Emma Thomas Chief Executive Officer Achmea Australia
Achmea has been lending farmers a hand for more than 200 years
Achmea was established more than 200 years ago in the Netherlands, when 39 farmers put money in a glass jar to be compensated in case one of them had a haystack fire. This group of farmers supported each other and worked together to reduce the risks on their own farms, as well as neighbouring farms. That philosophy of solidarity and community support lives on today in our global community of 13,000 employees and 13 million customers. Achmea’s strong growth shows that as an insurer, we are actively responding to changes in societies and clients expectations, whilst cherishing our co-operative heritage and adhering to the same co-operative principles we started with. We can achieve more by working together to reduce risk and avoid losses. Exclusively dedicated to farm insurance in Australia, we are committed to keeping farmers farming by helping you protect your livelihood and business continuity. Once insured with Achmea, your relationship with your Risk Specialist will continue, ensuring our partnership grows over time.
From 39 farmers 200 years ago, to more than 13 million clients worldwide.

With an industry-leading retention rate, farmers who come on board, stay on board
DANIEL KAHL Wee Waa cotton grower and 2017 Nuffield Scholar Our relationship with our local Risk Specialist Richard is a good working relationship. It’s easy in case of a claim and they are quick to respond if there’s an issue.
With that knowledge, it’s been easier to add certain items such as new gear to our policy or adjust the level of cover as things happen within our business.
Having someone based locally with that familiarity with what we do, the equipment we use and the infrastructure we have in place certainly makes it easier than it might be using an online insurance option.
As part of establishing our policy, our Risk Specialist Richard spent time to travel around the farm and the results of that allowed us to make an informed decision about what needed to be covered and at what level.
When something unexpected happens, our clients value our direct and personal claims handling service.
Achmea is the best insurance company and we have told many locals about the service we received from them during and after Cyclone Debbie. John and Sandra Faletti, Proserpine QLD.
Thank you! Over the years, I have not made many claims but I can honestly say this has been the easiest and most efficient experience I have had dealing with an insurance business. Again, my thanks. P Bourne, VIC

Reducing risks can keep unexpected repair bills and premiums down With over 200 years of experience helping farmers manage their risks and insurance, more farmers are switching to Achmea. Together with you, we review your buildings, sheds and machinery including contents and inventory as part of our on-farm visit. This can help identify hazards and losses before they occur, keeping repair bills and premiums down. For those risks that can’t be eliminated, you can tap into our 200 years of expertise in farm insurance.
We rely heavily on Achmea with our insurance, especially with new machinery. Garry Kadwell, Potato and sheep farmer (Crookwell NSW).

The best farm insurance
is accurate farm insurance, and farmers can’t afford to be underinsured Due to inadequate cover, farmers are left financially exposed. If you are insufficiently insured, you may only receive a portion of the claim amount you require. Achmea has identified some of the ways this can occur: • The value of your home and farm buildings may have increased, but your policy has not been updated. • You may have upgraded your buildings and equipment, but your policy hasn’t been updated to reflect the increased value. • It may be difficult to accurately determine the actual value of your building(s). • After a large event actual building costs may have increased, leaving you financially exposed. • Building Codes* might have been changed by the government, which pushes actual rebuild costs up to higher amounts. • You may have upgraded your buildings and equipment, but your policy has not been updated.
