1989 Green Lantern To:

Connie Appel Connie Appel has m a d e m a n y worthwhile contributions to Proctor and the community. Her motherly love and caring spirit have enhanced all of our lives. Connie has been invaluable not only in helping us to grasp the material in her courses, but also to capture our interest so that w e enjoy learning it. Though w e dread her announcements about points, she always includes that special tone in her voice that gives her the ability to m a k e the bad news sound a little less unpleasant. Connie adds a special touch to all that she does, from her teaching to her advising.

Todd Chamberlain 1972-1989

Justine Wilson has been a m e m b e r of the Proctor Academy community for 31 years. First as a dorm parent with her husband Bob Wilson, then in 1960 she undertook the responsibility of the library. She started out with a library of a few dusty tomes and built it into a wide and varied collection. The library started out as one small room in Maxwell Savage. In 1962 Justine Wilson moved the library into Shirley Hall and the Lovejoy Library was created. She arranged the surroundings with an elegant oriental rug, comfortable wingback reading chairs, and framed pictures to create an atmosphere to encourage librarian patrons to linger and read. She's always helpful and concerned for the students' needs. She has had a major impact at Proctor A c a d e m y and will always be remembered for her caring and warmth.

I a m going to miss this school and everyone here, I'll never forget the times I had here: The van rides to Canada, the long nights in Gannett house. The wicked rides in the golf cart through the snow. That fun day on the ski jump behind the field house. Gregor, Neville, Creature, Alexei remember "Is m y butt frozen?" Paul, Peter and Barley rughh! Richard Courts Kayaker : Anyone w h o paddles ( or attempts to paddle ) a kayak. From the point of view of non-paddlers, kayakers are generally perceived to be A. the Whitewater equlivalent of Hells Angels, or B. braindamaged river loonies, or both. Easily recognized on the river, kayakers tend to travel in large groups and engage in bizarre rituals in each and every rapid. Kayakers tend to view all other types of rivercraft as slow-moving obstacles to wave/hole playing, with rafts being most disliked of all. Canoes are tolerated as amusing entertainment and/or comic relief, particularly when a swamping or spill occurs. Decked canoeist seem to be universally disliked and distrusted by kayakers. "Rumbles" between kayakers and c-boaters are not unc o m m o n in the southeast. Never call a kayaker a "kayakist" or a "feelthy twoblader", at least to his face. Thanks M o m and Dad I Love You! Soccer this fall was great and I really enjoyed Karls coaching and his taste in music. He was definetely the strangest and one of the best coaches I have ever had. I really want him to know that I enjoyed playing for Proctor and for him and Yunus. The start of this winter has also been excellent with Gary, Lin, Cris, John, and Penny. They are great coaches and have worked hard on the hill. Making snow and have helped m e in all sorts of ways. I don't think I will ever forget the first eastern meeting with Noah and his big stick and I don't think he will live it down. The Love Hexagon! — us fickle? N E V E R ! The package comes in two, take it or leave it. The peanut butter was sure C O L D in that igloo! — I can still deny it. — W e still had fun, didn't we?! "She was a friend to m e when I needed one. Wasn't for her I don't know what I'd done." -Jackson Browne Thanks for everything Cathryn! I love you. R e m e m b e r — Marsie Doodle will always be your Pumpkin Poodle! Mars — This doesn't mean w e have to grow up, does it? Never! You're better than a friend, you're like a sister and I love you like one too. Let's not say "Good-bye." Let's just say — "See you later alligator!" O H ! and by the way — W h o put peanut butter in m y chocolate? It must have been the same idiot w h o molested you in the igloo! 53

Kind and gentle was his soul. Yet it had a glorious might: Clouded minds it filled with light Wounded spirits it m a d e whole.

If you can keep your head w h e n all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you; If you can trust yourself w h e n all m e n doubt you, But m a k e allowances for their doubting too: If you can wait and not be tired by waiting, Or being lied about, don't deal in lies, Or being hated, don't give way to hating, A n d yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise; If you can dream — and not m a k e dreams your master; If you can think — and not m a k e thoughts your aim, If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster A n d treat those two impostors just the same: If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken Twisted by knaves to m a k e a trap for fools, Or watch the things you gave your life to.broken, A n d stoop and build 'em up with worn out tools; If you can m a k e one heap of all your winnings A n d risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss, A n d lose, and start again at your beginnings A n d never breathe a word about your loss: If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew T o serve your turn long after they are gone, A n d so hold on w h e n there is nothing in you Except the Will which says to them:"Hold on!" If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, Or walk with kings — nor lose the c o m m o n touch, If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you, If all m e n count with you, but none too much: If you can fill the unforgiving minute With sixty seconds' worth of distance run, Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it, A n d — which is more — you'll be a Man, m y son!

Calmly, calmly lay him down: He hath fought the noble fight He hath battled for the right, He hath w o n the fadeless crown. William Gaskell

Remember R e m e m b e r m e when 1 a m gone away,/ Gone far away into the silent land;/ W h e n you can no more hold m e by the hand,/ Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay./ Rem e m b e r m e when no more day to day/ You tell m e of our future that you planned:/ Only remember me; you understand/ It will be too late then to counsel then or pray./ Yet if you should forget m e for a while/ And afterwards remember, do not grieve:/ For if the darkness and corruption leave/ A vestige of the thoughts that once 1 had,/ Better by far you should forget and smile/ Than that you should rem e m b e r and be sad.

The Prayer of St. Francis Lord, m a k e m e an instrument of thy peace. Where there is hatred, let m e sow love. Where there is injury . . . pardon. Where there is discord . . . unity. Where there is doubt . . . faith. Where there is error . . . truth. Where there is despair . . . hope. Where there is sadness .. . joy. Where there is darkness . . . light. O Divine Master, grant that I m a y not so m u c h see T o be consoled ... as to console. T o be understood ... as to understand. To be loved ... as to love. For: It is in giving . . . that w e receive. It is in pardoning . . . that w e are pardoned. It is in dying . . . that w e are born to eternal life.

Todd was one of the greatest kids around, always looking out for other people. You c a m e first, he came second. He was always wearing that smile or "smirk" of his, cheering up everyone else and making people laugh. He had fun wherever he went, met new friends and had s o m e more fun. Todd was stubborn: he lived the way he wanted to live, and that was that. W e will all miss him, that's for sure. W e can't change anything or bring him back, but wherever he is, he's having a blast. Rob Blair

God grant m e the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
