Designing a sustainable convention centre to meet the global standards and development of the public realm on the lakefront.
Sensitivity to lake may restrict design and add limitations.

Two artificial islands were created on the lake. The islands were developed in order to enhance the beauty of the lake and to attract more birds. Today these two vegetated islands have turned into the roost sites for several species of water-birds.
HISTORY OF HEBBAL
The lake was created by Kempe Gowda, the founder of Bangalore, in 1537. It is one of the three lakes that were created by him. Hebbal Lake was formed by damming natural valley systems through the construction of bunds, just as most other lakes and tanks were created within the Bangalore region.
Lake was under the management of Karnataka State Forest Department. In 2002 the responsibility for managing the lake was handed over to the Lake Development Authority, a non-profit society that was created for managing lakes in the Bangalore region.

Hebbal Lake is one of the oldest and most popular lakes in Bangalore. It is well known as a habitat for numerous exotic local and migratory birds. The lake is situated in the northern part of Bangalore, along the Bellary Road. The huge lake covers an area of around 150 acres. The lake also possesses a beautiful garden adjacent to it.

According to the landuse the selected site is coded as commercial. Minimum 75m should be left as a buffer around the periphery of the lake. Only temporary structures can be build and not permanent structures. The space can be used as an open semi-open space for the public gathering. The green patch which is included in the site area can be a continuation of the park area which can be used as a cycling track/ walking track.

“Basavangudi is one of the older cities planned, which has a strong religious and cultural character. It has prominent historic and cultural points which increases the scope for tourists. The project was to study the area and do a vast study on various layers of urban city planning like history, built form, transport , green space, services, etc. Urban Strategies were incorporated and parcel of land were selected to provide public, sem-public and commercial activities to redevelop the existing form. Site A1, A2, A3 and A4 was selected to redesign and introduce spaces like Post Office, Library, Bangalore One, Community Centre, Wellness Centre, Cafe, Charts Parlour, Tourist Facility, Student Facility and Retail Commercial in the area.”
