Ghosts of War touches on the intensity of battle, and the pain of losing comrades, but for Smithson, the war

FESTIVALS AND EXHIBITIONS
FOOL THE EYE EXHIBITION Opens February 10, 2015 and runs until March 8, 2015. In the art show FOOL THE EYE, we invite students to submit artwork for the exhibition that explores their most incredible and mind bending works of art. We are seeking art that tricks or fools the eye. Artwork of all mediums will be accepted from students in grades 7–12 in this art show based on The Illusionists™, at Proctors in February. MEDIA ARTS FESTIVAL Wednesday, June 3, 2015 • 7-8pm A festival to showcase the talents of local young artists working in the media arts: animation, digital illustration, filmmaking, interactive journalism and experimental media. Artists in middle and high school are invited to submit their media for exhibition in this festival from 7-8pm that evening. Interactive/motion pieces will be presented on the GIANT Screen in the GE Theatre. Work from a maximum of 10 schools will be accepted for this year’s festival. No more than 15 minutes of work per school.
NEW! MUSICAL THEATRE FESTIVAL Thursday, March 12, 2015 • 9am-2pm This one-of-a-kind opportunity allows students to participate in a full-day musical theatre festival by offering opportunities to strengthen, promote, and share artistic skills within an interactive and supportive theatrical environment. It will be a full day of workshops led by industry professionals, including an adjudication of a musical number from your spring musical, lunch and the opportunity to network among groups. Workshops for the day include: Improvisation • Adjudication Casting • Production Boot-Camp Cost is $200 per group. Maximum of 30 students per group to allow for best interaction and experience. Participation will be limited to first come, first served basis to 6 drama groups. The deadline for registration will be Feb. 7, 2015.
AFTER SCHOOL ARTS ACADEMY Several programs are offered both on location at Proctors and satellite locations throughout the community. If your school is interested in hosting an after school program in the performing arts, please contact us. ACTING OUT: Students will become more spontaneous, creative, playful, and imaginative, all while developing valuable theater and interpersonal skills. CREATIVE FILM MAKING: Join us in this exciting opportunity to learn all aspects of movie production with other young filmmakers. Learn to script, shoot, and act and edit movies as you create your own short film from script to screen. AFRICAN DRUMMING: Build skills like sharing, responsibility, and teamwork through jamming together. Students will learn rhythms from West Africa and learn about ethnic groups, history and cultural context of the music.

MEDIA PROGRAMS Proctors offers several signature media programs annually: MediaWorks, After School Creative Film Making, MasterMinds, Media Arts Festival and the Training Institute at Open Stage Media. Each segment addresses issues critical to different generations of the community and equips members with the tools and knowledge necessary for effective communication. MediaWorks – An alternative approach to Common Core! Proctors is working with regional high schools to integrate media arts into English Language Arts curriculum. This project based learning model combines film and media with English curriculum to develop and implement new learning pathways. The result? MediaWorks students average 6 grade points higher than non-MediaWorks students. Based on core standards to increase student engagement, attendance and success, this unique program offers an alternative approach to traditional teaching and learning. After School Creative Film Making (see previous page for details) MasterMinds is a collaborative program offered by Capital Region BOCES, produced at Proctors, connecting producers, filmmakers, students, teachers, and schools. Together artists create a season of 30-minute shows. This fast-paced academic quiz competition features 26 schools from around the region, pitting them against one another to see which will win the title of MasterMind. Internship opportunities also available. Media Arts Festival Wednesday June 3, 2015 (see previous page for details) Training Institute at Open Stage Media This 90-minute workshop, open to youth and adults, will cover the basics of studio production and what you need to know to produce television programming using OSM equipment. CAST – volunteers wanted! As a CAST student, you’ll be the first to greet our patrons as they arrive with their tickets for a show. You’ll not only get to see some great shows, but you’ll become a part of an amazing group of volunteers who share a vision and a passion for the performing arts! Don’t forget about Honor Society or Advanced Placement needs. Open to high school or college students 14–19 years of age.

Souvenir By Stephen Temperley March 11, 2015 • 10:30am At the turn of the last century, Florence Foster BY STEPHEN TEMPERLEY Jenkins was a New York phenomenon where she rose to fame for her annual sold-out recitals at the Ritz Carlton and Carnegie Hall. Crowds went wild when Mrs. Jenkins tackled the most difficult arias in opera, festooned in fabulous costumes. The only trouble was Mrs. Jenkins could not sing. Still, Florence, a YouTube sensation far ahead of her time, could not be deterred from her dedication to music and voice lessons with her accomplished and compassionate accompanist, Cosme McMoon.
