Before leaving you to read about the BIA2023, I wanted to share my opinion on Panorama’s investigative programme on Chinese-made CCTV. While the program highlighted valid concerns regarding privacy and security, it is crucial to approach these discussions nuance, avoiding the stigmatisation of products based on their country of origin.
Surveillance systems should include robust safeguards and privacy measures, regardless of their origin. To ensure good security measures, data encryption must be rigorous, secure network protocols must be followed, and potential vulnerabilities must be patched regularly. By placing emphasis on the establishment and enforcement of rigorous security standards, we can mitigate potential risks and protect individuals’ privacy, irrespective of the camera’s manufacturer.
