A community hub for elderly to find their ikigai

संस्कार = SANSKAR = Discipline driven by a culture.

Ikigai = Meaning of life

In today’s generation driven by hectic schedules of adults and children, elderly of our society live a lonely life without any purpose. Despite being a library of experiences and knowledge, their life becomes meaningless in the idleness of daily schedule reflecting boredom and difficult in adaptation and survival.

The major concept of ‘SANSKAR’ is to propose a community participatory space for elderly where they can connect, meet and interact with each other and spend a productive time performing activities leading towards their active ageing and transferring of culture to the interested newer generation.

2. INTERIOR

It’s an interior project that I’ve done in 8th semester in college. The project was about designing 1bhk, 2bhk apartments and studio apartments.

As the project was for a service apartment, the concept of minimalism was studied. Japandi is one of the minimal styles which is minimalist yet welcoming, and is all about using neutral tones, lots of textures and natural materials.

The site is 1995.48 square ft. floor of an apartment with central staircase and a lift. There is proper ventilation and lights in every four sides which made it possible to design 4 apartments on each corner.

5. DESIGN COMPETITION

I’ve participated in one national and the international design competition.

‘Revitalization of tankeshwor’ ; ‘UNALOME’ by SONA (2020) where we secured position of 1st runner up and ‘Arc-Asia design competition’

‘PULSE’(2023) was seleted as top 3 in national level.

CONCEPT

The concept for this project is the UNALOME, which symbolizes the experience of path. Considering that the site is closer to a very important part of the human life ‘the ghat’ we have taken into consideration that the concept be something that relates to all the experiences one has to go through in life.

The outer edges of the site have a cycling path that shows the continuity of life. The main path begins from a spiral wave that depicts an energy body which is the initial stage of the mind, this area is shown as the kids zone as it is full of new curiosities and advancement. As the path proceeds we find it converging into twists and turns that incorporates water bodies, pavilions and green space that shows the crisscrossing nature of fate in the adult stage where companionship and acceptance in valued the most.

Going further we find paths that are fairly straight which depicts how life converges to its own inner balance. This path is more attuned with nature and is also a nature walk. Finally, the last dot of the Unalome is determined by the portrayal of an about to bloom lotus from the muddy water which depicts freedom or nirvana from the real world to a spiritual one. the unalome path starts from one end and meets the ‘ghat’ at the other which shows life from start to end and creates a connection between them.

UNALOME The path of experience.
