With a new decade comes new interior design trends, so there is no better time than now to update the home. Not that trends like white kitchens and accent walls will disappear entirely but there will be an evolution and individuality and creativity will reign.

A Luxurious home is not just well appointed, it is one where the amenities allow you to feel spoiled. Pools, saunas, in-home gyms, backyard tennis courts, game rooms, and wine cellars are a few things that come to mind.

Unique pieces will be important as well as unusual materials with an emphasis on environmental sustainability. People want their homes to make them happy and to reflect their personalities. They are also thinking more long term and buying more for quality as they become more ecologically conscious.

WALL COLORS

Simple changes can make a big impact and paint is one of the simplest. 2020 appears to be the year for colored walls, ceilings and even cabinetry. We will be seeing fewer white walls and lots more color. Pantone picks classic blue as the color of 2020 while Sherwin-Williams picks navy. Benjamin Moore has chosen a soft rosy pinkish color. The theme for all three is the creation of a relaxing environment.

WALLPAPER

Wallpaper is also making a comeback, particularly for powder rooms and foyers. With wallpaper of every style, from bold, modern statements to subtle classics, don’t be surprised to see wallpaper used more frequently on ceilings, not just in the bathroom. Expect to see large scale patterns, bold colors and even metallic accents, that best displays the homeonwers style and personality.

KITCHENS

With the trend toward open floor plans, the kitchen has become an extension of the main living space, encouraging interaction and entertainment. This trend supports a casual yet connected lifestyle as well as informal dining.

IN-HOME CABINETRY AND APPLIANCES

People are experimenting with colorful cabinetry and appliances and even two-toned cabinetry. Counter islands for seating are essential with this design as they increase the intimacy of the kitchen. LED lighting, big sinks, stainless steel appliances are still in.
