Forward to the Green Lantern
Mrs. Farrell and I take this opportunity to say goodbye and good luck to the Class of 1971. and to Proctor Academy. W e are grateful to all the students, parents, staff members, faculty, and trustees, w h o have m a d e our m a n y years of service so rewarding. W e are especially concerned with the Class of 1971 for, of course, w e graduate with it. To future editorial boards m a y we be permitted one last bit of advice. A successful, admirable year book can be put together only with the guidance of an experienced, skilled professional. A group of students, using only the fraction of their time that they can afford, cannot hope to duplicate such a performance in one year. W e are grateful to Mr. Robert St. Louis for his expert photography and his guidance of this year's Green Lantern Staff. Lyle H. Farrell

The varsity football season this year was one of sweat, pain, and hardships. Putting our small but eager squad against more experienced and physically superior teams resulted in losses only on the record books. Every m e m b e r wanted to give his all for the team and, through the test of each game, learned a little more about himself. This being the case, each player can look at himself as a winner and feel proud of his team and himself.

With an 8-5 record, the Big Green had a rewarding year. Although the weather was hard on the ice, the players great enthusiasm and hustle enabled them to gain sole possession of second place in the Lakes Region. High Scorer Co-Captain T o m Tripp place the team with 29 points, while brother co-captain Frank and defenseman Sandy Sides kept things hot by scoring 23 and 20 points respectfully. The amazing defensive play of Duchy (bean) Rendall, Doug Windsor and W e s Pegler of the second line which had a 9 pt. average per player for the year, kept opponent teams to low scoring games. Art Ketchum patrolled the ice for ruffians, while he wasn't blocking slap shots, and Scotty Sylvestor guarded his cage making saves, that time after time helped Proctor to win its games. Although T o m and Frank Tripp, Sandy Sides, Scotty Sylvestor, Doug Windsor, and Stan Baker will be graduating, next years captains Art Ketchum and Stu Rapp and the help of D o u g Rendall should make next year another good season.

This year was probably the best year that the Varsity Ski T e a m had had in a long time. W e started the season off with a ski trail that was in the best condition it had ever been in, and a lift that successfully got skiers up the mountain with great ease. What this added up to was the best Prep School Ski Area in the East. The Ski T e a m had members w h o were all members from last year. This meant experienced racers and skiers w h o knew the competition. Co-captains Terry Traver and Evan Nystedt led the team to a season with six wins and four losses. In the future this team will be hard to forget. The Ski T e a m would like to thank Mr. Jackson, the Head Coach, for all his knowledge, Mr. Norris, the Nordic Coach, F O R A L L HIS T I M E A N D Mr. Latham, the Alpine Coach, for all his help.
