Industries are intrinsically tied to the heritage of the city. The industries are valuable to the community by the creating an identity character and culture background. The shift in economics and development of technology in the 21st century has led to the decline of many large industries. By repurposing regenerating and activating industrial sites to serve a new purpose,to create a sustainable development which helps in keeping the identity and character of the place while at the same time creating new economic opportunities. AFT (Anglo French textiles) mill is a famous cotton mill in Puducherry. Anglo French textiles is one of the leading composite textiles mills in south India which was established in the year 1898, and from then saga of excellence in cotton fabrics and their exports began, during the 19th century itself. The production of the mill stops due to the financial crisis, old system and machine. Due to the damage in Thana cyclone 2011, the place was totally abandoned. Workers working in this industry also have lost their jobs and the factory has been shut down for the last 5 years not in the proper production for 10 years.Since the AFT mills has lost its industrialization, the place has the ability of creating a public space and the premise of the thesis is that the urban recycling of derelict industrial areas is indispensable for sustainable development. Conservation of industrial heritage marks a new commitment to the transformation of abandoned industrial sites to new cultural, economic and environmental uses. The transformation of the derelict industrial sites into public spaces represents a significant enhancement to the quality of life, an important raise of use of land recognition of the great potential for economic development of the place.
