InterCEPT (Shop & Cafeteria) Research & Design CEPT Campus, Ahmedabad | 275 sqm Metal Bending, Engraving, Embossing; Clay Casting, Molela Tiles; Glass Etching

Fourth Semester Academic Project | CEPT The studio dwells into discussing the positions of craft in contemporary interior architecture practices. With a combination of research and design methods, the studio focuses on envisaging future directions of craft productions. The studio process broadened my notion of craft, about its simplicity in aesthetics and complexity in the process. The crafts being evolved out of need, functionality is the core of it which also applies to the concept of minimalism. InterCEPT will become the physical link between Shrenikbhai Plaza and SID Plaza, making it an ideal location for students’ shop and interactive activities. The campus is the architectural heritage, lacks in navigating the visitors. Thus, there is a need for a concierge area and eatery for an increased number of students and visitors in 2030. An interior language is developed collaborating the metal and clay material craft techniques. The metal elements introduced in the space is customized to become a display & lighting systems. Keeping the essence & the production process of craft technique intact, the interior follows the minimalistic design approach. https://portfolio.cept.ac.in/2020/S/fd/craft-future-id4000-spring-2020/ craft-future-minimalism-spring-2020-pg180748

Future Scenario

Interior Practice

Craft Production Craft production is inspired by the historical elements & events in the past. One can see the abundant use of conventional materials, traditional techniques & precise craftsmanship in the earlier projects. Today’s production industry is based on the experimentation on contemporary as well as traditional materials and improvising the conventional techniques as per the context. Design innovation plays an important role in creating a unique identity. The concept of mass customization can be widely seen in craft-based projects where a particular module or pattern is used in repetition. Also, recycling or up-cycling of resources perform a significant role in reducing the project cost and leading a project to sustainable construction. While imitating tradition in terms of cost-effective construction, few projects challenge the material properties to create unique design solutions. The budget constrains leads craftsmen to invent the low-cost technology within the available resources which helps them to easy execution and increasing market demand. Whereas the value of handmade products is very high the crafts have become the luxury.

Interior Practice Experimentation, Reinterpretation, Experience, Innovation Today’s the interior practice is not just limited to décor but also about creating the identity through experimentation in design and branding aspects. The scope of designer is to create a unique experience according to the clients need. To create the desired experience designers are taking inspiration from site context, the function of the space, tradition, and technology. Innovation is the crucial into design practice. Many practices believe going back to their roots where reinterpretation of traditional crafts, material or technique bridges the gap between local and global. While few believe in new age technologies but their construction techniques takes the inspiration from the regional materials. The execution of the project in designated budget decides the materials most of the time. Using locally available materials or recycled materials can help designer to achieve the desired result.

Second Semester Academic Project | Exchange Program at HFT, Stuttgart | Group Work The exhibition is a semester-long work of students from India, Germany, Switzerland & Turkey. It is about Dwellings in the present & near future. The semester started with the idea of the small living unit and concluded as an exhibition. The seven cubic pavilions have different ‘LIVING’ ideas which are dedicated to topics like Fairy Living, Global-Local, Manifesto of Living, Basic Needs, Extreme Living, and Public-private. Space is divided visually through the bold colored carpets, which also creates spaces for exhibiting contents by different partner institutes. The dimensions of the cubes are derived from the study of proportions, based on a modular scale. Assembly Based Design

Location | Area:

CG Road, Ahmedabad | 200 sqmt

First Semester Academic Project | CEPT The focus of the second module of my foundation semester is assembly based construction techniques. The learning was taken place through a combination of group and individual tasks in the first module - Objectory, Trajectory & factory. Through independent study, I decided on the site context in the city of Ahmedabad and propose a relevant program within the framework of the key theme. The selected site is situated at C. G. Road, the Major Financial Hub of Ahmadabad which is in proximity to the artisans & university area. It is also easily accessible by public transport. The program of a public interaction space for the exhibition of art is designed utilizing the manufactured flexible and prefabricated systems. Adaptability, Modularity & Illuminations were the major design criteria for the exhibition gallery. https://portfolio.cept.ac.in/2018/M/fd/group-a-2588-1-monsoon-2018/ exhibition-gallery-i-cg-road-i-ahmedabad-monsoon-2018-pg180748

The site is located in dense residential and industrial areas of Kondhwa in Pune city. A new housing scheme planned to achieve visual Openness in a dense city. The overall site area is 7 Acres out of which the first phase will consist of 4.5 acres. Later both the phases will be accessed by the same internal road. The road connects to the central open space with trees as a guide. Interactive Alternate Terraces are created for visual connectivity. The basement is planned as per the topographic level on site. Thus, the RG area is 60% on ground level & 40% on the basement slab level. Four residential towers, mixed-use entrance towers have a combination of 1BHK & 2BHK apartments. All 2 BHK flats are outlined as a corner unit to obtain the cross ventilation and desired view. No unit is designed facing south, as per the Vastu compliances.

A resort becomes the heart of leisure activities for the city filled with people who are so engrossed in their day to day work. It provides people with an opportunity to get away from their daily clockwork and get involved in physical as well as social activities. Structures are designed according to the topography of the site. Building Blocks are planned slightly inside to give the feel of the resort by creating sculptures & landscaping elements along the roadways. Ramada Dehradun is a plush business stopover or a pleasant family holiday destination. The challenge was to accommodate all the requirements in the existing structural system. The two columns in the double-height entrance lobby in front of the main door is cladded with marble to camouflage with the weaving marble pattern on the walls. The grand entrance opens into a Crust: lounge cafe and reception followed by bar and restaurant. The fine dine restaurant further reveals the garden outdoor seating giving a variety of ambiance to visitors. A 52 key hotel also has a rooftop bar and restaurant to enjoy the city view. The hotel also offers a conference room & banquet facility.
