OUT OF THIS WORLD A CAPPELLA Ever play the game where everything you say has to be made up of song lyrics? We surround ourselves with music, we know plenty of the words, but carrying it on for an entire evening requires real experts. Meet Voca People. They don’t even use instruments. They’ve crash-landed on Earth, you see, these white-suited beings from “Beyond the Sun.” “I Get Around,” they say, but they won’t be “In the Mood” to “Hit the Road, Jack” until they ask you to “Take a Chance on Me” and help them vocalize. They’re a cast of six
singers and two beatbox artists who hope you’ll help turn their dilemma “Tutti Frutti.” Who are these singing aliens? Meet Soprana, Alta, Mezzo, Tenoro, Bari-Tone, and Tubas. And their fellow-travelers BeatOn and Scratcher. Their spaceship is powered by music, which they draw from audience members. But you don’t have to sing a note if they call on you – they draw the songs directly out of your head and render note-perfect versions entirely with their voices. If you loved the Yellow Jackets at
Proctors, you know what you’re in for. If you’re a fan of anybody’s close-harmony singing, this is a show for you. Part a cappella singing, part New Vaudeville, it’s a high-energy 90 minutes of music and comedy that picks up where Blue Man Group leaves off and throws in a bunch of Rockapella.
enjoys a cultural snapshot with a live-performance mix tape you’ll hear nowhere else. Categories no longer exist, so that Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D Minor can sound alongside “Who Let the Dogs Out?” and vintage Irving Berlin (“Puttin’ on the Ritz”) nestles with Britney Spears (“Hit Me Baby One More Time.”)
Created in Israel, Voca People has traveled around the world, giving each country they visit a taste of its own musical history. The alien-visitor framework keeps the show flexible, and each audience
Aliens and their spaceships, crazy characters and audience participation combine for great fun on a marathon montage of a cappella mastery. Join them on their journey. It’s a “Celebration” you won’t soon forget.
IF THE WORLD WERE ENDING, HOW WOULD YOU LEAVE YOUR MARK? This is the poetic premise of TRACES, a show where life literally hangs in the balance. Seven international performers with unmatched dance, acrobatic and musical skills entertain for 90 minutes without pause. This evening of seemingly impossible movement features the talents of six men and one woman who explore the spectrum of human emotion through art, dance, circus-inspired acrobatics and aerial feats so daring and incredible that your heart will simultaneously drop into your stomach and lurch into your throat. Leaping between poles thirty feet in the air before plummeting toward the ground face-first and then jumping through impossibly small hoops, this group of entertainers will take you on an emotional journey; from fear of the unknown to exhilaration and joy, the romance and lively physicality of TRACES will leave you spellbound. TRACES is a limitless, awe-inspiring look at what the human mind, body and soul can do. The creative team behind TRACES is Les 7 Doigts de la Main, or “the seven fingers of the hand”—a twist on the French idiom (“the five fingers of the hand”) used to describe distinct parts of a unit that coordinate to achieve something magical. Founded in 2002, these “7 Fingers” exude a beautiful dexterity that is far beyond the scope of your typical circus. The rare and mind-boggling talents of each performer come together into a sensual, synchronized show with graceful danger and urban power. Dubbed “the sexiest circus in town” by Daily News, TRACES delivers a high-energy evening of epic entertainment. Millions across America were on the edge of their seats when they tuned in to see TRACES as special guest on America’s Got Talent in 2011 and 2012. Their highly-advanced skill level and acrobatic artistry led to rave reviews and a groundbreaking stunt-filled show in New York City’s Urban Square Theatre that became one of TIME Magazine’s “Top Ten of the Year” in 2011. TRACES has won international acclaim, most recently from William and Kate of Britain’s Royal Court, and this year the show is bringing its not-to-be-missed electric energy on tour across North America. If the world were ending, you can bet TRACES would be there celebrating the boundless physical power of the human spirit.
