JUNIOR GOLF
O
ur mission is to provide Junior Members access to the game of golf through a program that builds character values, offers a fun and safe experience and instills confidence through personal achievement. Children and grandchildren of Members, ages 6-12 are eligible to participate in the Junior Golf Program. There are three five-week sessions offered during the year. Students are grouped using a colored hat system. Each hat level has a specific curriculum designed to teach students the basic elements of the full swing, short game, putting, rules and etiquette.

Red Hats Ages 6-8
• Entry level class with basic elements of golf. • Includes, but not limited to, grip, posture, balance, basic golf terminology, rules, etiquette and safety. • No testing required to participate.
Red & White Hats Ages 6-8
• Second level of instruction for the beginning golfer. • Students must pass the Red Hat test or be evaluated and approved by Golf Shop staff to be eligible.
Blue Hats Ages 6-10
• Reinforces the instructional content of the Red Hat group. • Delves into additional basic/intermediate concepts and aspects of golf. • Students are required to pass the Red & White Hat test to advance the Blue Hat level or been evaluated and approved by Golf Shop staff.
Blue & White Hats Ages 8-12
• Designed for intermediate junior golfers with a functional knowledge of basic golf swing concepts, rules & etiquette. • Focus is getting students “golf course ready”. • Students will begin to use the knowledge learned previously to successfully play golf with less supervision. • Intermediate concepts are introduced such as the rules of golf, pace of play, cause and effect and golf course etiquette. • To enroll, students are required to pass the Blue Hat test as well as submit three signed 9-hole scorecards from any Blue PGA/ U.S. Kids Family Tees from any golf course to participate in the Blue/White hat class or been evaluated and approved by Golf Shop staff.
Black Hats Ages 8-12
• For intermediate/advanced junior golfers. • Ideally, students at this level are playing, following and practicing golf regularly on their own. • Building on the foundation of previous classes, instruction delves deeper into intermediate/advanced golf concepts. Course management and strategy introduced enabling students to obtain lower scores. • More individualized and specific to each student’s needs. Self-reliance and independence are strongly emphasized. • Black Hat students should have the ability to play golf under adult supervision within the pace of play guidelines. • Students wishing to enroll are required to pass the Blue & White Hat test, establish a USGA GHIN number as well as submit three signed 9-hole scorecards with a score lower than 45 from any Blue PGA/ U.S. Kids Family Tees from any golf course or been evaluated and approved by Golf Shop staff.
Black & White Hats Ages 10-12
• Designed for advanced/ competitive junior golfers who have made golf a priority and seeking to continually improve and advance to the next level. • Main focus is lowering scores and preparing for competitive golf. • Ideally, this golfer has the desire to successfully compete in junior golf association tournaments as well as our own Junior Club Team (travel team). • Little supervision should be required and students should have a better than average concept of all aspects related to the game. • Students wishing to enroll are required to pass the Black Hat test, have a USGA index of 30.0 or lower and submit 9 scorecards from any USGA rated tees from any golf course or been evaluated and approved by Golf Shop staff.

Summer Golf Camps
For students that may be on vacation for much of the summer and cannot make the commitment to a 5-week Junior Golf session, we are offering four one-week summer camps. All the instruction that is normally spread out over five weeks will be condensed into three two-hour classes on Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday from 3-5pm. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to play a few holes on the course on Friday afternoon at the end of the camp. • • • •

Summer Golf Camps are only available for the Blue Hats or higher due to the length of the camps and the intensity of the instruction schedule. Depending on instructor availability, the capacity for each week will be 12 students. Placement in the Summer Golf Camps will be a lottery system. Parents will prioritize which weeks they prefer when registering for the Junior Golf Program in March; each student will be guaranteed admission into at least one week of camp. JUNIOR GOLF TEAM Bay Cities Junior Golf Team
Palo Alto Hills is part of the Bay Cities League of Junior Golfers, the premier junior golf league in the nation. The league has offered a competitive atmosphere for Bay Area junior golfers since 1967. Our Club plays against teams from Los Altos, Saratoga, La Rinconada, Silver Creek Valley, Almaden and Pasatiempo golf clubs. The team is open to all junior golfers from all membership types that meet the following criteria: • • • •
Must have the ability to walk 18 holes Must be able to play from the Men’s or Women’s Tees Must have “better than average” knowledge of the rules of golf Enjoy playing in a competitive atmosphere

Must have the ability to shoot less than 100 for 18 holes Can handle themselves properly on the golf course with little supervision Must be available to play every Saturday during June and July Will not reach the age of 21 before January 1, 2016
The roster to participate in the matches is determined by qualifying scores and is updated regularly throughout the season. Qualifying for the ladder begins in April and matches start at the beginning of June. The Top 8 available players on the ladder will be in the starting lineup and we can bring up to 4 additional players to each match. X-Golf Palo Alto
X-Golf is a group instruction model developed by Golf Digest Top 40 Under 40 Instructor Chris Mayson of Maderas Golf Club in San Diego that we are implementing here at Palo Alto Hills. It is a year-long program designed for students who are at least 12 years old, have reached or exceeded the Black Hat level in the Junior Golf Program and are looking to develop their skills in a competitive group atmosphere. Classes are 60 minutes in length and consist of learning one specific skill and then testing it in a fun competition with the other students in the class. Parents and students can download the X-Golf app for iPhone and Android to see the schedule of upcoming classes and track past performance. The cost to participate is $100 per month per student and includes unlimited class attendance. Classes will be offered 2-3 times per week depending on the time of year. JUNIOR GOLF EVENTS Family Golf Tournament & Dinner
Sunday, July 24 The Parent Child Tournament is a fun way for juniors and parents to compete in a tournament together in an alternate shot format. Students in the Red and Red & White Hat levels play 3 holes. Students in the Blue and Blue & White levels play 6 holes. The competition takes place on the Front 9 from the Gold Junior Tees starting at 4:00pm. Dinner is provided for all participants following play and prizes and awards are distributed as well.

JUNIOR TENNIS
T
he Palo Alto Hills Junior Tennis program offers two tennis professionals, Bob Jaeger & Eric Barry. Their efforts focus on technique development when introducing or improving this lifelong sport to children of all tennis abilities. The junior program is categorized by age and level of experience. Tiny Tots Ages 4-6
Bring children for an energetic and fun 30 minute class that introduces them to the game of tennis. This class is for the very young who want to come to the Club and start developing hand eye coordination using tennis related drills and games.
Bronze Team Ages: 6-8 (Orange Ball, 36’ Service Line Court)
Silver Team Ages 9-10 (Green Dot Ball, 60’ Blue Line Court)

This group will focus on the fundamentals using basic drills and games. Major emphasis will be on forehand and backhand ground strokes along with the service motion. Scoring will be introduced. Softer balls and smaller court sizes will be used. Eight year olds may pick this level or the Silver level depending on their physical size, prior tennis experience and level of coordination. This group is for beginning and intermediate level players to cover the fundamentals with drills and basic match play. Forehand and backhand ground strokes, serve, some spinning of the ball and net play are regular components of this class. Fun games and match play will close out each lesson. This 90 minute group is for beginning and intermediate level players and will cover all areas of the game including first & second serves, topspin ground strokes and net play. Point situation drills will be used in addition to lots of minutes pounding balls off the ball machine to groove strokes. Fun games and match play will close out each lesson. This 2-hour practice is for the serious intermediate to advanced level player who wants to work hard to improve their game. All spins on ground strokes and serves are developed. Drills will be used to strengthen the student’s ability to place the ball with the appropriate trajectory and ball speeds in order to dictate play. Games and match play with a strong focus on singles and doubles strategy and shot selection will close out each lesson. Perfect for tournament players and students who are going to be or are playing on high school teams.

YEAR ROUND SWIM
Children and grandchildren of Members are welcome to participate in our year-round Junior Swim Team Program. The summer season boasts daily practices, weekly swim competitions, team bonding events, and much more. During practices, swimmers devote time to technique of all four swim strokes, speed and endurance and dives and turns while making unforgettable memories! We have Pasta Feeds after Friday practices in the summer, great for swimmers to socialize and get psyched for the swim meets. After each meet, we will also continue the great tradition of BBQing at our home pool where families can bring their own food to grill. Don’t forget, the Sharks swim year-round! Spring and fall practices are great for staying in shape and working on skills during the off season.

Swimmers in this group will have some level of swim team practice experience. The focus is on building strength and endurance in every stroke through drills, multiple lengths and on deck coaching. Swimmers should be able to swim anywhere from 20-60 laps per practice. Recommended age: 6-10 years old. Gold Group swimmers are introduced to the basic training environment. The focus is on technique while introducing race strategy and basic interval training. The continuing improvement on stroke technique, starts, and turns are a focus every single day. A minimum of 60 laps per practice is expected. Recommended age: 11 & up, but please take into consideration current swimming level.

SHARK EVENTS KICK OFF DINNER
Sunday, April 17 Kick off the season with a Sharks team dinner. This is a great chance for all swim team families to get to know one another, learn more about how our swim meets will work, and get a preview of the special Sharks activities for the season. We look forward to seeing the whole Sharks team there!!
END OF SEASON AWARDS DINNER
Sunday, July 17 Join us to help celebrate another great summer for the Sharks. We’ll finish the season with an awesome pool deck party after our last meet of the season. Dinner, dancing and awards are all included in this celebration of our beloved Sharks.
JUNIOR COACH CERTIFIED COURSE
New for 2016! Here is a perfect opportunity for Sharks who want to step into a new role for the summer swim season. The Junior Coaches program is designed for swimmers 15 ½-18 years old to become a role model and leader amongst their peers. They will assist the Head Coach and assistant coaches during practices and meets, lead team building activities and compete in the meets as well. This is a Red Cross Lifeguard Certification course that requires participation over 4 weekends. Participants will be provided the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses. There are four areas of competencies that participants will need to test and pass in order to receive lifeguard certification. 4 weekend Course (Participants need to attend all 8 sessions) Saturdays and Sundays, 8:00am-4:30pm Saturday April 30 & Sunday May 1 Saturday May 7 & Sunday May 8 Saturday May 14 & Sunday May 15 Saturday May 21 & Sunday May 22 Certification Fee: $180. Tween Camp, for ages 9-12 years old, takes PAH Summer Camps to the next level. Come join in the extreme fun and play hard. We will learn and play multiple sports such as soccer, volleyball, and flag football. We will also get in the pool for relays, dive contests, and water polo. There won’t be a shortage of activities. When we’re taking a breather, we will paint graffiti on canvas, go on club wide scavenger hunts, make jerseys, explore our surroundings through nature hikes and so much more! The Leader In Training (LIT) program is a supplemental program that focuses on developing various leadership skills and learned responsibilities as a participant. Campers will acquire the necessary fundamentals and training to prepare them for future endeavors in a work environment. Lifelong skill-sets emphasized include learning basic first aid, safety and awareness, behavior management, communication, decision making, and activity planning and set up while working in a team building atmosphere. Plenty of opportunities for family bonding at PAH! We promise to make it fun and interesting to spend time together. Father Daughter Dance February 28 Calling all Fathers, Grandfathers, Uncles, Nieces, Daughters and Granddaughters. Put on your dancing shoes for a Father Daughter Dance and Dinner. All ages are welcome. Easter Brunch March 27 Spring has sprung at PAH which means it’s time for our annual Easter Day Brunch complete with an outstanding buffet, petting zoo and THREE egg hunts that the whole family can enjoy. Mother’s Day Brunch May 8 Treat Mom to a brunch she won’t soon forget. Today it’s all about her and what better way to celebrate Mom than at our Mother’s Day Brunch. Leave the cooking and cleaning to us! Mother Son Dodgeball Tournament May 15 Dodge, Duck, Dip and Dive. Boys watch out, the moms are ready to compete in a good ol’ friendly game of Dodgeball. Family Golf Tournament and Dinner July 24 This is a fun way for juniors and parents to compete in a tournament together with an alternate shot format. Dinner is provided for all participants following play plus prizes and awards. Camp Run Amok August 27 This summertime family favorite is back. What’s better than camping? Camping on the driving range where the food, games, activities and late night movie are provided! You bring the camping gear and we’ll bring the rest. 2nd Annual Halloween Family Fair October 23 If you thought 2015’s Fair was fun, wait till you see what we have in store for our 2nd Annual Halloween Family Fair. Thanks to your feedback, 2016’s Fair will be even better! Family Glow Run November 6 Dust off those running shoes and join us for a family glow in the dark night race all around our beautiful golf course. Each member of the family can run individually or together as a relay. Glow costumes are allowed and encouraged to make your family stand out in the crowd. Holiday Brunch with Santa December 4 This is just the thing you need to get you and your family in the holiday spirit. Of course there will be a wonderful feast, but don’t worry, Santa and the most entertaining elf ever will be the center of attention.

ur Parent’s Night Out has been completely re-done and re-themed with even bigger and better activities for 2016. Parents may work out at the fitness center, get a massage or have dinner at the Club while we entertain the kids. Ages 2 & up are welcome for PNO on the first Friday of the month except for January. New Year Celebration February 5 Let’s kick off 2016 with a celebration and different New Year’s traditions. Trivia Night March 4 Disney, sports, movies and even PAH trivia! We’ll test your knowledge on all of these and much more! Magnificent Magicians April 1 Learn basic magic tricks and the secrets behind being a magnificent magician. Fiesta Friday May 6 Come in your party gear as we fiesta on Friday evening, PAH Kool Kidz style. Super Heroes June 3 Dress as your favorite super hero and get ready to show us your special super power. TWEEN NIGHTS Events tailored specifically to rouse Tweens ages 9-12. Babysitter’s Certification Course February 6 For Tween and Teens, ages 11-15, to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly care for infants and children. This 6.5 hour Red Cross training course will help participants to develop leadership’s skills, learn how to develop a babysitting business and keep themselves and others safe. Participants will also learn about basic child care and basic first aid.
Mini Mudder May 20 Are you ready to get down and dirty? Bring your messy clothes and join us in our insane muddy obstacle courses and relay races. Laser Tag October 28 Back by popular demand! The under-ground garage will be transformed into a laser tag haven with great obstacles. Bring your friends and join us for the fun! Find your inner chef for this out of the box creative cooking evening. Snacks & Smoothies March 18 Make some healthy yet fun after school snacks as well as smoothies. Learning to find the perfect smoothie mix and healthy snacks will be an adventure. Bring your appetite! Dessert Off December 16 All you need is your sweet tooth and creative imagination! We will learn the science behind how to make an amazing dessert and follow up with a dessert off.

Extreme Obstacle Course October 21 We are completely taking over the fitness center for an extreme obstacle course with boot camp obstacles and booby traps along the way.
Cycle Survival (Ages 9 and up) Mini Bootcamp (Ages 5-9) January 8 Our older Kool Kidz will be upstairs for an express cycle class and will learn bike safety while younger Kool Kidz compete and test their strength in a mini Olympian style boot camp. Pool Pilates August 19 Anybody can do Pilates on the ground, but can you do it in the middle of the pool? This class is a great way to stay cool and learn about a new form of Pilates. ancy Manners classes for 2016 will focus on the core topics that parents most often request. These classes are best suited for kids ages 5 and up.
Club Etiquette February 26 We will discuss everything from golf cart etiquette to dining etiquette. Plus we cover dress code, Club Rules and everything in between. Table Manners April 15 Why are there so many forks on the table? We’ve got you covered in this basic table manners class. After we’ve learned all of these new skills, we’ll put them to good use with a special dinner just for kids!

idz with a Cause is a fun and educational series geared towards Kidz ages 6 and up to show how grateful we are by giving back! Kidz with a Cause events benefit a charity or organization in need with proceeds or goods from the event. Please join us for a year filled with gratitude. Layers of Love January 29 Come make a difference this winter as we help those less fortunate keep warm. Layers of Love is a 2-in-1 event making blankets as well as hosting a clothing drive. All items that are made and collected will be donated to a local homeless shelter. Paint for a Cure April 29 Our fourth annual Paint for a Cure event is sure to bring out the artist in you! Use your talents to help raise money for the Ronald McDonald house through our silent auction. What this year’s theme will be?!
