BVA 3

The experiment set-up BVA3 documents movements that occur in geometries resembling buildings, in skeleton frames. Alien bodies cause these movements by their attempts to settle in the skeleton. Both skeletons and settlers are animated. They are alive. They can, to a limited extent, alter their form, dimensions and mass. They are in a reactive relationship to each other; they react to one another I recall a description of Proust's room. It was during the work on the

cathedral. The walls, furniture, horizontal and vertical surfaces were papered with notes, with layer upon layer of written phrases and documents. It was as if the surface of the writing paper, this restricted horizontal working plane, were not enough. The sentences climb up within the space, the surfaces of the room functioning as climbing aids. The skeleton frame of BVA 3 divides space. It separates space into lots. It makes space developable at any arbitrary point. Gravity, location and

stability are not a theme; every position can be occupied directly and immediately. The skeleton and the settlers are animated; they react to each other with rhythmical changes of volume and surface. Processes of expansion and contraction, bursting and imploding, disintegration and extraction become apparent. Visible settlers, invisible settlers, spirits and solid bodies. Every phase of the movement can freeze. .

ResearchInstituteforExperimentalSpace - City Intensifier workshop

The RIES, founded by Benijamin Jourdan and Dari Parvanov, recently organized a visiting lecture at the Blumberg`s Kunstkantine.Dari and Ben both completed their architecture studies at Wolf D. Prix`s studio in 99` and 02` respectively. Dari`s diploma thesis focused on how to handle the integration of modern architecture into a historically valuable city context as it is present in Varna. His work kindled the interest of the Varna Archaeological Museum and they invited him to continue architectual research in Varna in terms of a interdisciplinary workshop during summer 2004.The workshop was not only guided by architects, but also by a group of artists. The integration of artists and their conceptual approach into an architectural workshop should back up the architect in developing his initial ideas further, alongside designing a large building complex, like the New Varna Archaeological museum. On the 2nd of june Joerg Wagner (artist,Germany), Barak Reiser (artist,Israel) and Vincenzo Marchese (architect,Italy) presented their works involved in the Varna workshop and shared good food on a round table at the Blumberg`s Kunstkantine. A second workshop in summer 2006 is already anticipated...PrinzEisenbeton will keep you up to date!

DMAA will start their world tour “inTENSE respose” on the 16th of march at the Zumtobel Staff Lichtforum in Dornbirn. The exhibition shows a selection of projects from the last 12 years and will tour the next two years through major cities like London, Zurich, Berlin, Amsterdam, New York and Tokyo.

Wolfgang Tschapeller 1st Prize.

WT has won the 1st prize in a competition for the European Centre of Culture in Aachen. His design was called spectacular and visionary, since he planned a huge stage for Europe on 6000 m². If the city decides to realize the project, the budget will be no less than 26 million euros.

MoMA's Next Playmaker

“New Crowned Hope” presented their projects to city officials, getting thumbs up. This upcoming season: Prevent crit drama. Talk is cheap, but what can they say, if you show off with world wide web expertise adapted to your project. So don’t miss the first try out: The starter crit at Studio Prix. All it takes to entertain you.

expected to “unify the college's campus and allow for more interdepartmental collaborations and future growth. This will be a building of international significance," said Mohsen Mostafavi, dean of the College of Architecture, Art and Planning. Project costs are estimated at $34 million. Groundbreaking is expected in 2007.

Changes and Delays in Santiago

The government put the brakes until next year on the construction of two buildings in Peter Eisenman's massive Santiago city. The government wants to "reprogram" the works and will send the shell of the projects back to Eisenman.

Moscow New City

An international team led by the Dutch firm Maxwan has won an international competition for a new city of 160.000 inhabitants south-west of Moscow. The new city will be built on a 3000 ha plot along the city ring of Moscow, situated on a former collective farm. The prize-winning design of Maxwan includes 46.000 houses, a regional business center, and a leisure and education center. The plan also contains six city centers set amongst a network of public parks and forests. For this commission Maxwan has formed an international team joining the engineering firm URS (UK), landscape architects H+N+S (NL) and Martha Schwartz Partners (USA).

Towering in the Alps

Swiss architects Herzog and de Meuron are working on a spectacular tower structure in the rebuilding of the Schatzalp Hotel above Davos in Switzerland. The designers toyed with the concept of a snowflake as a ground plan, which reportedly led to interesting spatial effects on the façade when up-ended.

I don´t sing in karaoke-bars, except I am completely drunk, which may happen from time to time, but I am never ever drunk enough to to dress fancy. The drug that makes me dress fancy has not been invented yet. I don´t dress fancy and I don´t appreciate to find messages on my mobile that want me to appear at a birthday party in a karaoke-bar dressed up like sarah jessica parker. Whom will I meet there? Dr. Ross, Homer Simpson, Jennifer Lopez, Nate Fisher and Ally Mc Beal? Thank u very much. Messages like that make me want to rearrange my best-friends-list, in a quite similar way that incident on that baptism-party of an ex-very good friends daughter did, where I was forced to play charade bevor I

I don´t dress up like sarah jessica parker and I don´t sing Bon-Jovi-Songs and I don´t play charade, and if you want me at your party, I´d prefer being seated aside a cute professor, having a nice conversation on „The Sopranos“ and the new Bret-Easton-Ellis-Book and the Arctic Monkeys and on A.L. Opening of the Arco Arts Fair in Madrid on feb 9th. The Austrian winning project "ALIVE" was created by Lukas Galehr, born 1983 in Vorarlberg and Rupert Zallmann, born 1981 in Vienna. Both study under Prof. Wolf D. Prix. The project consists of an inflatable container recessed into the floor which, in rhythmic intervals, lifts the floor surface like a blister. The required technology was developed and tested in collaboration with a Viennese company. An extract from the jury statement: "The jury was impressed by the lucid manner in which the task was confronted. The winning project represents a minimal, almost hidden, intervention which offers maximum effect with minimum formal effort. The formal reticence provides an agreeable contrast to the visual noise of the surrounding art fair." http://www.bundeskanzleramt.at / search for "Galehr" or "Zallmann"

do you remember. current status feb 06

The Trialto Project is an urban development proposal by architect Gregor Eichinger. A network of bridges over the donaukanal at schwedenplatz , Vienna. The project implies a conjuction between the old inner city of Vienna and the expanding 2nd district, as well as the appreciation of schwedenplatz and the metamorphosis from a mere kanal to Donau Canale. Trialto could contain multiple mixed uses as g.e. Youth-Hotel, Fitness-Center, Bike-Station, Morning-Cafe, Sunset-Restaurant, Sport & Leisure Shopping, Media-Center, Radio-Station, Sun-Decks, Event-Dome, City-Time-Terminal and the shipping pier Vienna - Bratislava, Vienna - Budapest.
