Here is your mother." Hymn

Beneath the Cross of Jesus (vs. 1-2)

UMH #297

The Fourth Word When Jesus knew that all was now finished, he said in order to fulfill the scripture, "I am thirsty." Hymn

Jesus, When I Survey the Wondrous Cross (vs. 1-2)

UMH #298

The Fifth Word One of the criminals who were hanged there kept deriding him and saying "Are you not the Messiah? Save yourself and us!" But the other rebuked him, saying, "Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? And we indeed have been condemned justly, for we are getting what we deserve for our deeds, but this man has done nothing wrong." Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom." He replied, "Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise." Hymn

Jesus, When I Survey the Wondrous Cross (vs. 3-4)

UMH #299

The Sixth Word Father, into your hands I commend my spirit." Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. The earth shook, and the rocks were split. Now when the centurion, who stood facing him, saw that in this way he said, "Truly this man was God's Son!" Hymn

Were You There (vs. 1-2)

UMH #288

The Seventh Word “It is finished.” The Lord’s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come; your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever. Amen. Closing Prayer

Depart in silence.
