Words of Welcome The Peace
The peace of the Lord be with you. And also with you.
Call to Worship This is the day: when tears are wiped away; shattered hearts are mended; fears are replaced with joy. This is the day the Lord: rolls away the stone of fear; throws off death's clothes; goes ahead of us into God's future. This is the day the Lord has made: death has no fear for us; sin has lost its power over us; God opens the tombs of our hearts to fill us with life. This is the day: Easter Day! Christ is Risen! Hallelujah! by Thom Shuman Hymn
Christ the Lord is Risen Today
UMH #302
Prayer of Confession Christ has risen and we have risen to new life with him. Yet we must confess the ways we have continued to remain in our tombs of sin and death.
Living Lord, when we stand before the empty tomb, we don't always feel the joy of resurrection. We feel fear, doubt, and distrust. We feel empty. We still feel broken. Forgive the ways we settle for death and shadows, rather than life and light. Forgive the fear that paralyzes us at the brink of new life. Forgive our doubt of your love. Forgive our distrust of your surprising joyous plan. Fill our emptiness with your glorious light. Raise us to abundant new life for the glory of your name. silence for prayer
Words of Assurance Wake up, sleeper! Rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you. Sisters, brothers, siblings, Christ calls us to new life. Christ will lead us into righteousness. In the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! In the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! Thanks be to God! Alleluia! Amen. adapted from Greg Scheer
