Today I am excited to announce a Process Street side project called MailTheme.
What is MailTheme? MailTheme lets you manage the content and design of your transactional emails from one place. MailTheme is an app that plugs into your SMTP provider and lets you separate the design and content of emails. Create as many email templates as you want, manage the design from one place (“the theme�). MailTheme is essentially an email template content management system (CMS) for transactional emails allowing you to quickly create templates without having to worry about the design, responsiveness etc. MailTheme plugs into your favorite email service providers such as Sendgrid, Mandrill, Postmark, MailGun etc..
If you’re a web developer who is looking for an easier way to manage templates or a marketer who wants to be able to edit templates without asking for help from development, MailTheme is for you.
Why are we building this? MailTheme came out of a feature we were working on for Process Street. We are currently working on the notifications module which is going to 2 or 3x the number of emails we send out from our app. We already have a hard time now managing our 15 or so email templates, so we figured this pain would increase when we increased the number of templates. We figured there should be a way to manage email templates in a simple and easy way, but we could not find one. We then discussed building it into the app so we could manage it ourselves, but the use case for this tool is so different to our core product we felt it would be faster to build as a stand alone app. The next obvious step, since we are already building the core product, was to spend a few extra days and spin it off as a side tool that we can sell. And that’s what we did.
Unexpected Benefits It’s pretty cool to work on a second product. We have learned a lot from working on Process Street for the
last 1.5 years and implemented that into our development and now launch of MailTheme. We first released a viral landing page that you can check out here, something we never did for Process Stree. Cameron is testing new programming and deployment technology plus we are hosting Google Cloud vs Amazon which we currently use for Process Street just to comare the services (see his blog post here). We are getting to quickly test different marketing strategies and technologies that we may integrate into Process Street, generate some extra exposure and hopefully revenue for the company too.
When can I get it? You can get early access to MailTheme here. We’ve already finished the app and are in the process of testing it and hooking it up to MailTheme (yes we use MailTheme to manage MailTheme templates) and Process Street. Once we test it on our own apps for a few weeks we will release it in to the public. If you want early access make sure to sign up here.
